Jen, the black powder you are seeing may be coming from the walking foot. Because the metal parts rub each other, it produces the black powder. To remedy this, you need to apply some oil to the walking foot just like you would to the sewing machine.

Glide is pretty good thread, it works great for sewing bags using vinyl, cork, water proof canvas and cotton. The black can look a little squiggly in cotton but it looks beautiful for topstitching in vinyl or cork. I haven’t quilted with it yet though. I don’t know what kind of walking foot you are using ( Juki brand?) but if you check over at Juki Junkies KZread, they have a video on how to deal with walking foot making your fabric dirty, I think they have you oil it, so metal on metal not grinding together causing black particles. My machine is. Juki TL 2020PE, no room for an industrial, so I didn’t get one but I love my Juki.

I have been using Glide in my long arm for years. Love it. I have also used it in my machine embroidery. Not used it for piecing though.

Hi Jen! I’ve heard good things about Glide Thread. I haven’t used it myself yet. Thank you for the review.

Glide is excellent. I use it exclusively for embroidery. Have also used Glide for quilting. I always use size 14 top stitch needles with it.

For the dirty fabric issue, I had the same problem with that style of walking foot on my Brother machine. It turned out that there was some grease/lubricant from inside the walking foot leaking out.

I use Glide thread and also the magna glide bobbins on my APQS longarm and have not used any other brand. I have no problems and it does have a beautiful sheen. It is made in the USA 🇺🇸

My juki haruka walking foot (fairly brand new) blew a gasket (?) and leaked grease onto my quilt. Had no idea what was going on, set it aside about a month, after digging around on-line found that the walking foot needed oiling. I took it apart and oiled everything that moved, set it on a paper towel a few days , wiped it off and was able to keep using it 🎉 Also tried Glide on haruka, no luck, cou9get a bobbin wound, too slick it seemed, ah sad face.

I’ve had issues with after market walking feet causing marks on my fabric. I think it’s something rubbing inside the box of the walking foot deposits something on the fabric. Or it may be oils inside the box. I use glide for bag making and almost everything else. I like aurifil for piecing.

I love Glide! I have over 130 colors plus the magnaglide bobbins. Love not having a lot of lint in my machine. It’s awesome for embroidery and quilting. And their Cairo line of 50 wt cotton threads is greater for piecing. The magnet side is supposed to be against your bobbin case. I have a juki TL18 and was told by the dealer to do this. Some people say to remove the backlash in the case but I’ve had no problems leaving it in. The bobbins will last a long time because they’re wound tighter than you can wind it. For that reason, I love using it in FMQ. Glad you found Glide! The color chart is awesome but I don’t think they have a current one. They’ve been releasing a lot of new colors lately. I love the chart to help me find the right colors in embroidery. Comes in handy.

I mostly garment sew and try to match my thread to my fabric. If I cannot do that, my go-to is gray. Gray seems to blend in with almost everything right? Glide thread looks interesting. I like the colors in your curated bundle as well.

I love, love, love Glide thread and have quite a few colors. My longarm, however, throws a tantrum every time I try to use it ... I tinker with the thread path, take tension above and below all the way down and back up, change needles, change bobbin thread type, clean & oil, talk to, sing to, and threaten my machine, and end up going back to "repair" all of the places it broke, skipped, knotted, or shredded. I have been trying other threads, but sadly, they don't have the sheen and intense color the Glide has. My regular machine, a Pfaff, also had issues with Glide, but the recurrent shredding was cured by using topstitching needles, a thread stand with a net, and extra "loops" in the thread path with the spring end of safety pins taped onto the machine.

Glide good for quilting if you want it to show on the quilt top. It’s a bit slippery so I run it through tension disks twice. I don’t piece with it, too expensive.

The Hab & Dash site is only for wholesale customers (ie: businesses) so the general public can't order there. The color card book retails around $20, but it's not something I plan to sell in the shop right now.
