As Bo-Katan Kryze and Din Djarin explore the ruins of Sundari, it became ever more apparent that maybe the Mandalorians of old had it wrong. The Way, The Code, all of the political and belief systems the Mandalorians have used up until this point, has led their society to ruin and destruction. Maybe its time for something new.

Are you forgetting that this is modern Disney. It'll be the woman that tames the alien dinosaur monster and claims the dark saber then rides the alien monster. That's the way Disney seems to work these days. I'm starting to think they're setting up for that exact scenario. Seriously, you can actually see it coming. It's obvious just from that 1 episode.

Plus the armorer wouldn't be keen in Bo-Katan as things stand so Din is a very likely middle ground for all parties involved 🤷‍♂️ all points to Din learning to use the saber, taming the mount maybe with Boba's help, in aims to unite the people as a new Mandalore since he truly follows "The Way" and would be accepted all ways around. Not blaming you for being jaded and skeptical 👍

Remember, it is Din who has always been shown riding beasts since the first episode. Din riding random monsters is part of his theme. I think Din is the only one shown to have difficulty wielding the Darksaber. And even then, he didn't have a problem briefly wielding it before he knew of its significance. I think that it's not so much that the Darksaber is rejecting Din, it's that Din is rejecting the Darksaber. He's resisting the destiny he feels it is burdening him with. He's resisting the responsibility he feels it is burdening him with. This is why he's so desperate to become accepted again by his own. They're the only ones who could really accept him now. All the other Mandalorians? They just see the Darksaber. And they see that whatever he's supposed to be doing with the Darksaber, he ain't doing it.

I think it subtlety shows why she’s lost hope and is so broken by her people not accepting her. She pushes the whole royal family birthright thing, but she has actually done whatever she has to in order to be capable of leading & fighting for her people in her view. They still rejected her for not murdering Sabine to “rightfully” have the dark saber and not murdering Din to claim it again when he was her ally. She has paid for being honorable, has probably regretted being affiliated with death watch for how it splintered their people, and now can’t see hope in bringing back what she see as their glory days on Mandalore. I like how they are showing and telling why her character arc has shifted so drastically.

I’ve been thinking for a while now that the show’s title might not actually refer to Din, but rather to Grogu. As a foundling, he will be the second Mandalorian Jedi, and will be the one to tame the Mythasaur, inherit his father’s Darksaber, and unite his people like Mandalor the first. He has had the benefit of seeing the galaxy and learning a great deal about things from a wide variety of teachers. He will make an excellent leader when he is ready, and will live long enough to usher in a new age of prosperity to his people.

  • @hkpew

    @hkpew

    Жыл бұрын

I like this. I've had some similar thoughts. But I think there are some practical problems with doing that story over the course of this series. I mean, Grogu is ~50 years old, and based on Yoda he's likely to live to be something like 900. After 50 years he still seems like a toddler in a lot of ways, and is still clearly much smaller than Yoda was. It's possible that he's farther along developmentally than he seems, or that his maturation has been delayed by the trauma he's experienced but he will be able to make up that ground quickly now that he's in a more stable situation with a father figure. But it seems probable that he still has at least close to 50 years left before he's really an adult. Somehow I doubt that this series is going to go for that long, and I doubt Dave Filoni is planning on that. So I'm pretty sure there's a different plan for this series. It might not be incompatible with Grogu eventually becoming the leader of the Mandalorians, but if that does happen I think it will be in a different show set farther into the future, and probably not until after this show ends. Though this show could end with Grogu officially becoming a Mandalorian - that seems to normally happen in late childhood/early teens from what we've seen.

Din was not pulled under, he fell. Pay attention when Bo-Katan jumps in - the stairs suddenly stop at a nearly vertical drop. When she reaches Din, he's not hurt, nothing is holding him down, he simply sank because he's covered in armor and took off his jet pack. When she's pulling him back up and sees the Mythosaur it wasn't aggressive in the least, it just watches them. Din stepped into dark water and wasn't being careful, that's all.

One of the things I took from the 2nd episode was how Grogu is observing his choice played out before him. He left the 'same-old Jedi training' to embrace his own path with the force and attachment to Din. Now before him are BoKatan and Din squabbling about the many paths, the truth, the 'theater', what are we? I thought his sort of eye roll at BoKatan's "what are you looking at" was cute, sure, but it also had to be a bit self-directed as he confronts this new path without the traditions and theater of the Jedi Masters. Maybe I'm looking for more than is there, but I think part of this season will be the reinforcement of Grogu's choice and his willingness to seek that new path with Din and others surprising them all, including himself. He's confronting fears *with* support instead of alone; using attachments to strengthen instead of being told how they weaken a Jedi. Din already knows and has shown him the value of that, perhaps that played a part in Grogu's choice. It's going to be a fascinating season!

