I think the mask must've triggered the b235 from a long time ago when Melvin was memory erased by Project Zorgo cuz it makes sense since Daniel and Regina went through the same thing too but I guess it ONLY happens to some PZ members

There was a little Piece of paper in the coffin that said “congratulation's you found the diamond!” Those pictures are Melvin when he was younger. Project Zorgo probably knew Melvin was going to be the commander a project Zorgo eventually.
