    I owned one. The 600 is highly compromised for various reasons. The cabin is small, and getting into the pilots seat is crazy difficult. I had to go in backwards and twist around and I’m only 175 pounds and 5’ 10”. The Garmin 3000 would not upload the database updates every month and I had to spend hours and hours on the phone with Garmin and Jefferson to force through the updates. Range is very compromised once you have more than 2 on board including the pilot with baggage. And the nose wheel issues made me paranoid. If you don’t already know, the nose wheel has an usually high failure rate should the pilot have a heavy landing or makes an excursion. This is a huge issue when the engine is running! Moral of the story… never change a design originally for a piston and produce a turbine version. I sold it after 6 months.

    Looks and performs great. "Popular" is a relative term. At about $2M, there aren't that many around. It's out of reach of the vast majority - even the vast majority of pilots/owners.

    It’s $3M, not $2M. That’s still $1M+ less than most SETP’s like E1000GX, TBM, PC12NGX or Denali. At 35 units in annual sales, its substantially less popular than all of those SETP’s. Honestly, the difference in operating and finance costs between the M600 and a TBM930 is negligible on annualised basis. If $1M difference is the deciding factor, you’re probably already out of your budget and better suited to a used C340, C421 or TBM700/850. Since introduction of Vision Jet, I’m honestly surprised Piper can still sell any M600’s. By turbofan standards the Vision Jet is slow, short range and limited full fuel payload. It however outperforms the M600 in every aspect for less $$. If my aircraft budget were limited to $3M, the M600 would not be a consideration due to its slow speed and very limited full fuel payload. I’d buy a low hours late model TBM850 everyday of week and twice on Sunday

    @@MichaelM-to4sg "Since introduction of Vision Jet, I’m honestly surprised Piper can still sell any M600’s." Thats what I was thinking. The Cirrus Vision, Starts 714 and the Flors LAR 01 are on another level and imho in time will take over. I think Piper is still saved by the fact that the development of the new aircrafts takes so much time (the LAR01 - my personal favourite - is still pre-production) and that production capacity of the jets is very limited

    There are many turbo prop planes now that are faster and cheaper to fly than private jets. Partly thinks to the PT6 patent running out about 21 years ago. Suddenly there were really fast 4-5 seat carbon fiber rockets flying around. About the same time Fed Ex bought 200 Cessna Caravans saving the company's but.

    That's why I don't put much stock in the so-called maximum range that the manufacturer quotes. Depending on the strength of one's bladder, I compute the range as 3-4 hours times the planes cruise speed. I think that is a much more realistic range.

    Sorry but you sound like a troll. Are you a pilot or do you often fly private? These aircraft have pee tubes though most of us who fly carry a pee bottle. The only reason for a potty is to defecate which if you know your body, don’t suffer from a bowel disorder and plan your meals, is not an issue. There are certainly aircraft with potty’s but they are usually much larger with considerably longer range. Closest in size would be the TBM which has optional potty but it’s range is nearly double the M600 unless you’re flying solo or very limited payload to allow a full fuel load.

  • @hawkdsl

    @hawkdsl

    Maximum range is important in case you run into weather thats just being a bitch, and you end up having to find an alternate for the alternate. Just about everyone can deal with 3 hour flights, then a break (when you have pax). Solo of course, you can stretch that out. Never underestimate the value of a couple of empty Snapple bottles. ;)

    Lacks payload & speed for such duty. The cargo door width would also constrain access. The Otter or Caravan surpass its payload & capability for back country usage while TBM, E1000, PC12NGX and Denali surpass in payload, range & speed. That mission profile would require at minimum the capacity for pilot, 2 EMT’s, patient and medical gear. The M600’s very low MTOW results in very limited fuel range to fit that required payload. The slow cruise of M600, while disappointing by SETP standards, would be acceptable given its relatively low price, it’s very limited MTOW is what kills the sales of this aircraft and severely limits its mission profile.

    By what definition? Despite the updated wing design, it remains lowest full fuel payload in class. Poorest range and slowest in class. It’s only benefit is it’s lowest price in class. For those of us in market, the appeal of $3M for a new SETP loses its appeal when one considers its performance. The simple fact is TBM and E1000GX are considerably faster and more capable for just 25% more cost and TBM holds its value far better. Even the Cirrus jet is far more appealing and far less $$. It only lacks cabin class seating but the M600 is so tight and it’s full fuel payload so little, it’s hard to consider that a differentiating factor.

