Why MICHAEL PRATT is the QB STEAL of the Draft (Who Is This Guy?)

Спорт

Every year there is one QB who's draft stock falls apart and this year it is Michael Pratt. After falling to the 7th round, he could be the QB steal of the draft for the Green Bay Packers. Back in time, he was just a 3 star recruit coming out of high school and went to a lower tier group of five program, but Michael Pratt became a star for Tulane, has flown up draft boards and is the hidden QB secret of the 2024 NFL draft. Today, I want to talk about who he is, his journey and his potential in the NFL, enjoy!

    I am guessing Pratt fell because NFL teams viewed him as a long-term backup, not a starter. Teams are not going to spend a high draft pick on a backup quarterback.

    Ron Wolf started that trend in the 1990s. 1994 QB camp included Brett Favre, Mark Brunell, Ty Detmer, & Kurt Warner. While some teams struggle to find one starting QB, GB had 4 in camp that year that went on to have good NFL careers. I have heard the Bears have had 36 starting quarterbacks since Brett Favre started in GB.

    Im a lifelong Packer fan, but seeing this repeated so much makes me cringe. If Caleb does even remotely well, GB is going to be fighting for 3rd in North very soon. Y'all LOL'd when I said 2 years ago the Lions were going to really good. Now they are going to be division leaders for awhile; Vikings getting JJ and Bears getting Caleb is no joke cuz both these teams are trending upward both offense/defense. Packers only made playoffs cuz Kirk got hurt last year and Vikings season tanked. Jordan Love looked OK last half of season but he definitely aint a championship winning QB despite all the glazing he's getting.

    I’m a Tulane fan and have been going to all the home games for all 17 years of my life. Pratt has been one of the most consistent and maybe the greatest qb I’ve seen in the olive and blue. He’s smart with decisions maybe a little too conservative at times but he just doesn’t have the big arm. And I think that’s what made him fall. His arm is good but also he was injured after the first game and he never really fully recovered from it throughout the season. He will have his chance in preseason tho!

  • @frenchfrey65

    I'm getting flashbacks to when the Packers had Aaron Brooks and Hasselback, both would later be traded after a year or so of development and become studs. Packers weren't doing that well under Rodgers in terms of backup QB's like Tolzien, Hundley, and a bunch of UDFA's, Flynn was the closest we had to someone who could've started somewhere else but fate dealt him a different hand. I like this coming from QB, we could be seeing a day 3 QB every other year now if means constant competition for the backup spot. The best part tho with Pratt, if he loses the backup job to Clifford, given that Pratt is a 7th round guy, nobody is going to try to snatch him up if the Packers cut him after the preseason, and thus Pratt can be on the practice squad for the year, thus not wasting a roster space. That's not even knocking him or his talent either, it's giving him time to develop. This was one of my issues when we first drafted Love, because he was a 1st rounder there was no way we were cutting him, and as a result the packers had 3 QB's during his rookie year, and Love was a scratch all year meaning he was literally wasting a roster space for someone who could've helped the Packers. Now granted, we now know Love is good, and in the end, I like this strategy by the Packers and I hope they continue it for the rest of Love's career.

    Given the adjustment to the third QB rule, he still might get a chance to suit up, even if he doesn't play. A practice squad QB can be brought up and named as an inactive player. If a team's QB#1 and QB#2 are injured during the game QB#3 can play. QB#3 doesn't count against the active player limit for game day. The third QB can be returned to the practice squad and called back for the next game without being subject to waivers. This is a very good rule as teams can dress an emergency third QB and not short change a position that may be needed more during a game. You never know what may happen during a game. I hope nothing does; but you never know.

    Respectfully, how can you make a video on Michael Pratt being the steal of the draft when Jordan Travis could have possibly won the heisman this year if not for injury, as well as could have potentially made it to the national championship and won it? That would have elevated him from being a 5th round pick to a clear cut 1st rounder, might I add that Jordan is in a perfect situation with the Jets, being able to sit behind Aaron Rodgers and Tyrod Taylor and develop his craft over the next 2-3 years, coming into a loaded lockeroom on both sides of the ball.

  • @user-vi8ug9ex8l

    @user-vi8ug9ex8l

    13 күн бұрын

    Respectfully, Jordan Travis did only fall to the 5th round. Yes, he could have done all those things but got injured no fault to him. Before the 2023 season, Pratt, although a long shot was projected to be a first rounder, got injured in the first game and had to miss probably the biggest game of his career in Ole Miss, a game that many experts have said if he'd have started could have been a different outcome. Tulane was winning with a backup who only had 2 starts midway through the 3rd, and then I guess he forgot himself and turned the ball over three times and the Wave lost by 3 scores. Pratt was really good at protecting the ball. I say all that to give context, and yes, I am a season ticket holder for the Green Wave. So all that being said Jordan Travis will sit behind a future Hall of Famer, and a career journeyman. He still got picked higher and has to comeback from a pretty devastating injury, correct? Plus do you see him being more that 3rd string, this year? Go look at Pratt's highlights, 2022 season torched UCF, beat Cincinatti at home who was riding a 37 straight win streak at home, beat a Kansas st. team on the road and looked like the third best player on the field at the Cotton Bowl v USC. Yes he did have Spears a running back in 2022 but you can downplay the consistency at QB. Also in 2021 while displaced by a hurricane in a game that was supposed to be in New Orleans but played in Norman OK. played so well that Rattler had to be benched for Caleb Williams to give the Sooners the chance to win yet Rattler gets drafted higher than Pratt and Travis I think.

    I was introduced to Michael Pratt by MVOS's relatively biased video of Tulane's 2022 season (linked here) kzread.info/dash/bejne/nJuOr6ycisKefrQ.html After watching that earlier last year, my interest was piqued when I learned that GB had picked him up in the draft this year. Considering what the film of that year and the following 2023 team accomplishments showed, he's not a top-tier quarterback YET. With that being said, the pieces are there for him to build a solid foundation and considering the overall atmosphere of GB, I believe that not only will he improve, but he'll also be able to elevate the play of those around him given enough time. The 2022 magical turnaround season wasn't a fluke because Tulane almost went back-to-back seasons as AAC Champions with the same head coach, and now Pratt's gotten a taste for what a successful franchise is (especially one that intends to maximize the capability of all its players at all positions). I'm not expecting him to set the world on fire, but I do expect the by-play between him, Love and Clifford; Clifford especially, to help him grow and grow quickly. I get the feeling that Tom Clements will be able to work and knead him over time into a competent backup. Sean Clifford already showed some promise back in last year's offseason, along with all the work he's put into practice squad antics. I think this QB trio could become a venerable force to be reckoned with, but only time will tell, and both he and Clifford need that time to grow and evolve.

    Taysom Hill sucks at QB position. Good TE/FB though.
