The only counter argument people are going to use is that “you are getting older” which is why you don’t like them. Which is just not the case. Games are getting more boring, have more micro transactions, bad writing, and are releasing more broken as well as having like 80% of the original content cut from the game just to be sold as dlc.

"The only counter argument people are going to use is that “you are getting older” which is why you don’t like them. Which is just not the case." It absolutely is lol, for one when you were younger you likely didn't have many games or consoles, you made do with what you had and because of your limited experience with games as a whole you could have more fun with a game that today you might consider terrible because you had very limited reference points of what a good game is like. You also likely didn't pay a massive attention to the internet outside of KZread lets players and other entertainment based creators, and so a lot of gaming controversy's at the time likely would have flown under your radar because you weren't looking for that kind of content. "Games are getting more boring, have more micro transactions, bad writing, and are releasing more broken as well as having like 80% of the original content cut from the game just to be sold as dlc." Where do I even start with this lol, you need to chill out a bit. Games aren't more boring I have no idea what games you are playing but if whatever you are playing is boring you then I suggest you play something else. If you find that no matter what you play bores you then maybe you are just burnt out, take a break from the hobby and try something else, maybe something you haven't done in a while or you have been meaning to do but haven't had to the time to. Hell maybe even play a game from your childhood, something you've not played for a good 5-10 years see how well it holds up, reexperience some of your fondest memories. The microtransactions point is pretty fair, I blame this more so on companies being able to implement such monetization schemes far more easily now that basically every game and console has an internet connection, If the internet was as widely used in the 80's as it is now I have no doubt gaming companies would have inserted microtransactions into their games in some way, shape or form much sooner than they ended up doing. I have no clue where you got the idea that games have been getting worse in terms of writing, especially since Baldur's Gate 3 released this year and its one of the best written games ever made, and before you say "well x game and y game are poorly written" bad writing has existed since we first learned how to put pen to paper, in every medium not just games, are all movies now terrible because some films released in the last few years were poorly written? Games releasing more broken is a very valid complaint and definitely an ever increasing issue with newer games, I blame the reliance on upscalers like FSR and DLSS for poor optimization but also on the strict deadlines the devs have forced upon them that force them to rush and rely on such technologies. Obviously that 80% figure is completely hyperbolic so I'll ignore it and say that I can't think of any game that has been found to have purposely cut content from the main game to sell later, I've heard of some games using cut content for DLC but that's a bit different, if anything I think most game devs are struggling enough as it is to actually release their games on time and in a mostly functioning state that DLC is probably the last thing their thinking of when making a game. I'm sure some games have done it I just don't think its a particularly worthy concern to have considering the fact I can't think of many games that have done this in recent years.

Oni has mastered the art of sounding (rightfully) pissed off but still maintaining a sense of comedy and light-hearted joking through-out the vid. The greatest tragedy of all is the hard truth that these companies only get away with these shady business practices because there are too many sheep out there that eat it up like candy. As long as it works for them, they’re going to continue to do it. The fastest way to make it stop is to stop supporting them. Stop buying their battles passes, stop buying their outfits that have absolutely no impact on your ability to play the game. It’s really sad to see techland dipping their feet into this growing cesspool and even more disturbing to hear that it was their own idea and not Tencent forcing their hand.

You can tell the people who made Dying Light 2 are not the same that made Dying Light. The passion and sense for details are in another level. before 2013, the industry standard was private studios would leverage publically traded publishers (like ea and activision) for marketing only. this seperation of powers allowed studios to retain quality/creative control without being beholden to fudiciary duty laws that mandated a lawful obligation to shareholder interests in maximum profit return. it wasnt until alot of these studios started being bought out by these publishers that you saw the predatory monetization begin. why? because now the product itself must be tailored to the best interest of the shareholder, instead just how its marketed and distributed.

To me it's not only the live service crap, but also every game is either a hero shooter or an action game. There is zero creativity. Even titles that were a different genre have changed their identity (i'm looking at you Valkyrie Profile). I hope that this video helps people to stand their ground against these predatory business. Unfortunately it''s also as you said: despite all of that, there are still people giving money and paying for microtransactions and battlepasses to keep encouraging this behavior. Those actually need the money to run the way they do, just find one that doesn't try to gouge you so avoid MMOs like Elder Scrolls Online. Also, thank you, Oni, for recommending that Indie studio of former Techland employees. That Boti: Byteland Overclocked game they just released is a really solid 3D Platformer. Why would companies stop using greedy tactics and shoddy work when consumers and willing to shower them in cash for it?

Underdeveloped and unloved games have been a thing since gaming was popularized, however, it's definitely never been this bad as there's always microtransactions (what ever happened to unlocking everything in a paid game?) nowadays and for some reason companies decided that it's better to lie to their community rather than refund pre-orders and/or just say they changed the plan.

