Hi, All of Jesus' acts are prophetic and show how He works in our lives. Jesus spat on the soil and made mud. What comes from the mouth of Jesus, the words of eternal life, these touch our lives. We were dry, without eternal life and without purpose. When the mud was placed in the eyes, this reveals God's calling to us to His salvation through His plan of salvation, which is revealed in Jesus. I hope I didn't imply I knew for certain! It is a commentary with hopefully logical reasoning.

The answer to why Jesus used mud to heal this man begins in the previous chapter, chapter 8; 58,59. Jesus declared himself to be God and immediately he has to flee in order to avoid being stoned. Jesus is love and yes, he loved even the priests who hated Him and wanted to kill Him. In order to give them am opportunity to think things thru, he used mud to perform this miracle. To the Scribes and Pharisee who were knowledgeable in the writings of Moses this act of using mud should have been a no-brainer. When was the other time in scripture when God knelt down and made mud to perform a miracle? In Genesis when he created Adam. Jesus had just proclaimed Himself to be God, and he gave them a proof of His divinity. God bless.
