As a Michigan fan watched him for 3 years and you got the best leader in the draft. When the times are tough and your offence is in 3 and long and you have to convert, JJ is going to get you those yards. I have seen it develop for 3 years and he has gotten better and better at it and will continue to get better at it I believe. He didn't do anything different than what Andrew Luck did at Stanford. Only thing is the style of football has changed so now the running game has not had as much value in football as a whole and most teams just pass more. Harbaugh football is NFL Football to a degree so it is mostly situational from start to finish with heavy run focus but you need great QB play to get you out of the third and 7+ situations that you will find yourself get into. Even though I am a Michigan fan I watch all of college football because of my channel and I will tell you now that from 10-20 yards passing on the run throwing across his body only maybe Mahomes is better. Really just throwing on the run in general he is great and very good at feeling the pressure and escaping and knowing when to run or extend plays. If you look at Maye, Caleb, Daniels and other QBs in the draft they didn't attack the intermediate middle on the field often. A lot of screens and short routes or long bombs 20+ yards. In the NFL you have to throw to that area of the field and that is what separates the greats from the journeymen. He already has that in his tool-belt.

@@MaxPowersCFB Appreciate your knowledge of the kid. I didn't follow Michigan much but obviously knew the name. Then finding out KOC and JJ knew each other from before, then checking out the qbs in the draft n watching film on him n i couldn't be more excited for this yr. I'm dying to see him play I'm assuming unless Darnold gets hurt this yr JJ will just be developing n since the prior relationship i don't feel like KOC would rush that development n risk getting JJ hurt n I'm ok with that cuz i don't want him too, either. If i had to wager, I'd say JJ is almost guaranteed to be a big name n will probably get franchised. I also feel like he's that good and i think he matches this team perfectly. We needed a scrambler, Cousins could never fill that role. And, dont get me wrong, i liked cousins especially the first few yrs but he wanted more n more money but couldn't deliver but 1 playoff win. He was good, but would never be his future asking price. I was actually wanting to see Cousins go even if it meant a few yrs of rebuilding. I have a feeling it was the best decision in recent history for MN and trading hardly anything to get up n draft McCarthy couldn't of worked out better. Plus he's got those cross passes n can complete passes of multiple distances while taking a big hit. I think a lot of the QBs in this draft will be stars but i think this kid is gonna be a superstar n get more playoff wins than Cousins in 2-3 yrs for sure.

@@jbus8810 One thing I will say is the year before when JJ was a sophomore, he was battling Senior B1G Champion Cade McNamara for the starting job and when it was all said and done it was virtually a no contest because it was night and day watching both play. They can try to limit JJ and bring him along slowly but JJ is not going to sit back and just say ok I am just going to hold a clipboard. Darnold is not Aaron Rogers so to me them saying even that they want to be patient is them just talking coach speak. Everyone who has watched JJ knows that he will be starting sooner rather than later. In some ways I think it is an advantage because he has the skills even though they were not seen much in college. That element of surprise can help a lot. Also, he is the youngest at 21 so he has way more room to develop than others in the draft. Most of the others are all finished products.

This has all been a part of a well orchestrated plan. Kwesi has been intentially shedding the old and expensive players, at positions of lesser value. And making all of the moves they needed to trade up for QB. They tried to trade up to 3 for Maye (likely) but NE said no. It was reported that they offered 11, 23, and next year's 1st. I'm thankful NE declined because JJ at 10 was a steal. NO ONE. I repeat. NO ONE thought Sam Darnold was signed to be the starter. He was always seen as a bridge QB if the draft went horrifically bad, an early season starter if the rookie needs time, and a back up as a best case scenario if the rookie doesn't need time.

You know, I've heard this "Maye" preference from everyone but the Vikings themselves. I wonder about that because MAye isn't the fit for this offense that JJM is. You can be certain KOC surely saw it. Yeah, they tried to trade up, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least if it was for JJM.

When u just look at the viking offense its absolutely terrifying for opposing teams, the wr's are the best duo in the nfl, the running back is awesome, the tight end is one of the best in the league, the offensive line is strong, and if mccarthy is athletic and throws very accurate passses, the defense will need 14 players just to cover all this talent. its over MN superbowl bound.

He has an indominable spirit and plenty of talent. Contrary to the many doubters and haters who have come here and made fools of themselves his football intelligence for the playing of the position is elite. JJ spent most of two years in an NFL style offensive system and as a 20 year old he directed an undefeated offense that won an NC-with a roster ranked in the teens. Any criticisms of JJ in this regard are deeply embedded in pathological ignorance.

