Mindset is massive when you get to the elite level in anything. Jordan would kick his grandpa’s chips out of his hands just to have a chance of winning a game of rock paper scissors.

Its not so clear cut as Genetics vs Mindset. These both played important factors in his success. Yes Jordan may not have been the tallest, strongest or fastest but he was pretty damn close and to be at his level u need to have the right genes for it as a foundation. His mindset also played a important role in keeping his motivated and driven to be the best he can be. In conclusion Jordan is certainly blessed with great genetics for explosiveness and size being 6’6 and having a 48 inch vert but also he has the mindset of a championship.

This guy was well-mannered as hell too. I wouldn't blame anyone for getting a big head if they had THAT kind of sheer dominance, but you know what? I think there is something to be said for keeping your head on your shoulders and keeping up consistent effort and excellence. Whenever someone points out that you have to be a mean-spirited person to win, Gretzky is an overwhelmingly good counterargument.. in most sports, if you argue against a certain person being the GOAT, you might get upset people and arguments. If you argue against Gretzky being the GOAT you get laughed out the room

Wouldnt call that mindset toxic. Competitive , disciplned, assertive and goal-driven are better more accurate , adjectives. Toxic has too much of a negative meaning and connotation. Jordan helped to lift his teammates' performances. And competitors' too.

You need the mindset on top of the genetics. There was one guy from my highschool who smoked daily, drank and did other drugs on the weekend's, slacked off in practice and never did any conditioning. Yet he was the 2nd most skilled player on our soccer team besides one hardworking guy who now plays D1. On top of that he could play a full 90 minutes and was the fastest sprinter on the team besides me and the D1 player. He easily had the highest genetic ceiling out of anyone I have ever played with or against but since he refused to put in any work outside of games he never got anywhere close to how good of a player he could of been. MJ's genetics may be amazing but he would be nowhere near how good he was without his mindset.

I disagree and don't see how you could convince yourself to adopt or at least advocate for others to adopt what you consider to be toxic traits. From my perspective these aspects don't seem to come from anxiety, hatred, or fear but rather competitiveness which could have toxic elements but not inherently. Maybe I'm wrong, we'll see.

Better than me specifically? Lol, nah...solid points IMO, MJ is never a good person to use as an example of anything. Some exceptional people are just that, the exception. You can have a dogged mindset, determination, will, hunger. heart, mental toughness, all that....but that means nothing if you're 5'5 and can't jump. Basically, the reason Mike's toxic mindset worked for him is partly because he's 6'6 with giant hands and jumped out the gym. The rest of us need to learn to get in where we fit in, since a toxic mentality only works if you're supremely talented. Also, why does this kid remind me of the guy who played Marvel's Punisher? lol

He’s not the greatest. Stop picking highlights… all the players in the NBA’s if you show only their highlights they will look the same. MJ loss most of his career. Bill Russell won most of his career. You can like MJ but closing your eyes to all the undisputed losses sweeps he has is disingenuous. MJ is a product of media and marketing using him to sell everything including tickets in the NBA. The commissioner even said if the legends were given all the tv movies magazines shoes and products commercial attention as MJ these would be a different outlook today. MJ is made and propped up by the media… take away that he just a player that played good but was not the biggest winner of all time of high school, of college of nba of nothing was he the biggest winner… that would be Bill Russell winning more than other sports.. nba 11 rings out of 13 seasons. Won championship as a coach also. Hall of fame twice. Won the most championships in a row (8). No big marketing campaign to hide the losses…just winning. ✨✨✨🏀
