If you’re referring to the war of 1812 that’s not what happened, the war was against England, Canada just so happened to not be a country yet and was controlled by England. The main reason for the war was due to England blocking trade between America and other countries and England literally kidnapping American sailors to help on their ships. The reason for the war was never to annex Canada.
