To real estate investors and real estate investing enthusiasts, Brandon Turner is a household name. Not only has he written one of the most successful real estate investing books ever published (“The Book on Rental Property Investing”), but he also pioneered the real estate podcasting, social media, and blogging space. Funny to think that only a decade or so ago, this massively successful capital raiser, business founder, and CEO was painting rental properties, just trying to quit his soul-sucking job.

I needed this episode. I've been watching Bigger Pockets since 2016 and I got started in real estate investing in the do-it-yourself phase because in the beginning you don't have much money but you have time. I would say now with 37 multifamily units in the Phoenix Metro I am in between the do-it-yourself and project manager phase. I would love to get to the CEO or architect level and build a real business and a machine and have great employees like what Brandon has done with Open Door capital. I need to work on my mindset because I have some limiting beliefs I feel that are holding me back. And it's just too darn hard sometimes to let go & give up control & delegate

Speaking of old content, I think it would be cool for you to go back and listen to podcasts from years ago and explain how times have changed. Explore what was good advice then vs today. Clarify the principles that have remained constant.

It’s dope that you guys are so thoughtful and honest. Just as an example, I shut down when I hear the term Personal Brand. Now when thinking about it, the first time I heard those words they came from someone that is business minded but he’s not as thoughtful and inviting as all of you present.

Great episode. I would challenge what David said about confidence around the 31:00 mark. Some people are confident and are personable, but just don't care about putting content out on social media. Personally, I don't like being the center of attention, so....

@@chicagohavoc zero. Ive got a team doing the work right now. Could change in the future, but when I was starting out I did 5 to 10 per day before bed, IN the zip codes where I wanted to invest. Today i have a small but profitable portfolio

I believe it's a little disingenuous to suggest that because someone isn't comfortable with everything you are then they aren't confident with their knowledge. There are people who don't like to be on camera. Some don't like how they sound. Some don't like how they look. Don't demean people because they aren't like you.

nvested $100k with Open Door Capital in 2023 the Texas Three Pack. The first year return was $0 because apparently with real estate syndications it takes a year to settle things out before they get any dividends out? Then in May of 2024 got my first distributions I got $290. So basically I got 2.9% return and lost a whole year’s worth of interest. I could have put money in my Fidelity High Yield Savings at 5.15% gotten $5100 in the first year and a $135 extra a month. My money is now tied up for 5-10 yrs plus. At this point I’ll be lucky to even get back my original investment. Needless to say this was a Big Giant mistake. Expensive lesson to learn that we should never trust anyone on the internet marketing you something, it is never in your best interest. None the less I no longer follow Brandon or Bigger Pockets, or any “educational resource” it’s all becoming a vail for marketing.
