That's not the reason, after knowing what Tanjiro capabilities despite having some similarities with Yoriichi, he knew Tanjiro isn't as strong as Yoriichi, making him think Tanjiro is also harmless, now Muzan didn't expect that there's more fatal drugs that he absorbed in Tamayo's hand which weakened him by a hundred times yet he literally soloed the whole corps to half dead including all the hashiras, they've only got successful because Tamayo drug works well as time passes Muzan experiencing strength problems which he even stayed he can barely move his hands but still destroying buildings, I'm pretty sure he know he can kill all the slayers but didn't expect too much downgrade from Tamayo.

Also Tamayo said she created a drug that turns demons to human at that moment he lost even if he killed all slayers if nezuko became human he cannot be immortal.
