Why Israel and Iran are enemies | Mapped Out
On April 13, 2024, Iran launched missiles and drones toward Israel, vowing retaliation for a deadly strike on the Iranian consulate in Syria, reportedly by Israeli forces. It was the Islamic Republic's first direct attack on its bitter enemy. Prior to the strikes, Iran and Israel had been engaged in a years-long shadow war - and attacks by the Iran-backed militant Islamist group Hamas on Israel in October 2023 had moved the conflict to a whole new level. What are the roots of the Iranian-Israeli conflict? And what role does Israel's number one ally, the US, play in it?

To be fair, this video DOES mention the deposition of the Shah. It doesn't explain how the Shah got into place and the resentment that caused, which might have been useful. But every video about history has to start somewhere or else you'd be going back forever. This never claimed to be a comprehensive history of Iran, but you are correct that that is valuable background in terms of Iranian resentment of U.S. interference in the region.

Incredibly, you did not mention the recent agreement between Iran and Saudi Arabia brokered by China that led even to an exchage of ambassadors and put and end to Iran's isolation, nor did you mention Syria position nor the fact that Israel owns 100-200 nuclear bombs. More, you reported and used the US and EU definitions of IRAN as they were "the truth", while they're obviously negative. So your storytelling is very partial, in my opinion.
"He wrote several books on a particular topic in two languages. So he really knows what he's talking about..." , This is the most superficial thing I've heard in a while. What an insult to the audience's intelligence.

As an Iranian I would like to thank DW for its comprehensive report on this. However one thing that was not mentioned in this report was the internal problems within Iran as there have been many bloody protests and riots against the government within Iran over the last two years, so other than the fact that the current government has been trying to spend billions of dollars to fund its ideological goals, it has also been trying to use this conflict in the region as a means of distraction and diverting the attention of people from real internal issues facing the country.

This video is not good enough to explain how much the issue is complicated. The Israelis-Iranian relationship is far more complex than this document briefly mentioned. For example, the Israeli ambassador to South Korea once said to Koreans "One day, we will have a peaceful relationship with Iran, I am sure. For we have no issue or argument with Iran as a country. Maybe around that time, the Korean peninsula would be united." The Israeli diplomat might have lied to Koreans, but I believe this comment shows that the Israeli foreign policy establishment sees their relationship with Iran in a multi-dimensional way. And Iranians are not as simple and homogeneous as this video describes. They have a sophisticated and institutionalised governance system. Some may be religious and ideological but others must be practical and competitive. That is why the Iranian regime managed to survive even though there was and is a lot of pressure to destroy it. To sum up, my point is this: do not underestimate how far both Israelis and Iranians are capable and how complicated each of their internal societies are. It's not that much simple. If it were, it would have been much easier to deal with this issue.

Beyond rhetoric, there has been virtually no response from Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the Gulf States. Iran doesn't seem to doing any thing more than sticking a finger in the eye of Israel and the United States. Even Hezbollah who one would think would rise up has only launched a few token missiles. Excellent coverage. Thank you.
8:39 "doesn't acknowledge this", what you mean by doesn't acknowledge this, one of their minister literally saying that nuclear strike is one of the option to destroy Gaza, the UN knew that Israel possess nuclear weapon, but they do nothing about it.

Many people in Africa I know support Israel. They do not agree with South Africa's hatred. Very few African people support Arab warmongering.

My aunt and uncle went to Iran long ago. They loved the country. Beautiful, friendly people. I also have it on my bucket list but currently I'm staying away. Same as Russia. But it's such a shame as the bad part is only a small part of the people/country. 😢
People who don’t live there, don’t have any idea what is happening there
The nation of Iran doesn't oppose Israel or America. The demonstrations you showed are filled with the minority of people who support the regime. Less than 10% of the people. The heart of the nation of Iran is with Israel and the US.

Id like to think this conflict becomes the flashpoint for indigenous rights world wide.
And they do reflect what we all think
And Iran just sent missiles into Israel last night. So they are directly involved now. What happens next?
In fact, if we have to be honest, colonialism, occupation, apartheid, should no longer exist on earth. So it is not only Iran that opposes Israel, but all countries in the world that want peace will oppose actions that are not in favor of humanity. Let's not think stupidly that the Israeli conflict started on October 7, and forget the dispute that has been going on for 75 years.

none of this would have happened if the palestinians would have said yes to negotiations, anytime. and I don't see how israel is connected to colonialism... of who? americans? because america wasn't a close friend of israel till 67, which in that period israel could have been destroyed countless times.

If the Palestinians were not a constant threat to Israel they could've been living right now like their brothers in Jordan, perhaps even better as they'd be working with and inside Israel and thus benefitting from the trade relations. If they give up their claim to the land they'd be better off.
Please map out the Eastern Congo (DRC) conflict as well.
Nice information
This video so relevant but missed the last call on Irans attack.
Call me old-fashioned, but the differences are much more historical than geopolitical. They are rooted in biblical (and other ancient) accounts, and the separation of the Hebrew people and Arab tribes starting with Isaac and Ishmael. Biblically it says that there would be emnity between the two people groups. But most of the unbelieving world does not take biblical accounts seriously, so the world will not find a solution or really understand humanities' future path, or the 'why' on its own.

True goes deeper than just political and economical
It all about USA interest nothing much
Iran has a large Azeri population. Not a small point. Internal Iranian issues are a major factor in the mess.
calling for the destruction of a state is not against the main religion of the state. People really need to understand this before trying to explain a conflict.
Iran will not directly involve war with Isreal. If so then USA will defend.
