Thanks for sharing. 70's & 80's were the best days of Winston Cup.

Uh - greed. Though NASCAR was still pretty good until they let that moron Brian France screw it all to hell. I never thought I'd see anyone screw up motorsports worse than Tony George, but ol' Brian managed it.
Jeff was a smart crew chief. He was great on TV too. They should invite him back.

Agree miss Hammond. I believe he has a high paying executive job at RCR.
I was at the Winston race. Years later Flossie gave me a tour of the old Ingles Hollow shops, including the engine dyno room. My mind immediately thought of the engine built and tested in that room, exploding at the start finish line. It’s never been confirmed or owned up to, but LOTS of speculation that engine wasn’t entirely built to ‘spec’ and Darrel dropped the clutch! Would love to final hear if this was true or not! Love the cheating stories of NASCAR! They all did it and the mechanical ingenuity absolutely amazes me!!! Those were golden days of racing!!!
Great story!! Glad he shared about that weekend with us

Good question you asked there Christian 👍
That was a awesome race and knowing that Danny Sullivan did the spin the win at Indy that year. 👍👍👍
Jr Johnson and jaws
That dw impression lol
Harry Gant had you beat, but Travis Carter made a bad call by pitting too early and his tires were toast.
I would’ve liked to hear more about that engine blowin up. That was suspicious as all get out. DW ran down Gant, then the motor blows across the finish line. 😂

NASCAR has forgot all the people and things that made them great. They are like Bud Lite; catering to people that don't give a damn about racing.

I agree 100%. I’ve said that on my show many times. It seems they’re trying to get the next generation but my generation came from my dad and my grandfather being Nascar fans and that influenced me

With all of the BS going on with NA$CAR ,I've been saying that all along. Hendricks should have closed the shops down . His four cars not showing up would have the money people and fans losing their minds
The points system tries to insure no one stays home, having said that based on my experience I find racers won't usually all stand together to get the attention of sanctioning bodies and the lesser cars will compete just for the carrot (points) if NASCAR refuses to cooperate and acknowledge they have serious issues, more and more teams will go to IMSA, NHRA, or other venues and options, the current atmosphere in NASCAR is getting more toxic to teams every day, and all that will soon be left are the cars that no matter what can't win a race....
Of course Junior's car won that All-Star race in 85, he had more engine than everyone else! Blew up at the 🏁 my ass, Darrell dumped the clutch & blew that engine to smithereens!! After that no one could have done a "is it legal" inspection on that engine 😒 smh, what a sham 👎
