As a vet, 1630ilvl, more than 4k hours. 1-Honning sucks; 2-Raids after a while become a chore and not fun, and having to do them on multiple chars contributes to this; 3-Alts (you do need them for gold genaration) and if you dont make alts you need to swipe; 4-Bad ballancing, no need to expand on this, SG dosent play their own game;. 5-Mandatory supports, wating for supports at endgame can take more time than the raid it self; 6-Too few solo contents and not beeing able to play more on Main; 7-AGS and SG dont give a F to non korean or CN players; These points are what drive people away from the game.

These are things that make veterans stop playing, not things that make new players stop playing. I also disagree in part. I also used to think alts are the only way to enjoy this game, so I got burned out on daily chores and quit. I was back about 4 months later but I decided to choose a main and stick with it. Playing one character is the absolute best. I play like 20~30mins every 3rd day and just do some raids on weekends. I think that is the best way to enjoy this game, because the game itself IS fun, it's the daily grind on tons of characters that kills it. Now I can play LA and still have time to play other games, watch more series and do other stuff. Sure, I couldn't be 1620 on Ivory Tower release. I'm not 1620 to this day, and I don't care a single bit. I don't even mind when people die or mess up raids, I won't have to do 15 more of them on 5 other characters.

Agree 100%. My main is 1635. I have 7 other 1600's. As an EO SF main, as strong as she is ... watching other classes power creep me with a fraction of effort just becomes overwhelmingly sad sometimes. Example: I made a surge blade for the express pass. With event gems in Sonavel, no elixirs, and only a 19 brel weapon I am hitting 24 mil dps. Which is absolutely insane to me. And guess what? Soul Eater is stronger there and to some degree Asura breaker is also stronger. The balancing wouldn't be so damn bad if it was easier to swap mains around. Like my main cost 5 months of gold generation about + swiping. To get her where she is. Why on earth would I do that for alts? Yes, I do have a lot of 1600's but 3 of them came with express passes and tapping with bound mats along the way. I'd say an 8th bullet point here is needed. (1000% a veteran complaint mind you) is that this new express toon is going to pass characters that I've had since the beginning of the game. With ease, mind you. So this 'alts are mandatory' thing ... gets old really fast. Because as long as you have a 6 gold earners at least doing something that doesn't have nerfed gold. You will be fine and just wait for express passes. Because these things are pretty much giving free high ilvl classes if you've had them around a long time. Like my Deathblade had been 1540 since Brel HM launched. So she's a year old of doing chaos dungeons, guardians, etc. A years worth of bound mats to push and close to 3 million shards on top of it. And the 9th I would add is the community itself. The absolute fomo for doing hard mode raids on launch is quite ridiculous also. And that gets passed on into the community, party finder, etc. The community, especially with Thaemine on the rise, needs to get over themselves a bit on HM or bust. You're not gonna have 6 1630's on thaemine launch to prog with, or echidna HM for that matter. Otherwise, my largest gripe is just how punishing having a main actually is. I love my main ... but there are aspects of her that really make me mad. And sometimes I really do wish I could just do like a $100 pass or something to swap all progression to another class. And it be locked that way per account for 1 year or something.

Have you played with actual new players in the last year? It is a fucking nightmare for them. They enjoy the main story do their quests and by the end of it they have an inventory filled with 300 items, which they don't know what to do with. Then they do chaos dungeon and enjoy it. Then they do solo guardian raid and it is fun. Then they try to do abyssal dungeon but nobody matchmakes or joins their party for hours. So instead they try a random fieldboss and nobody else is there and chaos dungeon at their ilvl is lucky if it fills. Maybe they do an adventure island and have a bit of fun. Eventually they get to alaric and never find a party. So they hon and hon and start to hate the system. Or they just powerpass past all that. Either way they find themselves at legion raids at some point. Maybe they did argos and it looked cool, but everything dies in 2 seconds before they can even do a mech or cast a spell. So they arrive at Valtan where matchmaking does not work. So they check find party and see WTS, card run, 2x orbs and dont know what any of that stuff even means. The only lobby that accepts them is a bus where the goblins already lurk for their gold and if they manage to join another party they get shit on cause they only watched a video about the fight how it was on ilvl. But know the boss hp is 0 before 2nd orbs. Eventually you didn't fuck up orbs were 1st maybe or 8th and get bussed through g2. Then they go to vykas they even prepared and watched a video about how to do g1 where you fight 2 guys. Ohh wait that shit guide is 2years old and that fight doesnt exist anymore. So they fuck up but someone timestops their orb and they get to g2 where they fuck up brown pools once. Immediately someone tells them to take off their gear they are useless trash anyway. So they made it through that. They now have about 500 items in their inventory and don't know what to do with any of it. Argueable they haven't played a single raid. But they are blocked out of doing it again and the only option is to sit in clown lobby where people dont take people unless they are 100 ilvl above what is needed. And this is just week one. What follows is months of gatekeeping, farming for bus money and praying they get to los18. All content creators have abandoned new players. They play with their friends at 1630 instead and make videos on what class to gatekeep instead of helping new players.

