Well ... not really. The blue color really has nothing to do with temperature. It deals more with the physical wavelength of the light. Blue has a much smaller wavelength that red, and thus it passes through the water better.

The water may turn greenish, reddish, or brownish. The chalky scales that cover coccolithophores color the water milky white or bright blue. Scientists use these changes in ocean color to estimate chlorophyll concentration and the biomass of phytoplankton in the ocean.

One thing I don't understand... Why such a good and informative video like this has so much lower views?? I don't know "jack" about producing a video but I know that it cost money to do it like the crew, filming gear, traveling, location, editing, post producing, converting, etc, etc. Is it bad promotion? Or is something that science need to explain why.

Back when I used a CRT, for some reason the red color stopped working. The end result was exactly like this ocean depth. Reds were black. With a strategic slap on the top, the reds came back momentarily. Eventually the slap frequency had to be increased to keep bringing back red and then finally it permanently went away.

The intrinsic color of liquid water may be demonstrated by looking at a white light source through a long pipe that is filled with purified water and closed at both ends with a transparent window. The light turquoise blue color is caused by weak absorption in the red part of the visible spectrum. For most substances, absorptions in the visible spectrum are usually attributed to excitations of electronic energy states. However, water is a simple 3-atom molecule, H2O, and all its electronic absorptions occur in the ultraviolet region of the electromagnetic spectrum and are therefore not responsible for the color of water in the visible region of the spectrum.

So why does it appear grey in ocean if it absorbed all spectrums other than red? Shouldn't it be like no colour at all or become black I presume, what's making it grey and not black? It must be reflecting some spectrum which is making it appear grey (is it the very little red spectrum that might be available at those depths?)

  • @robnelsonfilms

+Amrutha D Actually, shorter wavelengths have more energy. Hey, I don't know how to rationalize the physics - but that is how it works. The light often gets absorbed as heat - that's why black cars heat up faster than white ones (which reflect more of the light). They don't store it in the form of light - it get's converted.

In the sky, blue light is scattered by dust and what-not in our atmosphere. It's called Rayleigh Scattering. Short wavelength light is scattered more, so blue and violet is what you see the sky as. Since the cones in our eyes (which see color) can't detect violet as well as blue, we perceive the sky only as blue. Birds, whose eyes have developed to better see (ultra)violet colors better probably perceive the sky as such. The colors that are absorbed by the particles in the sky are not seen, because their light has been absorbed. Think of it like a sponge. If you absorb water, you're gathering it up, and you can't see it any more.

I made a huge discovery. I named my theory THE 3 Circle Theory and discovered and invented by Jovanni Alvarez, Concerning Colors and musical pitches and time. In the circle of colors there are 12 colors. There are also 12 notes in the circle of 5ths and 4ths. And a clock has 12 hours dividing day and night there are also 12 months in a year. In the bible 12 represents Gods government. Next is 7 perfection there are 7 days in a week there are 7 colors in a rainbow and 7 notes in a scale, even a pentatonic scale has 7 half steps. Next is 3 trinity what 3 things make time Future, Past, And Present. What 3 things make colors the primary colors red, blue, and yellow. And finally what three things make music that would be rhythm, melody, and harmony. So lets zoom out God in the alpha and omega begging and end (time). Jesus is the light (colors) of the Earth and God made the rainbow as a sign to show the world that he we would never punish the entire planet using water. Thats why when Jesus said let the children come to me he was talking about himself colors the light of the Earth. Jesus can also see what you do light is moved by 3 things protons, neutrons, and electrons. The Father, Son, and The Holy SPirit.
