Why Many Brazilians Convert to Islam, Here Are the Facts
The Tatuapé region, on the eastern side of Sao Paulo, Brazil, has just built a house of worship which has just been inaugurated and is attracting attention. A large plaque saying Jesus is displayed in front of it, but it turns out this building is an Islamic Center. Reporting from Folha de S. Paulo, a preacher who is a native Brazilian, Edmar Candido da Silva (34 years old) leads this Islamic center. He was born a Christian but became a Muslim 12 years ago. In 2009, in an effort to get closer to God, Edmar discovered the faith that is part of his life today, namely Islam. It was recorded that in 2010, as many as 35 thousand Brazilians declared themselves to be followers of Islam at the Brazilian Geographical and Statistical Census Institute. In recent years, the religion has gained followers on the outskirts of Sao Paulo with no ties to the Arab community. After changing religions, a process Muslims call repentance, Edmar faced resistance from his family.

I am a seaman and have been to various ports in Brazil.I met a Muslim of Labanese descent once in Juma prayer in Santos.He visited our ship and acted as Imam for Maghrib and Isha prayers also.He was a student in the Islamic university in Medina.He was an enlightened intellectual(THEHREEKE) Muslim and planned to work for the Islamic revival after completing his education.He was fully capable also of doing it.
