Star Allies lore is messy and overblown.

Kirby lore should be cherised, but it feels like Kirby fans value it for the wrong reasoning. The tid-bits in lore in the way it is presented makes things so much more fun, seeing HAL doing their best to add cameo's or tie everything together. It doesnt need to even be that much, like if we got to know what Mr Dooter's favourite food is. It is a technique of giving life to something, just like clues in for example the backgrounds (especially in Kirby 64). Gameplay and aesthetics are the entry barrier, lore is what keeps people invested in it.

I think speculation of the lore is also really fun especially with the ambiguity of different aspects of it. Each person has a different interpretation.

I really enjoy Kirby lore, not just because of the darker, more climactic elements, but because of how it makes the series feel more connected. That’s how I usually pitch the series lore, and the way they connect everything is how I’m inspired to do my own storytelling-simple on the surface with hidden depth for those that seek it. This actually fits perfectly with Kirby’s design philosophy.

Before star Allies I felt like the lore behind some antagonist was getting a bit too dark and sad, and while it play the same way for star Allies, star Allies gave these dark and some some what disturbing themes a very happy and satisfying out come for not just the hero’s but for the villains that aren’t really entirely to blame. Even though someone has done bad to you or tryed to threaten your life, you forgive and show them the light, because some day they will turn around and do good for you and other, maybe even put their life on the life on the line to protect someone they once looked down Upon. There is just such a strong and positive massage coming from some thing that is other wise really dark. Man I just love star Allies!

channel kirby lore lore Watching this video right after Sonico's criticisms of Kirby lore was quite an experience, it is fascinating to see two equally well-argued perspectives on a very important aspect of the Kirby franchise (Edit: was not is) Star Allies came very close to have the lore being too much of a main focus and harming the other aspects of that game, but was redeemed by just how fun the Dream Friends and their movesets are, and HiAD + SMEX (which apparently, wasn't even planned upon game release!) - and Forgotten Land fixed many of the issues of Star Allies, storytelling included!

Huh, well this timing feels convenient... You did a great job presenting your case on the many things that Kirby Lore does well and I can totally see what you mean when comparing it to other franchise, overall great video!

So basically Kirby slays demon's, god's and apparently and possibly his own brothers.

this video was amazing! the only real criticism I can offer is that for one of the sections, you just kind of assumed everyone was a TV tropes user, and though I love those tropes, you should probably explain what the "Knight of Cerberus" is for example, before throwing the term out willy nilly.

I say the lore is fine but in games like Kirby triple deluxe, some of it could've been explained at the end like the fact that the two final bosses were friends and that tarizana's crush controlled him at the beginning of the game.

I think Triple Deluxe kind of worked without the Miiverse posts. Like it could easily have worked without a spell even, just a form of blind loyalty from romance converting to guilt after realization. The extra mode gives enough info in that game. Planet Robobot however kind of heavily relied on Miiverse if you wanted a full picture.

I love Kirby lore it’s so fun to look at to see what type of story HAL is trying to make. But yeah you’re right about that the way HAL does all of the stuff is such a good decision. But thanks for the video Channel Kirby and I hope you all have a AMAZING YEAR God Bless Happy Gaming

The question I have is, does the lore explain where Adeline from Kirby 64 came from, no offense, but she seems out of place, every other Kirby character is some type of anthropomorphic animal and fairy thing, but Adeline, she's ACTUALLY a human and there's no denying it (I'm not counting Ribbon here because Ribbon is clearly a fairy), okay, just a sec, let me look it up Okay, it is confirmed that she just came to Popstar to study art, but they also say her actual home is unspecified, so, allow me while I try to make theories about how Adeline came from the forgotten land and left before the stuff with Mr Lion Guy (forgot his name but I think it's Liongor) could happen, I'll actually make a video about this on my channel after the other video I'm making today

I think one of my favorite interpretations of the lore vs story in Kirby is the Story is what we're seeing from Kirby's point of view, a small lad who's still really young and innocent (but also more recently showing to have a more serious side at times) and the Lore is well. everything else. We may learn of all the history of a final boss, their tragic story and reason for action, but Kirby is only there to see what's going on in the now-- that whoever the villain may be is causing problems and needs to be stopped before it's too late. We may hear about what the others are doing in the background during the adventure, but Kirby only would be seeing his side of things. if you don't bother to dig into the bonus information, like the pause screens or other outside lore, the player knows pretty much as much as Kirby himself does about the adventure currently at hand.

Very much this, I've never heard the relative innocence/lack of in-game information/context (outside of the pause screens) being explained in a better way. It's like pausing the game briefly brings you outside of Kirby's perspective to provide more lore details that might only be known by a third person, while also suspending him (and his perspective) in place ❤

I think splatoon is very similar. The lore very present, if you know where to look. It is glazed over in the main game, with the story mode feeding little morsels to us with each game. That’s what makes those story modes good.

    List of mainline Kirby games in chronological order: 1) Kirby's Dreamland (1992) 2) Kirby Super Star (1996) 3) Kirby's Dreamland 2 (1995) 4) Kirby's Dreamlans 3 (1997) 5) Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards (2000) 6) Kirby's Adventure (1993) 7) Kirby Squeak Squad (2006) 8) Kirby and the Amazing Mirror (2004) 9) Kirby's Return to Dreamland (2011) 10) Kirby Triple Deluxe (2014) 11) Kirby Planet Robobot (2016) 12) Kirby Star Allies (2018) 13) Kirby and the Forgotten Land (2022)

@piewpower, actually, it really isn't, Kirby Super Star (1996) takes place after Kirby's Dreamland (1992) and before Kirby's Dreamland 2 (1995), Kirby's Dreamland 3 (1997), Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards (2000), and Kirby's Adventure (1993), the former three take place before the latter, with Kirby Squeak Squad (2006) taking place before Kirby and the Amazing Mirror (2004), this is mainly because Kirby currently lives on Planet Popstar but was never born there, Meta Knight was also not born on Planet Popstar either but arrived on the planet long before Kirby did, in fact, both King Dedede and Meta Knight were hostile to Kirby before Kirby ended up facing Marx, Dark Matter/0, and Lord Nightmare, King Dedede raiding villages and Kirby's faceoff against Dedede would be where Kirby meets King Dedede for the first time and Kirby's duel with Meta Knight on Battleship Halberd would be where Kirby meets Meta Knight for the very first time, so Kirby Super Star (1996) is actually a sequel to Kirby's Dreamland (1992) but a prequel to Kirby's Dreamland 2 (1995), Kirby's Dreamland 3 (1997), Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards (2000), and Kirby's Adventure (1993).

@piewpower, my proof is in the plot of Kirby Super Star (1996), which is because the Spring Breeze segment is considered a shortened remake of Kirby's Dreamland (1992), proving that all of the events within Kirby Super Star (1996) take place much before other Kirby games, making Kirby Super Star (1996) a sequel to Kirby's Dreamland (1992) but a prequel to Kirby's Dreamland 2 (1995), Kirby's Dreamland 3 (1997), Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards (2000), and Kirby's Adventure (1993), the former three being prequels to the latter.
