low income range high cost of living real estate is ridiculous, rentals are even more ridiculous. meth is epidemic. police are overwhelmed and underfunded. judiciary is too lenient on crime. DWI is rampant, almost winked at by the judiciary. impossible for a single wage family to survive for long. industrial jobs have disappeared, service jobs fill the employment options. let me know if you want to discover the low points of zootown

There are definitely downsides to any place, and many of the issues you mentioned are unfortunately issues across the nation.

Montana has more downsides than upsides. To start, it is ridiculously cold. This coming weekend it will be in the subzero temperature range. The people are unfriendly, the meth is rampant, and crime is at an all-time high. I can't understand why anyone would want to live there, there are a lot of better options for someone looking to relocate. Montana is a cesspit. Many people are moving from Montana to better locations across the country. You would avoid Montana if you're smart.

I have no qualms about people who diss on Missoula. Personally, I have lived here since 2006 and love it. Better to have the naysayers bugger off than have them yarp about how they don't like it.

@@matildagreene1744 You ignore them; its actually not that difficult. I lived in New Zealand in Wellington from Feb. 1978 then came back home Sept. 2006; certain parts of the city were lousy with methylated spirits drinkers so you get good at dodging them; the local cops followed them around.

Of all the cities in Montana, Missoula is the really weird one. I have a love/hate relationship with place and am thinking about relocating to Albuquerque. I've enjoyed my time here but the low sunlight levels really get to me at times. It's a place with both awesome qualities and horrible qualities. Probably one of the most relaxed places on earth if I'm being honest...but it has very limited resources if you are ambitious. And I have no idea how anyone here actually affords a house in the hills. It's loveable and quirky but at the same time...there's that dark creepy energy creeping coming from the mountains, one of the most ominous and low sunlight wilderness areas in the lower 48...sorry but it creeps me out sometimes, it's the hard-core middle of nowhere wilderness vibe out here. But the outdoor recreation is enough to keep you addicted and ignoring the weird 'the Shining' vibes. Compared to other cities in Montana, It's just very odd. I'd recommend Billings for the newbies, especially if you get cranky without sunlight...cost of living is way lower there as well.

Yeah...in Billings, places that were priced around 200 thousand are now going for 400 thousand. Decent rental for under 2,000 ? Good luck.

Taxes are outages. A lot of other nice places where they won't suck you dry with high taxes

The taxes can definitely be tough. The lack of sales tax is nice, but also means that some other taxes are higher. It's something to consider for sure! -Hannah

How’s the job market there that’s my main concern

The job market in Missoula is healthy, but really depends on what a person does for work. Huge need for hospitality and food service. Many people moving in and working remotely from home. The catch is finding work that pays well enough to offset the high cost of living.

The job market is crap, unless you want to work in the service industry. Missoula is the sort of town where people with master's degrees are waiting tables.

The reality of the Water situation in a Semi Arid Climate seems to escape Real Estate guys? Missoula may have some of the greatest Musicians that I have seen since 1969 in the Bay Area, but the water situation is getting closer to critical levels as the Climate Migration has made the Bitterroot area into a Mini LA. The ability to buy a home in the area has become a more expensive proposition every year, but the abundant number of homes, now seems to challenge the ability of Cities like Stevensville to provide water for residents. The area is a one time rural farming region that raised a lot of Alfalfa and Apples. Now it appears to be a Bright Suburban Mr and Mrs Clean Machine city. Tourists are welcome to visit, but the bumper stickers say that Montana is Full......

Yes water is a tough one, and an issue that is affecting more than just MT. We have family in Arizona and the water situation isn't great there either. It's something that is definitely worth researching before making a move! -Hannah

@@LIVINGINHELENA We have noticed a large number of people moving from California and Arizona as their Water supplies face challenges. Real Estate seems to be a bit of a slow mover as the Interest Rates climb and the Prices appear to fall. We do live in Interesting Times.....

@@LIVINGINHELENA Lived in AZ for a few years, 40 years ago. They keep allowing golf courses, which are huge water users! Should’ve been stopped back then. Currently in Southwest CO. Love Western Montana, but they get 120 fewer sunny days than we do here. As long as we could get out and go to AZ for a few months in the winter, I’d love to move up to St. Regis or thereabouts on the Clark Fork river.

And when Yellowstone super volcano erupts you will have front row seats.

It is true that some people (especially those used to warm climates) can find winters a bit tough until they adjust, but there are those like us that LOVE winter in Montana, especially for the unique opportunities its weather provides such as snowmobiling, skiing (cross-country and downhill), snowshoeing, visits to local hot springs, etc!!!

High crime, lots of rabid homeless, lots of wokeness.

All you are doing is making real estate go up even more...🧐🙃

Too many libs in the zoo.