We have to realize there is two star wars. The movie version where the characters are supposedly good or evil, and the animated version that the characters are more complex. Even Darth Maul was more complex in the animated series. When Lucas wrote it, story telling was we had good and evil. More modern story telling gives us more complex personalities. The creator of Games of thrones complain about Lord of the rings being so black and white. Besides they need to explain the change between the original series and the prequel. People don't seem to understand, the first rebel was the last separatist. We were rooting for the Republic to win in the prequel, when we knew it will turn evil. In the movie, Lucas did a poor job in relating the original with the prequel. But because of how much time passed between the two, he didn't need to. But in the animated series that took place between the two, they have to marry the two series.

There was a point I thought maybe it'd be Boba Fett seeing as he almost has a legit connection with the stuff revealed by his armor's chain code, but apparently he just wants to be a respectable crime boss, so he's basically just a step above Maul. But Yeah Grogu with his soft baby ways could tame the beast, fulfill the prophecy, and lead the 'Mandos with a new balance of all the things he's learned both Din and Bo.

But then there's the issue that the darksaber is WAYYY too big for him and would never be able to wield it, even when he's fully grown, unless it's like Kanans Saber where the blade can be adjusted.

My favorite thing about the expanded universe/legends Star Wars was that Mandalorians weren’t primarily human they were zabrak, twi’lek, humans and others. Mandalorian culture wasn’t about any one group or race it was about a united family. Yes there were many Mandalore’s and their legacies they left behind. Mandalore the Ultimate was about conquering so that his people could prosper, Mandalore the Preserver was about salvaging and rebuilding what was lost, Mandalore the first was about exploring and overcoming obstacles that we are afraid of. This is the Mandalorian culture that I have loved over the years.

To be fair, it could still be this way in canon. Most of the mandalorians we've seen with helmets removed have been from major clans like Vizla, Kryze, and Wren, so there could easily be a large variety in mandalorian races which simply haven't been demonstrated on-screen yet. Or the writers miss the memo and make them all human-ish. I feel like we probably won't actually see enough mandos to know which way that cookie will crumble, but I'd very much like to be wrong about that.

Bo talked about her own taking the creed in those waters, and talked about it as theater for the people. It was something she had to do- not something she believed in. When Din walks into the water saying the creed, they cut to Bo's face and she has a very interesting face/smile. Din is sincere. I think she realizes and appreciates that he isn't just going through the motions for others, but because he believes it for himself. Could give her a new appreciation for the creed, or for him. Also, I'm not sure that all Mandalorians were always and only taken as foundlings. That may be what the zealots like the Children of the Watch do exclusively. But there was entire Mandalorian society filling multiple planets and moons. Bo has a sister. There was a period of infighting between the Mandalorian clans and any captured foundlings would have been coming from other Mandalorian clans. So where did those babies come from? Clearly Mandalorian culture must have had families and spouses, or at least sex and children, of some kind. "Mandalorian isn't a race, it's a creed" apparently it's almost exclusively humans. Perhaps not all humans on Mandalore were Mandalorians? Perhaps the creed is just for the warrior caste? Perhaps it's just a religious type thing with a mix of orthodox and moderate believers? Perhaps it's only like a soldier's creed- applies while "enlisted" as part of the fighting corps, ie the military, but service could end, veterans could retire, hang up their helmets, and start families?

It does answer one question though, Satine was royalty but their father was still alive which suggests the title was matrilinear. Either way the main culture of Mandalore is nominally following the Lore but we've seen diplomats, shopkeepers, schoolteachers and student who dont wear armour or at least only possibly a symbolic chain. They inherit their Mandalorian identity from being born there. The children are a small cult and to be blunt, im not sure how romantic you can get while wearing a bucket on your head. Or do they turn out the lights and close their eyes? I doubt they have a high birth rate! They need to recruit. I mean, can you imagine the armourer pushing an armoured pram?

Boba Fett's appeal was not just the armor, Alan. It was the fact that he was a free-wheeling space cowboy dispensing his own brand of justice and getting paid big bucks for it by the guys who run the galaxy. While Han Solo tried to make ends meet selling space coke, Boba Fett was flying around disintegrating people for a living and getting paid the big bucks by both criminal warlords and the legitimate government authorities. He was both a made man in the Space Mafia and a government-sanctioned killer at the same time, and he made a killing out of it, both figuratively and literally. Heck, we even had a hit anime named Cowboy Bebop which was based around the premise of Boba Fett's character of being a Bounty Hunter who made ends meet hunting people down. It wasn't just the armor, but the premise of the character, which made Boba Fett an enduring legacy in the SW universe. When they made a game about Boba's old man Jango, it wasn't centered around some Mandalorian warrior culture or ritual stuff, (that stuff ended up in the Republic Commando game instead) it was about being a bounty hunter and flying around the galaxy, hunting dangerous prey, from druglords, senators, crime kingpins, Hutts, even Dark Jedi. Hence why it became known as Star Wars: Bounty Hunter. And as for the Mandalorians, they only really took off as a culture because of the KOTOR games, where the Mandalorian Neo-Crusaders were portrayed as a mix between the Spartans and the Prussians; cold, calculating foes that worshiped war and perfected killing people as a science. They were essentially a race based around the mindset of someone like Grand Moff Tarkin, respecting people based on the way they fight and risk their lives, and having no qualms about using massacres and weapons of mass destruction to achieve their goals. The Republic Commando books veered away from what made the game of the same name great, instead focusing on baby-mama drama and whining about the Jedi, which the Neo-Crusaders would've found laughable, since they respected the Jedi as warriors, but had no problems fighting or even killing them.

