Heck YES!!! Plant nerds unite. I’m older, and I’ve been into plants since the 90’s. It was WILD watching the plant spike. And I had a blast with everyone else chasing some IT plants. The whole hobby has come so far. The weed industry has contributed too. We’ve got amazing options for lights, feeding, soil, poles, and knowledge! Now I’m honing my collection to what I love most. Upgrading to high variegation plants where I had struggling or low variegation intro plants. Giving away any that don’t bring me joy. And focusing on care this year. 💚💚💚💚

Great video. I think many more people are into plants now, and some of them started during the plantdemic. I have been collecting plants since the late eighties and I got an apartment of my own. Plants were big in the seventies and my parents had them. It's a wonderful hobby to have for a lifetime, there's always something new on the scene to collect.

I’ve got to disagree a little bit. As a lifelong plant lover and collector, Ive really enjoyed the explosion in popularity. I’ve been collecting plants for decades now and there have never been so many rare plants available. I remember trying to find an albo monstera decades ago after reading about one in an old plant encyclopedia and I couldn’t find one. It wasn’t about cost, they simply were not available. At all. There was no market so no one was selling them. Maybe if you lived in the tropics, near a specific Florida nursery or traveled to rare plant conferences, you could find these plants, but not me up here in Michigan. Back in the day there weren’t these amazing anthuriums and aroids available. Let alone, anthurium hybrids. Or variegated anything. Glad prices are coming down but equally glad the hype expanded availability.

I have loved plants since I was kid when my mom would take me outside and teach me how to make some of the most beautiful flower beds I’ve ever seen to this day! She started teaching me when I was like 9 or 10 and literally taught me so much! But that was outdoor plants. She had a few pothos growing up but when I comes to truly growing and collecting indoor plants, I have honestly taught myself over the years through reading, watching countless videos and of course trial and error! 😂 But for me, that’s part of the fun and what keeps me coming back for more! It’s the challenge of “okay, I’ve learned how to make this one happy, now what I can grow?!?” I love every single part of growing plants indoors and out! My mom always “you definitely got your green thumb from your grandmother” she was a member of the garden club in Arlington Tx for as long as I can remember and is where my love for this “hobby” comes from without a doubt! Another great video! I could listen to you talk about plants all day! 😊

I have always loved plants and also took care of the garden in my family home. But I moved out, got a job, a lot of things happened in my life and I kind of forgot about plants. So I'm really grateful for the plant craze, because I rediscovered my love for plants. This time I'll stay for sure and as I'm now looking for a house, I also keep looking for big windows, a lot of light, so I can finally grow really big plants which I sadly cannot in my apartment

I actually got into houseplants over the pandemic (not neccessarily because of the pandemic. I'd already been consuming plant content and similar content for years by that point) towards the end when everything peaked, and it was really difficult to get into the hobby because of how expensive everything was (and still kinda is) at the time. So like, still being in the hobby, and having suddenly having everything drop in price (pretty quickly, from my experience in other stuff) is kind've a dream come true. I can collect houseplants to my hearts content and no one, not even my bank, can stop me.

As a gen z plant parent, same. Though, I think we're still in the beginning of gen z getting into it, especially considering that we're all still focused on houseplants, and there still aren't many of us that are into gardening all that much. I feel like that'll probably be the next craze- Y'know, considering the 15 minute city political pushm and the want for environmental and all that. I think naturising cities and gardens will be a rather massive motivation behind that. That's if we ever actually see any changes in that department, though.

Just put a note "Please mark my box LIVE PLANT". You will be surprised, about 50% of your orders will be cancelled in 24 hours. Because what they paid to create this "shop" and it's "reputation" is more important to them than any order.

I've been into plants for a couple decades but it was never something I went online for before the pandemic. It certainly opened a new world for me. Don't get me wrong, I bought PLENTY but I couldn't fathom some of the prices people were willing to pay for tiny little cuttings, let alone an entire plant. Then, of course, the folks who used their collection (volume of plants, 'rarity', if a plant wasn't TC, or who they purchased the plant from) as a way to feel superior to others. In any case, I'm so pleased that prices are coming down so I can comfortably purchase the plants I've been wanting for a while like M. 'burle marx flame' and caramel marble

I can’t help but to think that the Philodendron Pink Princess was “The learning lesson Plant” for a large majority of the plant community when it came to the Plantdemic! The rush to propagate, the #1 most pushed to tissue culture at the time, the #1 MUST HAVE on everyone’s wishlists, and the quickest to fall price wise on the market during the time! Not to mention once we all got it and forked over money we definitely didn’t have to get it…..it ended up having LOTS of problems more so than other Philos I feel like! Notorious for the glass slipper stuck leaf issues and chopped down to terrible genetics for variegation if you weren’t one of the first to grab them at the very beginning! I still have mine but it was the BIGGEST Lesson for me for the entire situation and I honestly haven’t threw out that much cash for a plant since! I love it but could totally like without it forsure!!! I only buy plants I truly loveeeee instead of “what’s in or trending” because eventually I know the price will fall and also be somewhat locally available even in my small town somewhere! It’s just how it works…..! Also Love this video and great work as always! 🪴☺️

So yea, I bought the pink princess during the surge and regret it, partially. I've chopped the heck out of it and have beautiful variegation, but small plants. Not a great philodendron overall, but my cuttings from the original are so much better than the ones on the market now selling for a fraction of the cost back in 2020 (most are labeled 'Pink Princess" but should be labeled 'Reverted Pink Princess').

You would have to pay $500 for a monstera deliciosa plant now? In Sweden, where I live, you can buy those at some supermarkets for like $20 to $30 (converted from SEK). Are the ones you speak about different in some way, or why is the price difference so large otherwise? Prices in Sweden are generally somewhat lower than in the US for everyday stuff (by maybe 20% or so), but not by 90%.

Also, the last few years I've noticed there are less and less ceramic pots that don't have the bottom saucers attached anymore......very frustrating and just don't like it.

the high price of gold is what creates a stampede of prospectors. the high price of plants is what created a stampede of propagators, and poachers. except, the high price of plants was largely driven by votes/likes on instagram. in other words, the lowest common denominator. i’ve been collecting aroids and hoyas for 20 years so i definitely enjoyed the flood of new varieties, but in a perfect world where propagation priorities aren’t determined by tyranny of the clueless majority, a far more useful group of plants would have won the contest.

Kids are expensive 😂 And plants are easier to manage. Now that I’ve maxed out on space available for plants, and I typically have what I need on hand, I barely spend anything on plants anymore. It’s nice to have the money aspect of it no longer a stressful part of the equation.

I have both and to me there is no comparison. Hands down children win every time. Now that I'm almost 68, I do have more houseplants to care for and do enjoy my new hobby :))

I don’t want to yuck anyone’s yums, but I still have trouble understanding why certain plants are so sought after. Caramel marbles and orange princesses seem to be in vogue and are a little ugly to my eye. Same with variegated Billie. I love normal Billie, but the variegated one looks diseased and pockmarked, not variegated in a pretty way. To each their own!

I do prefer plants how they appear in the wild as well. I also grow cactus and succulents and you'd get a massive specimen for the prices that a small of the boutique plants are sold for.

All these variegated plants are such lazy breeding. I’m ready to see breeders focus on leaf shape, size, etc instead of just infecting plants with a virus.
