Why Kaliningrad, Russia's Exclave in Europe, Is So Strategic | WSJ

In a rare trip, Vladimir Putin visited Kaliningrad, a Russian region surrounded by NATO member states. WSJ explains why the exclave, which has been at the center of escalating tensions amid the Ukraine war, is so important for Moscow.

Königsberg was part of Germany not just under the Nazi period, but was established around 1286 by the knights of the Teutonic Order and remained part of Prussia and then Germany until the end of WWII. Russia became the new owner under the agreement reached by the U.K., the USA, and Russia at the Potsdam Confrence 1946 (having occupied East Prussia and Königsberg in the winter of 1944-45). The philosopher Immanuel Kant was a professor at its University in the 18th century. My wife's mother fled from Königsberg in early 1945. Most ethnic Germans that remained in East Prussia when the Red Army arrived were shot immediately since Russia already decided it got Königsberg -- an ice-free port on the Baltic Sea-- as partial compensation for the crimes the Germans had committed in Russia.

That's a lie!! You're trying to re-write history, Russians didn't shoot any civilians, unlike the Germans which they did, all the Germans that were left in East Prusia after the war ended were shipped to what is today Germany, the same thing happened to the Germans who ended in what it is today Poland, but it was German territory before the war ended, they were shipped to Germany and were re-populated by Poles.

Kaliningrad can only be "defended" through the threat of the nuclear annihilation of civilization. In a conventional war it would fall so fast Pootin's head would spin. Of course Kaliningrad would also be obliterated along with much of mankind in that nuclear war...

The Russians gave Germany back their country in 1989. The Russians went home. The Americans have since used Germany to prosecute wars in the middle east and Afghanistan, U.S. troops are stationed in Germany on a permanent basis. Casualties of American wars overseas are patched up in German military hospitals, before returning to the U.S. Germany is as an occupied U.S. colony. Poland is about to have American military bases. Romania has U.S. military bases. Japan has thousands of American military stationed on a permanent basis. South Korea is also occupied. Taiwan is about to get some tough love from the Americans. The Americans are only interested in the use of Taiwan as an unsinkable aircraft carrier. If the Americans love their freedom and democracy, why are there so many Americans locked up in prisons. America has the highest divorce rate in the world, America has three times the number of single parent families in the developed world. America is the most racist country in the World. The Americans continue to promote their war economy, to include any country that wishes to decide for themselves. The Americans continue to practice divide and conquer, promoting instability and chaos anywhere they do not get their way. This makes a fortune for the American weapons manufacturers. The U.S. continue to expand their U.S. NATO in Eurasia under a false pretext. NATO has no reason to exist, following the dissolution of the Warsaw pact. The Europeans have absolutely no control over what Washington military planners intend to achieve using their E.U. vassal states, riding shotgun. E.U. U.S. led NATO expansion into Ukraine was about America needing fresh meat. Ethnic Russians were targeted by the Ukrainian NAZI's who were trained and armed by the United States. The United States repeats this pattern of behavior, with exactly the same outcome every time. The U.S. are using their E.U. vassal states like a coalition of the willing. Obviously U.S. led NATO is about transatlantic militarism and promoting American values and changing the psychological dynamics of the world to cultivate good consumers The Americans operate a war economy. The Americans are able to fund their excursions, because everyone who uses the U.S. dollar for foreign exchange is assisting the Americans in their own destruction. If Russia has a problem concerning E.U. leadership and their apparent inability to make decisions concerning their own right to self determination. The Russians take it up with Washington, this is where all the E.U. plans are made. As a European and a person who lived in the U.S. thirty years. I do not trust the U.S. Absolutely no way. Criminal Enterprise Involving Public Officials is rampant in the United States.

