Why Nanami Bet Everything On Yuji

Фильм және анимация

Nanami Kento is the kindest sorcerer in JJK. As the Hidden Inventory Arc of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 is wrapping up and we're headed into the Shibuya Incident, I thought it'd be a great time to talk about the goat.

I find it poetic that Nanami said that adulthood is an accumulation of small disappointments. And in the end, Nanami's legacy is an accumulation of all the small goods he's done for others through being a Jujutsu Sorceror.

What I adore about him is how rare it is for a mentor in a shonen to ACTUALLY mentor. He says very early on that he's there to protect yuji, that he's the adult and his job is to keep the kid safe but also knows when to leave him enough room to train and learn. Even more so is how he thinks maturing comes from small tragedies and so the entire time we see him, he tries to save yuji from real tragedies. Even during his last moments, he tries to make his death the least painful possible and to not make it a greater tragedy than it already is by accidentally cursing him or putting even more guilt on his shoulders. He really contrasted with every jjk character.

It also helps that Nanami is never forgotten by Yuji as the Story goes. Yuji and Nanami are very similar in many ways and one of these ways are acknowledged by the narrative it self by grouping these two together and Even after his death Chapters away,Yuji still remembers the sentiment of his final words “You got it from here” It’s quite nice seeing an Mentor and Desciple relationship that isn’y just overwritten especially since Nanami dies so early on

Not at all. He is too rigid and close minded it'd just be another Asian family plus, like them, he even underestimates Yuji says things like "don't compare yourself to gojo, I couldn't stand a chance so you wouldn't either" ya know the asian stuff. While gojo is open minded, flexible, playful, goofy, yet capable of being serious, always believes in you, deeply cares about you and wants you to go for the moon. He may not be a traditional principled man but he values people who are so match him with someone like uraume and its perfect. Plus the added 24/7 entertainment for Yuji.

in retrospect, yu haibara's death has proven quite important. his death directly asks the audience to make a decision on their worldview of the JJK world. a young, bright-eyed sorcerer was killed in a difficult fight on a mission that was meant to be easy pickings, and only the two people in the morgue with him seem to care. how does this make you feel? who do you blame? the answers to these questions say everything about your relationship to the series. some people blame the sorcerer establishment and bureaucracy, some blame evil and cursed spirits, some blame the individuals for failing, some blame the non-sorcerers, some just want all the pain to stop. you learn something about everyone based on how they react to his death. i am confident because his death questioned nanami and geto so fervently. absolutely the most pivotal moment of their lives.

when i was binge watching the show his death felt fated and i realized my perspective on this universe is very pessimistic. my relationship with this story has been that i find it easier to believe that missing characters are dead and things might not work out. it just feels natural to gege akutami's tone. i share yuji's vision of a peaceful future, but i don't have his confidence.

Nanami's presence as a mentor is honestly on the same level of importance as Gojo, at least for Yuji. Whereas Gojo taught Yuji the strengths of being a sorcerer, it was Nanami who ultimately taught Yuji what it was to be a human being a sorcerer.

It hit hard once he died. As much as I wish he had lived past Shibuya to add to the story just a little bit more, his death did have a big impact, and was very sudden and memorable.

A selfless man that wanted to BE selfish because in his final moments he regretted not having a peaceful life with the books he never read. But in the end he even looked out for Yuji, a child that had to be burdened of being sukunas vessel because he wanted to save a strangers life

I have this theory, that Nanami didn't have any domain expansion because he didn't have self centred motive in being a jujutsu sorcerer, he was completely fuelled by the duty he had and that too in a lesser immoral way he could achieve that. But we see he can pull out back to back black flashes when required hinting that he might have been strong enough to have a domain expansion but he didn't have big enough of a reason to. In an interview or most probably in a headcanon we also come to know that Nanami wasn't exactly the kind of person who did not think of starting a family. He did think of that but only when he could leave the life of jujutsu sorcerer completely, which makes me think maybe if he had a family, maybe he would have big enough of a self centred reason to be a stronger jujutsu sorcerer to be able to protect his family and hence we might have gotten Nanami promoted from a 1st grade to the special grade.

Nice video. To be honest I feel Nanami's true last words to Yuji is ''Protect yourself, stay a child a little longer''. That would be a huge curse on Yuji because he and we know Yuji WANTS to save people and can't just sit by, similarly to nanami. Nanami wanted the normal life, he wanted to go to Malaysia and even left the school/life as a sorcerer. He saw how he and gojo, geto and everyone grew up fast due to the world. But he came back because of the need to save others. It's a curse to try and tell Yuji that because he knows Yuji wouldn't be able to do it. He wants Yuji to survive. Someway down the line he's going to be executed due to holding Sukuna, something Nanami also knew.

Just found your channel. I hope you do more poignant breakdowns like this! I appreciate how you delve into Nanami's journey, exploring his disenchantment with both sorcery and corporate life, and his subsequent return to his true purpose. Nanami has become my favorite character, perhaps because so many can relate to his path. Personally, I'm navigating a return to my programming career after burnout, so his story resonates deeply! His themes resonate widely because he's an ordinary person with a self-imposed commitment, drive, and honor. Many can connect with his journey of rediscovering purpose and resilience. Upon rewatching, I didn't initially grasp the significance of his 'no overtime' vow. Nanami's dedication to himself is profound; he may not be Gojou, but his impact on the world is meaningful. His strength in the face of adversity emphasizes the importance of sustainable self-care, a commitment not just to himself but also to those he protects.

I don’t suffer with these parallels in real life but I got some sense of warmth or clarity understanding that. Just because your job isn’t seen as important by others doesn’t take away the value of it. It’s sad that society is so fucked to the point I learned this lesson and many others like it from people who never existed in the same reality as me. No one in my 21 years of living has every told me “The job you do or the things you do are important regardless if someone else thinks it is.” The Amount of times I needed to hear this before Nanami said it is insane.

I like the comparisons between Geto and Nanami. Two people faced the abyss, but one of them went back to help others.

Just finished catching up and damn, Nanami was one of my favorites since the start. Bro was thinking about yuji while he was in such a broken and dreadful state. He knew the world could be rotten but regardless you have to move forward, hopefully towards something better.

So many stoic characters are also bereft of emotional intelligence and compassion. And those two things are what define Nanami as a character.