I agree and i'd take this a step further.... I play on NAE- 2 1620s, an army of 1600s. I play around 200+ ping but had smoe good friends to play with so I could tolerate it. Recently my friends quit so i decided to try on EU with lower ping(makes alot of difference). Now I was being gatekept on Valtan/Vykas by ppl with mokoko icons. So i decided to try out guild recruitment on discord. Explained the whole siutation, my experiene with the game and how i need help building up. Got declined from ALLL of them. Now this is my experience and a vet player who went out of his way to try and start over again. I can't imagine how a new player who doesn't go to discord etc and doesnt have exp with raids would even get in the game..

But the favored person will use peer pressure to make people keep up with them. Completely ignorant of their situation. This is an extreme example. But it's something I have seen play out in this community multiple times.

That is the core of MMO's and guess what, every single one of them has seen severe declines in active players in the last 5-6 years. The reason for it is the culture of gaming is changing but most MMO players are stuck in the past and won't allow the genre to grow into a more casual friendly and fun to play experience. One of the biggest games in recent times, while in a different genre is fortnite. The reason for it is because it's a game literally made around the core of something fun but slapped meme's and funny skins onto everything. Quite literally the embodiment of "jump on, have fun, jump off" ... there is no daily grind, there is no 'must of alts', there is no 'must replicate real world economy, and rng' in these games ... and they see millions of players play them. If the MMO genre wants to live, it has to adapt. And your mindset is what is killing the genre.@@vererertert

3k hours in, here are few reasons. First, for veterans: - The raids are fun but having to do them so much inevitably makes them boring at some point. Especially if you have no new class in your roaster and/or no friends to group with. This could be easily fixed with a tagging system that would allow you to play the raid once and claim 6 times the reward. - Daily content is not thrilling enough to hold up on the very long run. Chaos dungeons in particular need to feel fresher. - Daily Una's task are mind-numbing and needs to be completely deleted in favor of buffing weekly tasks. This would both get rid of bad dailies while simultaneously making weeklies more rewarding. - Supports being mandatory for any class to feel remotely good to play and for any content to be clearable is 100% stupid. Now, for new/returning players: - Legion raids on ilvl are WAY too difficult. - End-game solo content is completely inexisting. And even tho raids are fun they also are very challenging for beginners and create a vertical progression that is too steep. - Too many RNG system with no form of pity. (islands, quality taps, stone cutting, gem rolling, etc etc ...) Having so much of your progression feeling out of your control just isn't fun. - Engraving support system should be rentable in some way based on ilvl, to give returning players a way to play older character they can't afford to fully stuff yet, until they gather enough gold to be able to do so. - Cards are too grindy for how important they are. LOS 30 against LOS 18 is almost MVP Cruel fighter guaranteed every single time. Overall problems, affecting both population: - Games takes ages to boot. Poorly optimized. - Engravings need to be rework (2/3 of them are useless) and detached from the accessories. This would make auction house prices less stupid, and drops from content more usable. - Pheons need to go. - Normalized PVP is very (very) poorly balanced, and there's no 1v1 option whatsoever. - Housing is detached from in-game world. - Life-skilling is very lackluster.

I just want to be able to gear without raiding. I'm not talking top end, best gear. Just a set I can grind by crafting that I can level up so I can do the main story and do side content. I just feel the game tells casual players to fuck off and that leaves a lot of potential players from coming into the game. If tomorrow they had multiple paths for gear progression I would be back and I would spend money on the game again, until then I just keep waiting and hoping a light bulb goes off in the developers heads.

This game is too hard for the majority of people, straight up. There's nothing wrong with Legions, but there should be an easier tier of content stress-free for 'everyone'. People who are still playing like you and me love this game's combat and can tolerate harder stuffs, but all who left are the ones who got filtered by the difficulty/grind. The core of the game which is its combat is top notch, but every other thing else weigh this game down. Also Yearning buff should be the norm globally in-game and Supports shouldn't exist, waiting for them sucks. Balancing is also quite bad on top of it.

It's not rocket science , the answer is simple - lost ark dosent have new players coming, and only old players leaving, this can only end in one way. The reason? - the game design that encourages gatekeeping and that let you bus. Here is a little experiment for you - make a new account on EU servers and use powerpass, tell me how many raids you can get into with your new account...

  • @MaThMaTa1000

It's an easy solution that SG simply don't want to do. - Make it easy to main swap - let people divide the total roster gold for any number of character they want If one raid gives 5x gold and you gotta do it only once, suddenly people are extremely more patient. And also, equalize old raids to maximum ilvl e.g. Playing Valtan always equalize you to 1460 or something even if you are 1640, but still reward you if you play them. This removes bussing and incetivize people to teach new players

I used to play around launch and recently started playing again. This game is not new player friendly at all. I had leveled my character from the start without the power pass to experience the campaign. I managed to get to around 1570. I joined Hanumatan guardian raid through matchmaking and one of the players was absolutely toxic saying I was "useless and an idiot" at the end after we killed it. Even though I had only died once, and I think I was 2nd place in damage. Also trying to get into learning parties is another difficult task too. There are a lot of paywalls, or thousands of additional time invested to really experience the full game.