After 19 years since the beginning of the invasion of Iraq, has the West forgotten this war? The Iraq war is said to have resulted in 1 million deaths the difference is russia have weapons of mass destruction A message to the future generations never make russia feel threatened the difference between "looking dangerous" and "being dangerous".Russia describes military doctrine as defensive military doctrine. With regard to nuclear weapons specifically, Russia reserves the right to use nuclear weapons: in response to the use of nuclear and other types of weapons of mass destruction against it or its allies,in case of aggression against Russia with the use of conventional weapons when the very existence of the state is threatened Russia has the World's Largest Bomber As of 2022, the Federation of American Scientists estimates that Russia possesses 5,977 nuclear weapons, while the United States has 5,428; Russia and the U.S. each have about 1,600 active deployed strategic nuclear warheads. Russia has the most nuclear weapons of any country, at 6,257. Of these, 1,458 are active, meaning they are already deployed, 3,039 are available (can be deployed if needed) and 1,760 are retired (out of use and awaiting dismantlement How do Russian nuclear weapons compare to the rest of the world? Russia - 6,257 America 5,550 UK - 225 France - 290 China - 350 Israel - 90 Pakistan - 165 India - 156 North Korea - 40 When you tell the truth it's always gonna be controversial. Who have killed more people in last two decades ? America or Russia how many people have been killed and wounded in Iraq since the 2003 United States invasion. However, we know that between 184,382 and 207,156 civilians have died from direct war related violence caused by the U.S., its allies, the Iraqi military and police, and opposition forces from the time of the invasion through October 2019. The violent deaths of Iraqi civilians have occurred through aerial bombing, shelling, gunshots, suicide attacks, and fires started by bombing. Many civilians have also been injured. Because not all war-related deaths have been recorded accurately by the Iraqi government and the U.S.-led coalition, the numbers are likely much higher. Several estimates based on randomly selected household surveys place the total death count among Iraqis in the hundreds of thousands. Several times as many Iraqi civilians may have died as an indirect result of the war, due to damage to the systems that provide food, health care and clean drinking water, and as a result, illness, infectious diseases, and malnutrition that could otherwise have been avoided or treated. The war has compounded the ill effects of decades of harmful U.S. policy actions towards Iraq since the 1960s, including economic sanctions in the 1990s that were devastating for Iraqis. Despite more than $100 billion committed to aiding and reconstructing Iraq, many parts of the country still suffer from lack of access to clean drinking water and housing.

is Ukraine a democracy "of our values"? 1/ the laws on languages are anything but not democratic, it is a linguistic dictatorship for the sole benefit of the Ukrainian language. Russian speakers who represent half of Ukrainian speakers do not even have the right to education in Russian for their children at school, neither television in Russian, nor menus in restaurants in Russian nor subtitles in Russian at the movies or at the Opera 2/President Zelensky frauded his country's tax authorities (Pandora Papers investigation by 100 top journalists), his main mentor is Ihor Kholomoisky (who embezzled the equivalent of 5% of Ukrainian GNP!) he is an oligarch and a criminal 3/ In 2010 President Victor Youtchenko declared "hero" of Ukraine Stepan Bandera a collaborator with the Nazis and icon of the infamous Azov regiment... The European Parliament and the Simon Wiesentahl Center had condemned this heroization 4/ Parades in memory of the Ukrainian SS division Galichina took place on several occasions, the last of which was in Kiev... There is a monument commemorating this SS division in the city of Lvov, the only memorial monument in the world for the SS. ... 5/ In the Economist Intelligence Unit, Ukraine ranks only 83rd place in democracy. 6 / And in terms of corruption according to "Transparency International" Ukraine comes in 123rd place out of 180. Indeed it is common knowledge that 5-7oligarchs have their strong hands on the economy. 7/ Ukraine orders its "partners" to cut off Russian gas at the risk of seriously damaging Europe's economy while Ukraine itself receives Russian gas and even royalties by pipeline passage thru Ukraine... 8/ Presenting itself as always "Paragon" of virtue, Ukraine is nevertheless pinpointed out by Amnesty International for endangering the lives of civilians by using civilian buildings as military bases. To think that they would use their own population as a shield human there would be only tiny steps. Ukraine even accuses Amnesty of collusion with Russia, which is on border of ridiculouness. 9 / Unlike truly democratic and peaceful states, Ukraine was part of a coalition violating international law under false evidences, of the USA and its 2003 invasion in Iraq which caused a total of 1/2 million deaths, Ukraine is surely disqualified for her incessant demand for respect for international law when itself broke this law. Ukraine also refused to implement agreements it had itself signed; the Minsk 2 agreements, under pressure from Ukrainian neo nazis ultra-nationalists and probably from the USA, dragging its country into the war. Whereas these remarks are all verifiable, it is up to everyone to judge whether or not Ukraine is a democratic state defending the "democratic" values of the West as it is systematically affirmed

Over one million CIVILIANS dead in Iraq (over a lie that they had WMD, when Washington and ex-president G W Bush knew well ahead of the invasion that it was a lie/excuse to launch that criminal war on the country) and Afghanistan.

Could you, please, not show photos and videos of Putin the killer? This is sensitive for many people, tortured, crippled by the Russian invaders, with their houses destroyed. I agree that it is very important to make such shows. But it is quite possible to do this without his face.

No one is more of a killer than Poroshenko, Zelensky and the AZOV Battalion - Fascists and Neo-Nazis who discriminated, oppressed and killed thousands of innocent people in the east and south of Ukraine for the simple reason of speaking Russian instead of Ukrainian. Your lies, are just that, lies and propaganda!