I just thought of something. I have heard people say someone is going to defeat and ride the Mythosaur , whether it's Mando, Bo Katan, or Baby Yoda. I think I just figured it out. The armorer isn't going to believe that Mando bathed in the waters on Mandalore, and she isn't going to consider Bo Katan a reliable witness, so she is going to make Mando take her and their Mando clan back to Mandore to witness it themselves, but when they get there, the mythosaur attacks them and they get in a big battle, but in a shocking twist, it's noone anyone expected to defeat the mythosaur. It turns out, Paz Vizsla is the one who stops it. So at this point Mando has the dark saber, and Paz Vizsla rides the mythosaur, so they both have a claim to power, and basically their only option is to fight to the death to decide, once and for all, who is rightfully Mandalore. ...or in another weird twist, what if Bo Katan is in possession of Mandalore's mask? Then there are three Mandos with a claim to the throne, and as they are about to battle it out, the armorer gets them to take a step back and consider a new option...sharing power as equals. Basically, they could call it the Council Of Mandalore amd instead of having one ruler, Mandalore would have three rulers, which cod be beneficial. Mando is more diplomatic, Laz Vizsla, could be the tough war-like leader, and basically Bo Katan would serve as a balance between the two, and the armorer, while not part of the council, could act as an advisor to them.

If Din Djarin marries Bo-Katan then the three of them can unite Mandalore as a family as they will have the royal blood, the Darksaber, and mythosaur. You know, I feel like the new mandalorians were kind of objectively the more reasonable faction of the mandalorians. Like, for how cool the warrior culture stuff is, it just isn't sustainable. I think the main flaw of the new mandalorians, aside from being a monarchy, is that they were so committed to peace to redefine themselves from the original mandalorians that they also couldn't defend themselves. A faction that splits the difference by valuing peace and tranquillity, but has the ability to fight when necessary, is really the only way I see mandalorian culture having any sort of staying power. Otherwise they're just going to go through this continuous boom-bust cycle where somebody gains power and unites the mandalorians, and then after that person dies the whole thing completely falls apart. Now that I think about it, with the influence of grogu, I'm wondering if maybe they'll take some inspiration from the Jedi and go the route of being highly skilled warriors who used violence as a last resort to preserve peace.

The new mandalorians were just as flawed, they buried their heads in the sand and tried to ignore their past and even when being invaded by criminal syndicates satine was still preaching against violence even as a form of defence, she did so while her people were getting gunned down in the street.

@Generation Tech - I would really like to see one of your great analysis of the shows dealing with all the parallels of Mandalorians with the Jewish people on Earth. There seem to be a lot, starting with the purge/holocaust, the fact that being Mandalorian is not related to place of birth or parental succession but purely due to culture and faith up to rather strict rules for the faith. There apparently was even some excerpt of the book of exodus written on that shard in episode 1 (at least this was described as an easter egg on youtube).

What I don't get about the Living Waters being criteria for redemption as an apostate is that that ancient rule would've been enacted when the Mandalorians still lived on Mandalore, yes? So that would have been a really easy task, that's not exactly a challenge to hop downstairs and polar plunge.

They don't need a flap in the armor. He can just keep his helmet. On the other hand she's probably too old for babies and she should realize that unless there's a clear successor to the throne its going to be a bloodbath after he dies.

Personally, I like the version of 'The Way' that was created by the Legends version of Boba Fett when he was The Mandalore. The idea that it is the duty of mandalorians to protect the innocent from evil and corruption, at least that's how it seemed to my understanding of it.

Well, I think the key to this is how he will be able to ride it. Grogu has the ability through the force to make the beast calm and trust the Mandalorian.

Grogu has the ability to calm the baby Rancor, but only Boba Fett can ride it. Boba Fett was the first being the baby Rancor saw, so it imprinted to Boba Fett as its mother. The baby Mythosaur has lived in darkness. The first being it saw was Bo-Katan, who only paused before it because she was in complete shock. Nevertheless, Bo-Katan is now its mommy. She just doesn't know it yet.

In Legends Jaster Mereel was a Mandalorian of Honor who gathered troops and bound them in said honor and Crator of The Super Commando Codex. Maybe Din Djarin could be this type of Mandalor in Canon. Maybe with a gathering of the current factions (Bo Katan, her former troops and AL other an affiliated Mandalorian as well as Children of the Watch) 🤔

Boba Fett was originally to replace Darth Vader as the main bad guy. And it wasn't just his armor . The actor did a good job acting. He studied Clint Eastwood's old Westerns to create this character. His movements and stance to make a believable bad A**. The light touch on how he holds his weapons is based on Clint holding a rifle. He saw that Clint was loose and relaxed, and this was how a true warrior would be. That he is experienced, and not afraid, and that he was ready for action. That being rigid would slow a person down.