    AWESOME Aircraft! But I HAVE a 2 PART QUESTION.... It's $130 an hour for midlife engine inspection at 1800Hours which EQUALS $234,000. Then after another 1800Hours, the engine is due for a complete overhaul at $200,000. **That DOESN'T INCLUDE an additional 234k as in the 1st midlife inspection correct?? For example, $200k Overhaul PLUS the 1800Hour midlife inspection at 234k? I would assume NOT obviously Because you're doing a complete engine overhaul & it's no longer Midlife engine hours but Full-life engine hours at 3600Hours, so why would it?? Or is there an additional inspection fee ontop of the 200k Overhaul but substantially lesser than a midlife inspection fee..?? NOW The 2nd PART to that QUESTION is.... ** If a complete engine overhaul at 3600Hours is 200K BUT a MIDLIFE 1800mile inspection is 234K ($130/hour +1800hrs) then WHY NOT just do a complete overhaul at the middle 1800Hour mark (even though there's still half engine life AFTER a inspection) * Then come the 1st 1800Hour MIDLIFE INSPECTION, Why not just do a complete OVERHAUL after 1800Hours for $34,000 less at 200K Compared to a midlife inspection at $234,000??? Why is the Midlife Inspection $34K MORE than a entire engine Overhaul??? Someone with three knowledge, please throughly answer that 2part question of mine. I'm deeply curious. Thanks

    Those are serious questions for a KZreadr whose facts in the video are all screwed up. First off, good luck finding a brand new M600 SLS for less than $3M, and nobody quotes speed in kilometers, it's either knots or miles per hour. There are a bunch of sites to get estimated hourly costs, but even those will change dramatically depending on fuel cost and number of hours flown. There are fixed costs that have to be taken into account, like hangar, insurance, pilot training, etc, and there are also variable costs like fuel, airport usage fees, hourly engine maintenance programs, among others. Check sites like Aircraft Cost Calculator or Conklin & Decker. You'll find basic info there, but subscriptions are required to get more detailed estimates. In general, if you were to fly the M600 for like 450 hours, expect to budget an hourly cost of around $750 per hour. This covers both fixed and variable costs.

    So popular, by what definition? They sell around 35 units annually. That’s less than 40% of PC12NGX sales globally. Similarly that’s 40% of Cirrus Jet sales. It’s actually less than TBM sales despite Daher production line being shuttered for several months due to supply issues. Once Epic gets near full capacity, they too will surpass M600 sales and when Textron’s Denali is certified, it too will surpass the M600. The more relevant question is why has Piper not re-engineered this aircraft? The M600 updated wing design over M500 was not enough to make this aircraft competitive. It’s full fuel payload is lowest in class. It’s cruise speed also worst in class, same with range. Compared to our C340 w/Ram VII, why would I spend $3M for less full fuel payload and gain less than 40 ktas in cruise speed at 30% more fuel usage? We’ve ordered the E1000GX, yes it’s a higher priced but it’s 50% better range, 50% higher full fuel payload and 75 ktas higher cruise. I’m honestly surprised they’re able to sell 35 units annually. I rarely see them in air or ground around here.

    @@scottrichmond3400 My question is. Why does marketing not only with planes but with yachts. Sales will use SM rather than NM. Maybe 28 SM per hour sounds better than NM. when showing a boat the buyer sees a higher number. Small jets are always advertising with SM. Seems a little dishonest and sneaky.

    You’re probably alone in that assessment. The M500 was of course a renamed Meridian, essentially the PA46 airframe w/PT6A replacing the problematic Lycoming motor. While the similarly problematic pressurisation system was updated, as were avionics, the Meridian/M500 still had a 35 year old airframe with inefficient wing design that offered very limited MTOW by modern SETP standards. The M600 wing update not only offered increased cruise speed, it dramatically increased MTOW, still well behind the TBM and now E1000GX and Vision Jet but a vast improvement over M500. It’s hard to imagine a mission profile where the M500 equals or surpasses the M600, maybe short range bush pilot duty but there are of course Otters and Caravans far more capable for such duty. I’m not a fan of anything Piper except the old Aerostar and Cheyenne 400LS but choosing between Meridian/M500 and M600, I choose the latter everyday of week and twice on Sunday

    Awesome aircraft. But with all this hype to the plane there is one bad thing. The entry for the pilot to the cockpit seat is made for circus athletes. And it’s not a joker for the pilot to get out easily from the pilot seat through the cabin. Even in case of an emergency landing. So here is the only disadvantage of the Piper M600. But a big one. In my opinion.
