I've had money and I've been broke. Money is just a tool that makes reaching your destination easier. Money doesn't deliver you happiness. It can keep you from being unhappy, if you use it well. Your happiness comes from within, not from external forces. If you are not happy with yourself, you won't be happy with someone else. Happiness is a journey to your higher self, not a ring you capture.

This isnt true. I'm a pretty successful business owner with a high paying career. I've also struggled with depression for over 10 years. As my career became successful, it definitely did not eliminate 90% of my stress in life. I still struggle with depression almost every day. I work long hours, work weekends on a regular basis, and have sacrificed a lot of my social life while working towards my career goals. To make money, you typically have to work long hours in any job.

@@EstellaLynnand if you lose a job what happened? That’s why we must find a timeless noble purpose in which neither you yourself and nor your family members are beneficiary. This will make you happy all the time and you won’t be depressed. Unfortunately, most of us become so much obsessed with our own inflated ideas of our own needs, desires, longing and ambition to achieve , wealth, power, fame and status that we never use our conceptual quality to search for our real purpose. By definition, desires have no end. We can neither live without desires and nor we can be ever satisfied with desires. When our desires are not fulfilled then the gap between our desires and fulfillment causes frustration & stress . This gap is the root cause that causes our soul to be tired and we get depressed. Convert your desires into a noble timeless purpose.

Everything I see from people who minimize, and downsize is that they are happier than people chasing bigger, bigger, and more, more. You will get criticized for being lazy, and unmotivated. That you lack urgency. Not sure why that's a good thing, but it's something I need to get away from, so I moved to a state where things were cheaper, made some good decisions and some not so good ones, but the best thing I've done for myself is downsize, and live a simpler life. At 83, I'm doing ok. Eating plant based, living that simple life, and feeling good.

When i was preg and had v little i noticed the trees and plants around me started producing fruits berries and greens.. seemingly when i would need them. Ive learned how uncanny it is that compared to how much we think we need financially.. humans themselves seem to be able to exist just fine on what nature provides. Maybe its a good exercise to sometimes tune into that. And funny how our bodies and minds are made to exist with nature. And that it sort of just gives us what we need. Pretty miraculous, awesome, and makes u question a whole lot about this other world we live.

True happiness cannot be bought and purchased, that's true. That being said it can buy comfort, contentment and pleasure which can lead to happiness. I damn sure know, growing up poor, my parents seemed to smile more when they were able to pay rent, keep the lights on and put a decent meal on the table for their 4 chikdren. I could care less what studies show, what psychiatrists say, psychology and stats say when it comes to life. I think that money can lead to happiness, and love can be purchased by the hour. Ultimately it's up to the individual, not outsiders looking in, on where their happy comes from. If I had the wealth to make the people in my life happy, bring comfort to those suffering from abject poverty, put one kid per state through college that didn't have a chance otherwise that had the potential to be great, to be told that money can't buy happiness is erroneous and downright false, so begging your pardon, I will respectfully agree to disagree.

Here's what you'll find: people with money usually assert it doesn't buy happiness, and people without any money assert it does. The truth is, the people with money have better perspective because once you have money and realize it isn't actually the answer, you are able to see it more for what it really is. You see it much clearer. Poor people idealize money too much. Just like we tend to idealize many things in life we don't have more then they deserve to be idealized.

This is so true. We often say if I only had X or Y or Z then everything would be better. Then we get Y and Z and realize not much has changed. Money is really just a tool to an end. Yes it does buy happines because it keeps you from certain things. But just like the video said, once you reach a certain lifestyle money won't really amount to much.

What a wonderful speaker! Yesterday I took a 5$ bus along a scenic PCH all the way from Huntington Beach to San Clemente. I was thinking had I had a billion dollars, instead I would just drop 20 mil, buy a private jet and just go to any destination missing the journey. For five dollars, I had a child-like Disney land like trip. Sometimes constraint and lack of options forces one to be creative and be happy. When I had allowances and saved a precious dollar at the end, I saw that I could buy infinite things from 99 cents store. THATS'S the freedom that somehow lack of money DOES buy. Whereas, modern society who are fattened with gluttony thinks you need to stuff more and more and more to be happy. Remember, contentment cannot be bought!

Here’s the flaw in what he’s saying. The more money you have, the more you have to invest, the people with lots of money are the ones shaping the world, whilst selling us the illusion of choice and democracy. If the right people had most of the money, then people wouldn’t mind entrusting them in the future, but that’s not the case, most are greedy, selfish, lack compassion, lack empathy, have oversized egos, thinks they’re above another human, has dire materialistic obsessions, lives above the law, invests in things that do more harm than good….list goes on. Money buys happiness, when the decent people in this world have control of it!