I played since western release and then quit at around 1505 back when brelshaza released (around 1300 hours into the game). It was because of a few reasons: 1) It took me hours to get into pub brelshaza groups (no supports showing up. They only joined people with very high ilvl, people who swiped or rmt) 2) New people do get a huge part of your playtime for free with catchup events. I played hundreds of hours to reach 1430 just to see friends starting from scratch to reach that point in a few hours. Feels like wasted time to play lost ark. 3) There were to much raid mechanics to learn in a short amount of time. By the time I managed to get comfortable with vykas, clown came out. By the time i got comfortable with Clown, brel came out. There was no time to chill. You had to learn constantly and that was to much for me. 4) Dailys felt like a chore, especially when forced to do them on multiple chars

New players have to learn somehow and "learning groups" don't happen often and can't accommodate everyone who needs to learn. The LFG discord is helpful, but not as helpful as you need to learn everything in a timely fashion. After looking at guides and learning the mechs I join pugs and give it 3 attempts and then get kicked. That is how I learned, no one does perfect in any raid the first time. I have had some of the rudest and vile comments be thrown at me for this type of learning. I now join pugs and stay until it's complete, but I'm not the one making mistakes.

I mean look... Lets compare it with another popular MMO on Steam. Warframe. Both have a lot of grind and take a lot of time. HOWEVER! You can get everything in Warframe in 1-2K hours without paying any real money and there is never any sort of gate keeping or anything due to nature of its content (and the fact that game lets players get OP freely). Meanwhile in Lost Ark you are loking at double to triple of ammount of hours to catch up with the "meta" (gems, cards, iLvL, elixirs, armor quality, the new Thaemine upgrades, collections, etc.). And you face gatekeeping, lack of players for certain content (mainly older abyssal dungeons and such) and in next update you are told "cool" heres another heavy RNG grind system for you... Have fun trying to get those 0,01% rolls on your stone/necklace/elixir or whatever else... And getting OP after all that grind and RNG? Yeah forget that one chief. You will be glad to be "decent". Now how does that sound to you? To me that sounds like a sisyphian labor and I am sure the same applies to most "casual" players which are what MMOs need to prosper. If Lost Ark wants to become popular it has to heavily cut down on RNG and let people feel strong (-> that would solve gate keeping in and of itself). And for players that want a challenge its not like Inferno/Extreme dificulties of content dont exist right?

That being said I can see how new players see the grind ahead and decide they would rather invest their time elsewhere. Additionally I think gatekeeping and lack of newer players having friends to learn the raids is probably a big deterrent as well.

For most of my friends that dropped game two aspect are always the same. First is progression it feels like trash, in other mmo mentioned as comparison (FF, WOW) progression is something achievable in multiple ways and you aren't cut out of content that you enjoy if you suck at Riding. Honing system is something that kills most of KR mmo in west because it always feels bad. In comparison to loot systems where you are excited about dropping that one BiS item lost ark is just restricted grind of mats that you burn thru in seconds as solo character 1620+ I get each day mats for about 2 taps. Second thing is that raiding quickly stops being fun and starts being chore that you need to do as fast as possible. For example for me Voldis was fun for 3 weeks and now it's boring and this was same for all older raids with exception of 3 raids Goat, Bull and Clown with to this day are most fun. Personally Theamine will be first raid that I won't be week 1 HM ready and mostly reason is I don't even want to do this raid as it looks unappealing.

As someone who quit at launch, tried to come back a little before Brelshaza was released, quit again before I even got my character up to a point I could do the legion raids, and am now kind of casually attempting to get back into the game (though dragon's dogma 2 has been taking up a lot of my time) I will attempt to tell you my personal experience. I will say there's a running theme with why I keep quitting and that theme is a bit of introversion and lack of being able to find a group that is on my level and that I can vive with. So when I first started I went pretty hard but slowly lost interest as we got into the more difficult content because there were people in our group that were aggravating to deal with. Our group was split up into 2 friend groups and for some reason the other friend group didn't want to hang out with us in discord or do anything with us besides the content they would be required to push with us. This created a bit of divide as we were playing the games at two different paces and it was difficult to get the groups together to do content. Then within my friend group there was one person in our group that would spend an entire raid just complaining. About the mechanics, about his class, about the game. And probably 70% of the time I'm in comms with him it was complaint after complaint. It really just aggravated the hell out of me and instead of finding a more consistent group with less complaining I just started playing something else. Then when I came back again I started playing with some friends who had never quit so they were way ahead of me. They would carry me through content on their alts. They'd help me figure out the horizontal progression stuff and what I needed to do to complete it. Eventually as I got my character up higher I was starting to see the gatekeeping. I couldn't get into PUGs because I didn't have the right engravings. because my roster level was too low, because I was an artillerist. My friends told me to swap to gunlancer which at the time was my main alt and I would get into groups better so I started playing Gunlancer but i didn't really like gunlancer that much because every other character can hop forward and it's just so difficult for me to change my mindset I can't hop forward. It made it really annoying trying to dodge mechanics and eventually with my day filled with horizontal progression and chaos dungeons and not being able to play the class that I loved I was just like nah and quit. Now I've seen they've released a lot of new classes, they added the horizontal progression so you can skim through that, they added a lot of quality of life stuff so I'm back. Every youtuber is like look at all the stuff they are giving you. But I'm returning, getting all this stuff, and extremely bottlenecked by lack of gold. How do you make gold in this game? Majority of your gold is made by raids from what I understand and running as many raids on as many alts as you can. Well I'm looking to do kayangel and what do I see on the group finder. Bus 12k. Bus 12k. Rerun. Rerun. Rerun. Now I'm like ok well I guess this game just requires a guild unless you're already at that level where everyone else is. So now I face the daunting task of trying to find people to play with.

