Why Is This Shot So Difficult?? | 8 Ball | Michael Scerri

Object balls near Pockets can be extremely difficult to get position from. Yes the pot is easy but don’t be fooled.
In this episode, I explain why it can be difficult and Ways you can make it easier.

From my observations people tend to experience these shots as 'hard' because they lack they're attention to detail due to complacency. Because the ball pots very easily they tend to lose focus on how much of the target ball they're striking & miss the position from under/over hitting the amount of the target ball that they actually intended. Depending on the table that I am on (different jaws) I tend to just tap these in & take my medicine from 2-3 inches off the rail into the centre pocket. If you don't take the pot for granted & maintain focus then these pots are as easy as they should be

Yeah correct mate and this is exactly why players can’t hit the pack ( break ) correctly because the target looks big.

But that's harder to control. Drag seems the easiest, esp from distance, ie over half the table. So no I disagree entirely. Depending on rails and amount of side spin involved, your idea is nearly my least favorite of all the options.

I don't play snooker but am thrilled to find other, 'dirtier', quicker to calculate one and 2 and 3 rail kicking systems. Thanks Michael!

I always beat myself about not get good position from a “pocket hanger”. I’m glad you said it was a difficult shot. Looks like drag is the way to go. The other thing is that you have to be so precise where you hit the object ball and not get lazy with your aim just because it is hanging over the pocket 👍

Myself I would play with a bit of drag on white ball to slow up the ball before making contact with yellow so it only just comes of the bottom cushion with slightly.

Tbh most players end up in this situation so the opponents ball cannot squeeze past yours therefore it does arise a lot, what would be interesting if you could explain the options when your opponent puts their ball covering yours at the pocket "excluding skillshots" as it can lead to both players wanting snookers, cheers!

What pocket were you planning on shooting the black into with most of these? It wasn't that clear. Personally I tend to play the ball gently to leave the black on to the middle, but would love to hear if there's a better way of playing them.

Honestly I never had a plan and maybe I should have kept the black out of the picture but the real problem here is how hard it is to get any position on any ball on the table when playing a ball over the pocket. 👍

  • @ianirvine414

I think your drag shot is the best option. Getting position to pot the black in the centre pocket is almost a certainty. With other shots getting position is a bit more chancy.

Thanks for watching …. The black may have confused the situation but this video was more about not leaving your last ball to get onto the black because of the difficulty of getting position on your next ball. Basically if I moved the 8 ball up closer to the bulk end it would be difficult to get position on it from your last ball deep in the pocket.

I would probably play right hand side. Too soft, i have a shot in the middle, too hard then a shot in the same pocket.

kzread.info/dash/bejne/X5eTxdiGqJXYpc4.html Niels Feijen has a great video about this. Key tip is if you have to leave a hanger as last ball then you need to play the correction position on it.

Not sure what this video is trying to help with. You have shown several ways to pot the ball which is difficult to miss, but getting on the black is the difficulty of the shot. Which you did not do.

  • @MichaelScerri147

The video is just showing how a simple shot can be quite hard to get position not just on the black but any ball in general. Basically the player needs to concentrate fully on where they are hitting the object ball not just hitting it because it’s near the pocket which so many players do. Cheers thanks for watching 👌🏼

@@MichaelScerri147 Thanks for taking time out to reply Michael. I do understand what you are saying, and I agree. I guess using the black ball was misleading as I assumed you wanted to gain position on the black. As a separate comment. I watch a lot of videos regarding 8 ball pool. I have my own table and practice a lot. (I am also 66 so not getting much better 😄) but the level you, and most of the trainers advise on is at a higher level than most people who watch your videos can only dream about. When you talk about run out patterns for example, I have trouble seeing the pattern to start with. Another point is normal players do not have the capability to break the pack like you guys do. Hence there is always clusters of balls stuck together. Please try and come up with some ideas, routines, or strategies that a normal pub player or senior players could find useful. Keep up the videos though.

@@nicklawley7773 I have done a few breaking videos also check them out. I appreciate the feedback and you watching my videos my to tell you the truth 99% of players biggest problems are running the balls out (mapping) so all you can do it start trying and i promise you will improve. 👌🏼