The problem is that true, sustainable change takes both time (a lot of it), and the willingness of people who have lots of $$$$ to participate. Sadly, many who grew up with plenty of money don't want the status quo to change. They DON'T SEE. How could they? They will never see, unless they go out among the poor to understand how they live, and the challenges they face everyday just to survive. When was the last time you saw a multimillionaire hanging out with working class families? Society teaches children that without money and status, they are not worthy, that they are nothing. Both rich and poor alike absorb this - and they believe it! It's become ingrained into so many cultures.

Well... A difficult topic, if you have money you can buy a house, food, car, have more opportunities to go to private schools, get better education, quality health services, travel around the world, so you don't have to worry about money, and what are you gonna eat tomorrow, or next week, how are you gonna make it 'till the end of the month, so I guess that money can give you like a kind of happiness, freedom, tranquility, so this topic can be a little tricky, I mean depends on who do you ask, a poor man or a welthy man, by poor man or poor people I don't necessarily mean homeless, but people that wake up every single day and go to work, and make their best to get enough to meet their basic needs, and that's all they get just enough, not more than that. I'm not saying that money can buy or give you happiness, but... it's kind of tricky. That's my pov.

"Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness". But what is happiness? A sense of well-being? Or just your lifestyle enabling your system to produce the right hormones? This is a question that humanity has been grappling with for millennia. The speaker has questioned whether endless pursuit of material acquisitions can lead to "happiness". Yet these are an index of success in most societies. Of course there have been those through the ages and across the world who rebelled against this. A contrarian view is that the drive for human progress predicated on people being unhappy with what they have and wanting ' more and better'? And is unhappiness and discontent the sacrifice needed for 'progress'? The theme touched upon in this interesting presentation can be the subject of multiple TED talks! Good health, mental fulfilment, emotional well-being, spiritual harmony - are these a recipe toward leading a 'happy' life? Congratulations to the speaker for highlighting a very relevant issue - "keeping up with the Jones'es". And advising that wealth be pursued only to the extent that it provides comfort and security."Man does not live on bread alone".

I think the key is in about 13min when he said - in service of. The question is what would serve "one's own fulfilment". Money is meant to give us first security. So yes a villa n yacht would be nice - if our need is family n one gets sea sick - then does that make sense. After all a villa isolates. And if youre sea sick should one chase after a yacht because someone else has? The key i see it is to work for contentment which aligns to our needs n our unique life purpose. There is no end to shiny objects. Live for your purpose. Not be a kitten chasing shiny objects

Money can provide comfort and security, but true happiness comes from within. It comes from experiences, relationships, and personal fulfillment. It's about finding joy in the little things and making meaningful connections with others. Money can't buy love, friendship, or inner peace. It can't buy memories or laughter. So while money can make life easier in some ways, it can't buy true happiness. Happiness is a state of mind and heart, not a material possession. It's about living authentically and finding contentment in the present moment. So while money may provide temporary pleasure, it can't buy lasting happiness.

The rich will have to keep working so probably wont ever reach this point either.

He's only right IF you keep chasing more more more, better better better. Where money buys happiness is having enough to pay for anything you desire, not having to put up with all the stress that comes from working. Having lots of free time to do whats most important to you.Being able to do for those you love. You can take much better care of your health when money is not an issue.I could go on and on. I love window shopping, wheather it's million dollar homes, boats,Rolls Royce or whatever because it feels good just knowing i can pay cash for whatever i see. Money DOES buy happiness, it's just not the "only" way to happiness. My little 30 mill.has brought me a lot of joy. It also depends on why your unhappy too. If you are unhappy because of financial reasons but everything else is fine, guess what your going to feel if you come into lots of money?

Long ago I came up with a theory that status or living situation doesn't make someone happy or unhappy but _change of status_ causes these emotions. Imagine people before bow and arrow was invented. They hunted deers for hours. Humans are slow but our evolutionary advantage is sweating and persevearance. Humans would chase the deer until it collapses. Then someone invented bow and arrow. Now they could kill it from a distance without hours of running. Imagine what a massive game changer this was back then. People back then sure loved the bow and arrow and where satisfied with how easy hunting was. But the children who grew up with bow and arrow probably still considered it tiring. I mean nowadays I'm annoyed when I have to go to supermarket for my meat because I'm lazy. Our life is much better than those of the richest people on earth 300 years ago. And do you think the richest people 300 years ago where dissatisfied? No, because they didn't know what they miss. They obviously didn't compare to us but to the poorer people 300 years ago and therefore realized how good their life was. Its always the comparison that matters, which is why social media is proven to have negative impacts on mental health. People only post the best moments on social media and when one scrolls through it, they automatically compare themselves to all the people with perfect situations in holidays, while oneself is sitting at home on the couch having to work next day... Then, if your own living situation changes, for example after a lottery win, its the strongest comparison because you compare to your previous life. Many things go easier now then before and everytime you subconsciously remember the struggle you had before and enjoy how easy it is now. Until you get used to it. Like you are used to get to the fridge instead of hunting for food. The luxury becomes standard and is not special or enjoyable anymore.