They give all the events and power passes etc but they don't allow class change or solo practice major mech on raids which would be major selling points... So you don't join public parties until you feel confortable with mechs and if you spend 4 months pumping a character that past 1600 you figure out you just don't enjoy you should be able to swap that carácter at least 1 time to other class

I'm more surprised the game is where it is and not dead. It was on life support for a bit with a DNR but it did come back. I hope Lost Ark pops off again cuz I g2g'd a shit ton of money into it before getting a 3 month ban (totally worth it tbh I was expecting a year if not a permaban lol) halfway into the release of Vykas. Looking to maybe come back. I did milk the breaker event and honed my old main from 1540 to 1580 on the day of release for the first time since my ban but haven't logged back in again.

My personal opinion is that in the west, the community is cannabilizing itself. Gatekeeping has become so extreme and no love is shown to new players and if the hardcore players want this game to thrive, everyone needs to step it up and foster new players into the raiding experience. I’ve gotten a few friends to make an account and it’s always the same thing: make a char on express, tries to raid, gets gatekept for hours on end, can’t progress, has nothing to do, goes back to WoW where community is king.

There are 2 big ass problems with this game and most other mmos especially in this game. When the game stops holding your hand once you get to t3 your hit with so much shit. You have no clue what to do and spend hours trying to figure out what to do next. The second biggest problems are the in game systems they DO NOT NEED TO BE SO CONVOLUTED. Example take a look at bdo and compare it to this game lost ark has so many systems sub systems and mats I have no clue what the fuck anything even is. you have 19 different currencies, daily tasks to do. Let me name the systems real quick so you got gems, cards, engravings, gear honing, quality upgrading, skill runes, tri pods, ability stones, battle items. And each of those have a whole convoluted system in themselves. Once you get it. It’s easy but if it’s gonna take me 3-4 hours to really get down why even go that far when what the game has to offer isn’t that great. You can’t run old content as a new player no one’s doing them. Global chat is dead I can’t find any active guilds. I just returned to the game I’m doing the gear progression event and it’s like Jesus why would anyone want to play it when you need 6 different items to hone your gear 💀 bdo has been making efforts to change that just recently they’ve deleted different types of mats to reduce inventory clutter and make things easier. Tbh I really like this game the combat is fun and the characters are cool. But there is so much keeping casual players from doing anything in this game. If I got to watch multiple different guide videos on what to even do after elgacia chances are most people wouldn’t even bother and just drop the game at that point. Getting hit with tutorial after tutorial sucks. Did I mention inventory clutter? You your first chaos dungeon and you whole inventory just gets filled with a bunch of useless garbage. It’s nice that they give you power passes and help people catch up but it’s like they forgot about the beginning of game items you get so much useless shit my inventory’s are cluttered because I don’t know what to dismantle use or not use. Why does there need to be 19 different hp pots? Why can’t we just have one? There’s a lot wrong 💀 it’s not even about gear or getting gear. It’s about these convoluted systems/item management/ storage clutter/ multiple different currencies/ I love bdo because really there’s only one main currency which is silver. You can use silver to get pretty much everything in game with a few exceptions which are events/crafting.

Something as a newish player I've learned is there's nothing for you in the game socially until you hit like 1500+, I've tried talking to many guilds and none of them are taking new players in and it makes learning the ropes really hard. The game is super fun but there's a lot to learn, without a helping hand I think it can feel quite overwhelming and I'm certain most people who try the game never make it to the point where they're interacting with other players in a fun and or helpful way.

Raids are too hard and game is very grindy if you want f2p. Besides raids which are hard there is basically no other content to play for, there is also nothing what would teach new players raids without stress, if you do not have bunch of friends who will take care of you, you have no chance. I for example think that there should be some kind of LFR difficuilty where instead of wipe mechanics is only some big hit, or DPS debuff, simply something what punish players so they do not ignore mechs completely, but in same time it is not so punishing as raid wipe. We have those trial raids, but they do not drop same stuff as NM and HM, so noone really do them. Alternatively there could be so much requested single player content where can newbies learn stuff. I do not think that gatekeeping is problem of community, yes sometimes it is absurd, but game basically push players into it because of its demands. Also it is so hard to catch up, I got second roster which I started on jumpstart and even when I have there more or less metaclasses, they are not anywhere close to my main roster in damage (where I have literally most off-meta classes possible) due to many lacking sources of power like cards (sets and bonuses), gear+weapon qualities, accessory qualities (got mostly 70+), etc. etc. I basically have to run tier lower content to not be completely gatekept (e.g. on my 1600 ilvl I mostly run Kayangel NM, because with KLC 12 noone will accept me in HM with lack of supports), getting to Sonavel is also pain from same reason. I have no clue how should I build KLC besides dumb grind of old raids, there are not really catchup mechanics for such things. Oh and lets not forget on RNG everywhere, every system is RNG often without any pity protection. Just check those % data which KR government force companies to publish. Some effects on bracelets or elixirs have chances like 0,07% to roll - m-lostark.game.onstove.com/Probability/

Smilegate is NOT willing to change how the game functionx at its core : you will be stuck with doing content that is boring and you will have to go through RNG layers of gear progression just so you get access to the redeeming factor that is combat and competing in DPS. Literally nothing except for combat is in favor of Lost Ark.

