    @@ORileysAutos can you explain why this would happen please? I got the swirl flaps and egr deleted and mapped off on a saab over a year ago, but figured I didn't need to worry about the dpf. no problems yet. My understanding was that egr was to reduce nox emissions... diesels are high compression lean burning so produce more nox, and I thought egr was to reduce oxygen and combustion temp in certain situations, at the expense of reducing the efficiency of the burn and producing more soot, thus requiring a dpf. so i figured the egr map off would reduce soot?

    @bigjml

    @@garybrown5500 No, it isn’t These parts that are failing are all FoMoCo If you actually owned a JLR vehicle with this engine you would know that. The engine differences do apply to the engines fitted to Land Rovers and Range Rovers as they have some internal differences because of usage. The crank failures are due to production errors at Ford The bottom end bearing failures are usually caused by extended oil changes and using 5w30 oil doesn’t help. I did over 200k in my Jaguar XJL fitted with this engine, there are some differences as mine was Euro5. A lot of people with zero knowledge spout “facts” about JLR all the time Now if we talked about the Ingenium diesels that is all on JLR. But all manufacturers have such issues. Mercedes and BMW both had several years of camchain failure in their small diesels and in fact Mercedes still does with their 2.0 diesel But people love to slag off JLR and ignore the fact that these issues affect all manufacturers, including their darling German Brands Any issues on my Jag were easily fixed as they were common issues, the inlet manifold was changed under goodwill when my car had nearly 170k and was 6 month outside warranty. I can’t say the same for BMW with my current 2 yr old 745Le, it’s all about deflection till the Warranty is out. Same goes for my S Class, Mercedes we’re a nightmare to deal with And my daughters 2 yr old Audi? Went in for a common issue with the ignition barrel and they said they couldn’t replicate the fault but told her she need brakes all round and two front tyres….on a car with 20k miles…. But you carry on slagging of JLR from your internet informed perspective.

    @@1970sthrowback I ran 5w40 C3 in my XJL and it had no modifications, EGR and DPF were intact. Its a shame people butchered them because a Mechanic was unable to figure out the issue that was causing the DPF issues. If you tamper with the DPF the car is no longer Compliant with Construction and Use Regulations. Something that even a private seller must declare when selling or they can be sued. Ad the vehicle is no longer legal to be used on the road. Blagging an MOT is irrelevant. A vehicle found to be Non Compliant with C&U Regs by your Insurance Company will likely have the Insurance Voided.