I'd to see you expand your content to other subjects, Saints Row 2 was my favourite game in high school. I got the game for free on steam and luckily my potato pc was able to run it, but i had a bug that made the game speed faster than usual. Like my normal driving speed was fast af, i think there are videos about that bug on youtube. Despite the bug i finished the game many time and enjoy every moment, then SR reboot happen, i swear i've never been more pissed when i see the actual game. RIP the boss, johnny, shaundi and pierce

Player base in not innocent either. Players will cheat, exploit, spend 8hrs a day playing like theyre gonna be pro, and just being toxic in general. People are just too try hard now and game companies are turning games into casinos so you get addicted instead of having fun. Microtransactions, gamble packs or loot boxes, rewards for playing or winning, and unlcok systems (check out MW3 armory unlock system) all while manipulating game results and outcomes so you never win or lose too much. Check out FIFA, COD, Fortnite, basically everything. Casual modes dont exist anymore. Everyone is an addicted sweat.

Great video. Live service isnt a bad thing in concept, i wish i had constant content flowing for some of my favorite games like Metal Gear Solid V or Dragons Dogma. But no these companies just apply live service to multiplayer crap games,, where they forget to create a good game and just focus on profits and nickel and diming. If more companies did what No Man Sky and Dying Light 1 did I would be so happy, they supported their games for over 8+ years and in the case of NMS they are still updating that game significantly.

Modern-day gaming: "Less creative freedom, lazy development, quantity over quality, and mind-numbing predatory practices. I'm sorry the current generation could not experience what actual gaming used to be back in the early 2000s: Full-game releases, fantastic studios, immense creative freedom, and absolutely no micro-transactions. We didn't have any ridiculous seasonal passes, battle passes, no DLC, or overhyped video games. And yes, I'm glad devs and gamers are becoming increasingly aware to such a micromanaged vicious cycle of the current state of the gaming industry.

I like Starfield, is it a flawless game? No, but it's fun and it's a complete and finished game with more content to be added, plus there's no live service bull crap, or monetization (yet, Creation Club), but I think they don't tell people exactly what Creation Club is correctly, so mass confusion, but it they implement Creation Club good into Starfield, then I think it will be ok, since its individual creators making these creations then sending them to Bethesda and then they send a ratio of money back to the creator, it's like paid mods, just Bethesda sucks at implementing it in correctly. It's a cool concept, giving people ways of getting paid for their work.

Another good example of online only games being a bad idea is the launch of pay day 3, I was so excited to play it and was there in launch. only to see I Had to make an account on a broken and laggy website that didn’t work, until I re-installed the game just to see that the game servers weren’t even working and it took like 2 days to fix. Why can’t triple a studios make good games anymore? Indie companies are literally carrying the gaming scene right now. like end night with sons of the forest hopefully one day these companies realise that what they are doing is not worth the destruction of their reputation.

You forget that RE4 Remake had the awful microtransactions where people would pay to bypass upgrades for their weapons (exclusive upgrade ticket). Or what about the preorder bonus where you get a map that shows where some valuables are to help, making it so players who don't preorder or buy these DLCs have to work harder. As great as that game is, it's still a victim of modern day monetisation schemes.

Facts. In my friend group I'm looking at all these gaming trends in the new Mortal Kombat. Everyone I know tells me I'm just to analytical and have too high of standards. Since when has it been too high of a standard to expect to simply buy your product, then use it without being harassed to spend more on it? Then I get looked at like a madman for the comparison. Imagine spending 20$ at a movie theater for act 1 and 2 of a film. Just to be told act 3 will be available in two months for another 10$. It's the same business philospahy applied to another entertaintment product.

I’ve been telling people about this but they just never listen. I was in the dying light 2 discord, sons of the forest discord, telling people that it isn’t a good sign for the game if the devs keep delaying it over and over. That tells me they aren’t confident in how they want to release their game, and it’s a terrible fkin sign, because if they were cautious about releasing it on a previous date, then how about this one. And don’t even get me started on the unfinished buggy products on release, when I’m buying a product, I don’t want half the product, or 75% of it, I want the FULL product that I paid in FULL. The crazier part of it all is how people will defend these companies under and circumstances when they are the ones stealing our money. If the games cost more money to produce, shouldn’t that mean that the game should be even better on release cause of how much money went into it??

When I was 15, it was the greatest thing ever. Like all things, as we get older things are just not as exciting. I loved the beach as a kid, now it’s whatever. Same thing with movies. I could’ve bought a PC with that money but that’s what I get for having hope for the future catalogs of both Xbox and PlayStation. Think I might sell both and get a PC.