I'm a constant player of WoW and XIV, and have come back to Lost Ark a few times when they put out a powerpass and I'll try a new class for a week or so. So those games are different of course but I'm at least adjacent to the target audience for this game. I always stop after not too long (although this time I'm having a lot of fun and am a little more invested) but the pay to win isn't really the issue, the game is just really difficult to get into, on a systems level, on a learning level, and an actual getting into groups level. There are so many systems in the game with a lot of bloat (not really the right word but sort of) within them and even if you follow a guide it's hard to figure out why you're choosing the things that someone is telling you to choose. Past that, you can do Chaos Dungeons and Guardian Raids for a week or two but that doesn't really force you to learn how to play your class or interact with fights in a raid setting. When I hit the point in gear progression where I should be joining groups for more difficult content the process feels too troublesome, but maybe I'm just going about it the wrong way. (Honing as a system is so dogshit that its shocking and I cannot imagine someone praising it in anyway, but I've come to accept it) Like I said I've been having more fun than usual this time coming back to the game so maybe I'll look a little deeper

I'm so sad I can't play this game, can't raid late game, gate keeping is crazy. I actually love the game, but I took a break, I come back and the game is basically unplayable. The game is nearly impossible for new and returning players to get into because no one wants to play with us. It's really that simple why this game can't be as popular as the bigger mmos. Edit: I could care less about the p2w aspect, and I took a break from the game because there just wasn't enough for me to do, I would get on, do dailies and basically be done. But I like to play my games and there's just not enough to keep me interested after my dailies. Doing raids is too much of a commitment. I have to waste time getting gatekept/gatekeeping so I can have a smaller chance of getting jailed, but I will still get jailed every now and then which will make me not wanna play anymore. Thanks to that I'm just postponing my raids until I have to do all of them at the end of the week and just burn out with every time something goes wrong. I already quit the game twice. I remember back when I started the game I would never do Guardians and I'm at the same point again. I'm not risking my sanity pugging Hanus anymore. If most of the game is about people executing mechanics then you need people capable of executing mechanics if you don't want to fail, so pugging is an awful experience and playing premade with capable people is also exhausting because good people will require you to play the best you can too at all times. My perfect middle ground would be playing with people who don't care about insane uptime, meaning they don't do high DPS, but are aware enough to not fail mechanics. Like I don't care about skip lobbies in Clown. I'm seriously fine with doing maze or m3 or m4, it's whatever. The problem is that if you play in a lobby like that you will jail infinitely, cause people who can't skip usually can't do the mechanics either. Hell most people who skip can't do mechanics too and they skip not to finish the raid quicker, but to avoid mechanics that would otherwise wipe them. I've no idea what I'm typing this wall of text for, but the conclusion I'm arriving at is - the game is too hard. Even if it isn't for you personally, then it is for other people that you have to play with. And while it can not matter sometimes, it can not even matter most of the time as you're getting smooth raids. A single time it matters and you get jailed is bad enough to feel horrible and averse to playing raids for a longer time. And since the best part of the game is the raids... well it makes you averse to playing the game whatsoever. Additionally the fact that to even get to experience these raids you need to dig through countless of their stupid fucking systems that are made to ensure your road to these raids is as miserable as possible (cards, honing, elixirs, transcendence) and you get the amazing mix of: you feel horrible trying to get to the raids (honing etc), you feel horrible getting into the raids (gatekeeping), you flip a coin to see if you feel great doing the raid (good party) or feel horrible doing the raid (jail), to repeat the cycle by unlocking another feel horrible system from the raid you completed (honing, 12 weeks to craft a set, elixirs, transcendence) to get to the next raid. Progging is awesome because you actually get to enjoy the game for an extended period of time. Until someone learns the raid cause then they're jailed and have to wait until others catch up. But how many players get to enjoy that? Most don't even get through the first hurdle (remember Argos honing at the start?) now the mokokos will never get through gatekeeping "oh but there's learning parties" yeah but what happens when they're DONE LEARNING? They will still never get accepted to a normal run. And they're stuck with getting jailed in learning lobbies with other people learning..? How is that fun?

Im a veteran MMO player and I played lost ark a lot when it released, however I can't get into it now because Im too lazy to learn all the dozens of systems upon systems upon systems of upgrading/enchanting/skill tree-ing etc. When you open the menu with ESC you literally have 30 tabs. Its ridiculously complex. And not in a good way. Just adds complexity for the sake of complexity. Also dont have dozens of hours to spend leveling alts and doing the same things over and over on alts to generate gold. If there is nothing left to do on main and you cant play only one character I call that bad game design. In other MMOs you have open world PvP with endless amount of fun/content that you can do when you're done with your daily pve crap. Lost Ark is an endless stream of grindy boring pve content that you must do on alts before you eventually reach the fun pve stuff that takes like 10% of your total time. Combat is very good but without pvp theres only so much it can do when all you do is the same ezmode pve crap all over again.

