    Central America is part of North America. It's a Region name, I guess. Kind of like "West Coast" and "The South" in the United States. And yes, Mexico is part of North America and not associated with Central America. Central America is comprised of (from North to South) Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama. Also, Panama's capital is Panama City. Since we are at it, why not make a video on why Central America is called that and not just lumped together with the rest of North America?

    In fact, there are three Mexicos. 1-The country. 2-The state of Mexico (is a state of Mexico called the state of Mexico is somewhat repetitive). 3-Mexico City (the capital of the country) The city of Mexico is the original Mexico, so to speak, since the country adopts its name, since before it was called the new Spain and its capital was Mexico.

    We shouldn't but early 16th century men, whose ancestors had fought an 800 year war of reconquest for their land, were a little less forgiving about that sort of thing. Since, I don't think that you or I are way above average in humanitarian beliefs, I am pretty sure that we would also be pretty average back the and wouldn't have minded the destruction. That is, unless you can magically transport yourself as you are now, trained and educated in the 20th or 21st century, back to that time. You would, certainly be way above average to others of that period. You would also not last very long.

    Der Boss Very simple (and self explanatory). United States of México, tells you that there is an Union in the country of México. As for United States of America, it only tells you that, it is an Union in the American continent.✌️

  • @Cyb0rgLP

    @Cyb0rgLP

    6 жыл бұрын

    +Luyz That still doesn't change the fact that Mexico isn't named Mexico. What you are saying is that everybody gets the same information from Mexico and USM, which is totally missing the point about calling a country by its official name or not. However if that is your argument, the same goes for the USA. There has not been on instance where I could have confused these two. Most times you have context.

    Great video as always! As for the pronunciation of Huitzilopochtli --not bad! you gotta remember tho that "h" is always silent in Spanish so instead of "hweets-ee-low-poached-lee" it's more like "wheats-ee-low-poached-lee" (or just weets-ee-low-poached-lee if you pronounce the "wh" in words like "which" and "whine" different from "witch" and "wine") also the "x" sounded like a "sh" sound so "meh-she-co" rather than the modern spanish pronunciation "meh-he-co" tho both are probably fine if you ask a mexican

    Don't worry too much about how to pronounce Aztec god names, most Mexicans don't pronounce them right either. But your pronunciation makes them sound funnier. By the way, it is worth knowing that Aztecs refereed to themselves as Mexicas, due to their devotion to the God of war. The word Aztec was the name other tribes and cities called them. The word Aztec comes from Aztlan, the ancient city the Mexicas were supposed to come from, before the construction of Tenochtitlan. Oh, and the Aztec language is known as Nahuatl, it is still used today in different parts of Mexico.

    Hi, great video bur there are a few things I may be able to clarify: first the Aztecs founded Tenochtitlán where they did because (according to the legend) a priest was told a dream by the god Huitzilopochtli that they must settle in the place where they found an eagle eating a snake on top a cactus, that here we call “nopal”. A very common story is that the priest was called Tenoch and Tenochtitlán meant city of Tenoch but that has been proven not case, just an interesting story. Second: Mexicas is the correct name for the people of Tenochtitlán, let me explain: Very similar to the Jewish conception, the Mexicas were the chosen people of a god, in this case of Huitzilopochtli. The Mexicas were the oppressed inhabitants of Aztlán Chicomóztoc, and the latter mistreated their macehuales (the common class and most of the population), and this oppressed people were liberated by Huitzilopochtli. The god, then, orders them to leave Aztlán and undertake a long journey to find their "Promised Land." They did not think of themselves as Mexica until when they stopped on their pilgrimage: “In the hole of a very large and thick trunk they made a hole to place the effigy of their god there. When this was done, they began to eat: somewhat loudly, a great noise was heard suddenly and the tree broke in the middle. Having that happen as an omen, the protective god through the priest Huitzitl, then ordered his people to turn away from the other groups or Nahuatlacan tribes and mudara by name.” (León Portilla, Los Aztecas: Disquisiciones sobre un Gentilicio www.revistas.unam.mx/index.php/ecn/article/view/9231/8609) The Aubin Codex states: And right there, they changed their name from the Aztecs. Huitzilopochtli said: Now the Aztecs will no longer be your name, you will be Mexica. So the Mexicas took their name. Thus, the name of Mexicas was assigned to them as a sign of liberation before the Chicomoztoca Aztecs.

    I haven’t seen any comment regarding this (my bad if this was already told): Mexico’s official name is Estados Unidos Mexicanos or Mexican US (because why not?) and the capital’s official name was Federal District. This was changed a couple of year ago and the name is now Mexico City but still, the name is not the same as the country. We share similarities to what happened to the USA that are now commonly named America in most English speaking countries but their official name was based on the fact that their are located in the American continent and not that their territory was to be named America.