He has all the advantages that McCarthy has and I want to see what Darnold can do with the MN offense and being coached by a good coach. I would love to see Darnold play well and give the Vikings 2 options at QB. I think McCarthy is going to be huge and I hope Darnold is either a quaility backup that you are not afraid to start or turns into a high draft pick through a trade. The only question mark I have on McCarthy is can he handle the pro game mentally and the speed of the game. Many players have the physical tools but they can't process the information fast enough and make the right decisions fast enough at the pro level. I can't wait to see McCarthy in purple.

Look I’ll tell you what JJ M if anything he’s going to be a good QB , with the right team the SSB can be possible in the future, why well it’s a reason we were still 7-10 and weren’t in picks 2-4 with 4 different QBs in the season it’s because the coaching and players, the way they were starting to develop through the season last year was impressive and + with the injuries other guys stepped up, I believe last year was a blessing in disguise, people won’t be expecting us to do much, other thing is the Vikings aren’t on this high they have nothing to lose, also other year with Flores is going to be a problem, the cap space is opening the Vikings are in a position that can shoot them to being top 5 in the NFL in 1 or 2 years and I’m excited

One fallacy keeps going around. Minnesota was NOT in a deperate situation since they planned to be done with Cousins after the 2023 season regardless after 6 years, 135 million dollars, and one PO win. They didn't extend Cousins after 2022 as they had previous years, and there were no serious talks before FA began. They knew this draft was rich in QB talent and Kwesi and KOC wanted their own. The one stone cold fact about it was as unfortunate as Cousins' injury was to him and his family, it was serendipitous for the Vikings because instead of thier usual 9-11 wins and another one and done in the PO, they went 7-10 and landed high enough to get their QB!

No QB, the Vikes were, in fact, desperate, as who knew how draft would play out. Their future was on the line, the heat was on, and the stakes were high. They wanted KC back, but he demanded the BANK, fully guaranteed. MN is WAY better off without the Stat Master...

  • @Tom-ut6ky

@@docholliday6285 They would have extended KC in 2022 if they really wanted him. KC even offered a reduced contract and they said no. Please show me what evidence you have they were "desperate" and where in hell you see the "heat was on" in any respect but the fevered minds of some fans. All I see was the execution of a multiyear plan that cleared high priced contracts on players no longer living up to them, signing a top 3 overall pick who never had a team around him and who could turn it around, diversted themselves of almost 60 million in dead cap, and drafted quality FAs instead of barrel scrapings. JJM was a target all along, but it was just luck that got him here at 10 without burning the multiple picks they were willing to spend.

Mccarthy did nothing but below avg output and ride an elite coach, run game, and defense. Because there's talent in Minnesota, it doesn't mean the guy that put up 140 yards in the natty, and 1 300 yard game all season is the guy that can all the sudden sling. Jefferson is going to waste a HOF career with a guy that hamds the ball off better than anyone.

Well, we will see on McCarthy but I am glad Cousins moved on. Nice guy, funny, and all that. Yet, he was eating up too much cap space for little results. Atlanta can enjoy, but you should realize why felt they needed to draft a QB in the top ten. Given the division Atlanta is in I would expect they will have a good upcoming season with Cousins but not much more after first season.

Very smart, great arm, amazing footwork, pocket awareness appears to be better than most rookie Qb prospects in recent memory, and has a killer instinct about him that we were missing in Kirk Cousins. The Dirty Birds did Cousins dirty.. I hope it works out for ATL but that's a weird situation two QB's competing when Cousins is guaranteed 100mil, you got two guys competing for the locker room, the fans, coaches when it should've been Kirk's team, although never played a snap and a rookie QB with that much talent who's going to want to play not sit and learn (and I wouldn't blame him).. just a stupid pick imho only because of the situation, smart pick if Cousins is the starter and Penix is cool with sitting but that probably ain't happening. We'll definitely see Penix start this year. McCarthy definitely moved into a great situation, division is tougher but I think MN can rise up.. they have to take care of business at home vs Chi, GB and DET at minimum. Was ATL still butt hurt over that loss to MN and Dobbs from 23' I just don't get over paying Cousins and going Penix?

The better you are the more people hate that can’t accept it! We live in a time where people would rather hate than LOVE! VERY SAD!!! Sure J.J. May struggle that’s normal with every QB. Look at Tom Brady, The Mannings, there are many more in the past!!! What McCarthy has going for him is his love for God, his willing to learn and listen to his coaches, he is a great kid that is VERY HUMBLE and thank God he does not read all these posts he stays away from Social Media!!! Vikings have a GREAT QB and you haters will see!!! P.S. Watch the KZread when J.J. Was being born! His dad said his name will be Johnathan James they will call him J.J.