The community itself gatekeeps so hard for so many things, that it has actually killed itself in a sense. For many reasons, mind you. Gatekeeping is killing new/returning players. HOWEVER, you HAVE to gatekeep new and returining players - because they wipe the raid. There is no easy endgame content. Some people are 1580 and still can't kill Brelshaza. They HAVE to buy busses. And when you buy busses, you can't earn any gold. Wdym people are generally happy with the game ? you're talking about the handful of streamers that is their job to stream the game and outside of it they die like a fish. Lost Ark is fundamentally one of the worst mmos in the scene (People experience wise), not for the P2W aspect of it but rather for the 10 systems that are fundamentally BAD and still I feel like BAD is generous for it if there's an even worse term than that I could use, Cards, Gems, Different levels of upgrading gear and it takes months to upgrade a set outside of Express Event, Roster levels, these systems are fundamentally awful at their core. Breaker released and the game is still loosing 20 to 25% player base as the numbers shows and the game peaks at 55k on week ends and probably 10k or more of them are bots, thats a clear indication that the game sucks and its not a welcoming game for new players no matter what they do even if they keep giving them express every month that will never change as long as those systems I mentioned before are still in the game or at least at their current interation. Lets not forget the 6 gold cap and weekly lockouts are the reason why people FOMO and use the mentioned systems to make their life hard and make others quit the game, so its not only AGS and SG are responsable for this but also the players, but again if you put in place a system that encourage FOMO and at the same time give people multiple TOOLS to minimize the risk of loosing time by gatekeeping others then they will surely use them.

For many people gaming is an outlet to relieve stress. Lost Ark is not conducive to stress relief. Dailies are a chore and raids for many are too challenging or frustrating. Progging a new raid can be fun and exciting, but there can also be stress if you can't find a static group and have to wait in lobby for long periods of time, a luxury many people don't have. As fun as the combat is in Lost Ark, it will never appeal to a casual audience. If Lost Ark was an ARPG with interesting itemization and fun solo content, it would 100% dominate the ARPG market.

I played a little at launch and quit without getting very far. Picked the game back up around october 2023 because my friend asked me to play. I enjoy playing the game but honestly if I were not playing with my friend I think I would have quit months ago. 1. Raids are just too difficult. Raiding on ilvl sucks which is why people either bus or get gatekept. I don't mind wipe mechs but having them in normal difficulty makes the game too cut throat for most people. I get denied from NM g4 brel lobbies all day on my 1580 chars. My solution to this is make an easy raid difficulty which drops less mats but is a lot easier to clear. 2. RNG. I know its fun to have some rng aspect in the game but man theres just too many. Ability stones, honing, elixirs, card packs, and I'll throw fate embers in there too because they're supposed to make you feel good but I've learned to expect nothing from them. Honing non express characters is a complete waste of resources and im sure new players who might not be aware of express event will quit the game over it. Stone cutting is horrible when you are choked out of pheons. Cards suck because you're expected to have them when its all luck. 3. No fun things to do aside from raiding (if that). The game becomes a chore once you learn raids then you feel forced to do the same raids on your alt to get gold and push them further. That's fine but its not fun, especially for someone that wants to play the game casually. They need to add less sweaty content that you can chill and have fun doing. Horizontal content is not fun for some people.

As a returning player, I find the game very entertaining. But the game is based entirely on gold and it is very difficult to earn gold. This situation becomes even more difficult as we purchase raids due to gatekeeping. With the new event, we can bring one of our characters to acceptable levels, but this does not solve much of the problem. This week I tried for 3-4 days to do the Akkan raid (the problem is not not being able to do it, the problem is gatekeeping). I consider myself a decent player and I think I could complete Akkan if given the chance, but due to gatekeeping I had to pay 15k gold to complete it. This is very annoying for players who don't do enough P2W or have just started/returned. The same goes for my alt characters. My characters that are kept at 1460 ilvl are not allowed into the hard Valtan and hard Vykas lobbies. I really enjoy the game, but it seems like I'm close to quitting the game again for these reasons. I don't know what LA can do about this but the game is not a game for me right now. What's the point if I can't do any of the endgame content, which is considered the main event of the game?

Difficult isn't the right word for earning gold most of the time. You can earn 5-8k/hour infinitely by farming collectible items from region mob drops. You can party up and spread out more for even more gold. There is good money in lifeskilling for close to 10k/hour until you run out of energy. The near daily chaos gates are around 3k gold for 3-5 minutes. There's gem islands on weekends. Doing Sonavel is good gold rested. You can make a ton of money reselling accs in the AH like the recent breaker release. About 10k from unas, any raids that you do. Challenge guardians/abyssals. If you made a 1580 via the recent event you'll have a 5x3, decent gems. With the engraving support you can have a whole accessory lineup of 95+quality accs that have the stats you need. At this point all you need is a decent bracelet with 90+ on your 2 main stats and hopefully improved with the extra lines. For gems you will need 1 or 2 lvl.9 damage gems and make sure your armour quality is 70+ and weapon 80+ and that is all you would need to be accepted by some pug parties. This costs about 120-210k in NAW which would be 1-3 weeks if you wanted to do it. The easier and faster way imo is to join a guild and do the raid together. Plenty of guilds are recruiting now due to the server merges. Look for an active guild that focuses on guild runs over statics. They are unlikely to care about your gearing and just want to run things together and have fun. If you choose to pug you will have to beat the average person applying in some demonstratable categories or they will take others instead.

The root cause of the issue is the target audience. Lost ark caters to a hardcore audience which in 2024 is becoming more and more niche. There is no room for gamers that have a family or are just casuals that enjoy a multitude of different games. This is why games like WoW, Genshin, FFXV are so popular you can choose how to play and the game will respect you for it.

If they seriously want to succeed by expanding their target audience i think they could accomplish it with the following: - have an option to only do raids on single character for a slight reduced reward. - Normalize raids (to kill bussing) - reduce the impact of certain systems like cards. - reduce difficulty of normal raids or introduce a lower difficulty I could go on but feel these should have the most impact

A few reasons: 1. MMOs are that huge in the west especially new ones. Its tough to get that foot set in without some kind of history to hold players. FF14 had the entire final fantasy series behind it to attract players. That allure will always bring people in. 2. The grindy nature of KR mmos will always be off putting in the west. Its niche and most gamers here dont enjoy that kind of grind. 3. This is an mmo problem in general but its very hard to get people to play other games once they found that one they fall back on.

@@otoanskye The game relaunched because it was shit but you can't deny having a big IP does help with initial numbers and helping get new players. Someone can play FF16 and then decide to try out FF14.. Doesnt matter if they stay as they still tried it. Lost Ark has nothing like that. I dont think this point is hard to grasp.

Not only that, it's boring after finishing your weekly raid, what do you actually do to have fun after raids, in ffxiv i can have fun by doing raids, farming mounts, farming glams and the crafting is surprisingly fun, we have multiple ways to earn gil, the same can be said about wow, but what about lost ark? You can't raid after lockout, you can do guardian and chaos dungeons, but get get nothing out of it, there barely a crafting system with daily stamina, you know, its kinda funny but archeage was a better game even with all its faults

much of Lost Ark is actually an easy fix. first, make Honing NOT a chore, and REMOVE RNG FOR FUCKS SAKE. When you grind out the resources for an upgrade YOU GET THE FUCKING UPGRADE. PERIOD END OF STORY, NO NEGOTIATION. I don't care who can tolerate what, bad game design is bad game design. The moment the devs decided that ANY form of progression was to be locked behind MONEY WALLS is the moment they doomed their game to elitism, bots, toxicity and all the bs plaguing it today. Now with the worst bits out of the way, NOW we can start figuring out how to streamline and teach the incredibly demanding and technical character building systems and combat systems to new players. This is where I am open to ideas and negotiation. Do not underestimate a gamer's ability to learn and grow and find guides. But also do not make them feel like if they make one mistake they're shooting themselves in the foot. Lost Ark is so difficult and so competitive that, as a mediocre player with 600 hrs and 1477 as my highest ilvl, it feels like there is no correct decision. I constantly make new characters, grind them for a little while, have no idea what I'm doing and delete them. Even with guides. I am required to use a powerpass or spend gold on a knowledge transfer just to experiment and figure out if I like a class, and then I have to do the same stuff over and over again, and nothing matters anymore with it. Since I know the endgame is so punishing I feel like I need to find perfection before I am allowed to attempt to step into those arenas.

The biggest issue hands down in this game is the barrier to entry in this game. Think about it this way would you ever recommend someone completely new to the game trying this game outside of an event going on like the breaker event? Answer: HELL NO! Also on top of that even if someone tries the game during one of these major events, which only happen like twice a year the amount of gatekeeping this new player will experience is quite overwhelming having no cards or roster lvl being among the two major issues they can do nothing about quickly.

I was like whats the point i am just moving from one hamster wheel to another. and to play endgame without gatekeeping you have to spend a good chunk of money and have to keep spending for the forseeable future everytime they release more endgame content. For a casual thats not streaming or making money from the game i see no reason to play the game.

glaring problems: 1.lost ark is a combat simulator attached with a large structure of monetization. you are wooed by the fluent and stylish combat, but then immediately you are hit with monetization. pay up now or suffer. 2.chores. daily chores(chaos, guardian) or weekly chores(raids). 6x endless chores. 3.raids: new players can't even do raids because raids are too hard or they got gatekept too hard. 4. what's fun? new raid, but it is not fun at 60th attempt. right now, most of remaining players would fall into a few categories: jobless, students, heavy p2w, streamer. other types players not mentioned here are forced to be casual and are very likely on their way out.

Why is it dying? Simple, because Smilegate implements rng system on top of rng system and those systems also cost a lot of gold to do. Not only honing your gear with low % of success becomes hard, but also not having enough gold to gear your characters. Elixirs should be nerfed to the ground, they also take forever to craft, and then you even get asked, "Do you like it?" Imagine needing a specific set part to appear to get your set to level 40 that never appears. It's just 120k gold per week in one character to craft elixirs. If that was not enough, when you think you are done, here comes another rng system. The game is badly designed, and it will eventually die if it continues bleeding players as it is. I know a lot of players who quit with Thaemine. Now add to that doing all your raids, plus dailies. You know what? I'm going to go back to Final Fantasy 14 when the next expansion comes out.

Newbies don't like getting jailed for 2hrs+ as well 😂 the raids are just too hard in general. Until there's massive nerfs; it's gonna be hard for new comers. Most new players haven't watched a single guide. They legit blind prog raid and expect to clear it or hope to find a group to carry them. There's a rare few that actually learn but there's only 3-4 of them and they don't wanna get jailed by new people, too. Gatekeep will exist in any game, but lost ark isn't casual friendly. There's always diablo4 for casuals who just want to infinite chaos dungeon. It is what it is. Even dailies are challenging for new people. They're dying to hanu as 1580s. People expect lost ark to be a hack and slash but get a rude awakening when they find out it's mechanic-heavy for a majority of anything to do with progression. That's why people enjoy akkan nm. I see 1620s doing nm all the time because they can just phase boss and clear raid with 4 people alive. 😂

I never played Lost Ark, and I kinda want to, but everytime I watch a KZread video that reviews the game, it's almost always bad. Shame because I wanna play a deathblade and dash around the map killing shit. But if endgame has massive problems then why. People tell me I will not be able to raid or do dungeons or whatever because I don't swipe or because I don't play support. So if these are not issues then maybe I will play.

Biggest problem is and will be that the content requires too much effort and not eeeeeeveryone is a hardcore player in the west. People here are not and wont be as sweaty as koreans, thats why casual games are more popular. They could get away by making normal mode raid the casual friendly content so the majority of the people can play these raids/dungeons, while keeping hard and hell the meta content with wipe mechanics, etc. But again the game is already at its peak, it wont get new players, it has already a fame of being filled with bots, toxic players and RNG. And thats ok, the ones that are still playing are gonna be the daily players, i honestly dont get why is this debate of new players still going on, the game wont grow because its niche, it was not designed for the west, Amazon did a really bad research about the expectations of their playerbase before releasing the game.

imho the reason why mmo are not doing great in today industry is that they pull out lazy content while pretending insane time and money sink. so many mmo keep recycling the same stuff over and over. modern mmorpg need to focus more on releasing content fast. and it also need to have some novelty!! . -so releasing another cube or chaos gate/dungeon copy mode won't do. i wonder what the fk they do with the money budget they get from whales... a lot of raid even share the same mecs / line of code.... like typing, pizza, clash, Basically they take half a year just to do the aesthetic of the raid... and in the case of valtan extreme is not even that... literally a few health and dmg modifier and 2 line of extra code. meanwhile games like genshin impact get full continent worth of content every year. and a new extra piece of map every 2/3 patch.... if that game had an endgame would have been the perfect mix lol. also yes it is for the pay2win. ironicaly enough in genshin impact once you get your character and gear weapon it will never get downgraded or devalued much like people have this stigma for gacha games but they don't realize that if they would spend the same amount of money that u need for an esther weapon in lost ark u would have THE ENTIRE CAST of char at max constellations lmao. and again.. what you posses will never be "time disrespected" with a gear reset or nerf or what not. imho the era of breaking gear piece like in black desert or the 8 milion gold grind sink for a weapon in lost ark are over. Mmorpg need to get the shit togheder and reinvent themself. there are other reasons but this comment is already long enough.

It is a great game but on west it needs to be less grindy. Latest content should always be easy achievable so if you have 1630 raid comming out they shpuld support players to achieve 1620 easy. Again too much alts, limit gold earning to 18 raids no matter how much chars so if someone wants he can do all in 2 chars or 3. That would be much more pleasing for casuals. I have main and main alt i want do all raids on them and take gold, it is cringe to have 3 more alts just to gather gold. Example you do Akkan, brell, voldis, kaya and clown on 3 chars and take all gold on them. If someone wants max gold hone 18 1620 chars and do akkan or theamine only.

MMOs are suppoused to be fun. Lost ark is fun, but many players especially veterans dont play for the fun. Prime example is clowns technical ilvl is 1540. Why? Because you can skip m3/m4. It's fun to do mechanics, its fun to do raids. Sadly this game is all about fomoing and being ahead of others. Everything is done over ilvl to skip mechanics. One wipe is an instant remake or jail. The lost ark mentality is that wipes are not allowed. You can learn a raid but it doesnt matter, just like how clown has a minimum ilvl, roster level is the real gatekeep. Minimum roster level required to be cool is 201. I am a witness to this, I hit 200+ before even doing brel. New players will never have a good time, your forced to have a friend who can make sure your taken care of. Your forced to find someone who is roster 200+ that allows u to play the game. Roster level needs to be removed from the game, thats all is required. Source? Me. I experienced gatekeeping below roster 200, and when i hit 200+ i went from getting gatekept 70% of the time to i say about 20%. Roster level is the only one true evil. If everyone is a same mmo indivudual, you can truly enjoy a game that is meant to be played and not a game that is only meant for high roster veteran mech skippers.
