Good points, many of which we'd already picked-up on. But (as a retired couple) our preference is to stay centrally, so we're happy (enough) to pay CBD hotel prices. But we always use the MRT to get around, and for eating we'll mix things up - some restaurants, some hawker centres, and for lunch we'll pick up buns and pastries from the shops in the underpasses around the MRT stations. One thing we never cracked, and that's a source of cheap, western-style coffee. We did try kopi (and kopi-c) but that's a just different drink; and of course we found that a western-style latte or cappuccino is a lot more expensive. Any suggestions?

It's tough to find western coffee under $6. Takeaway is often cheaper as you don't get hit with 10% service charge. These are the ones I'm familiar with: - Generation Coffee Roasters is $3.60 for latte/cappuccino - so cheap because they're in hawker centres (Tekka and Hong Lim are the closest to CBD areas, but Bedok also has an outlet) - Wakey Wakey on Beach Rd is $5.50 - Forword Coffee Roasters on Orchard Rd is $6 - Kōhī Roastery & Coffee Bar (Joo Chiat Rd) is also $6 - Tiong Bahru Bakery you can get under $6 if you bring your own cup for takeaway, otherwise the price is just over $6 (quite a few outlets now, including Plaza Singapura).

@@reachingsingapore Thanks! We’ll be back in March and we’ll investigate. But we do enjoy sitting down in a coffee shop - we especially enjoyed a couple of visits to Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf in Bugis Junction. I know, it’s a chain, but it was good coffee….

Accomodation is really expensive. Food and transpo are reasonable.

First time visiting Singapore in January to March, further information would be really appreciated 😊

Sorry if im a bit confused, but is the 60cents charge for foreign credit cards per day, or per usage? like if you want to use the MRT 5 times in one day with a foreign card, is that 60 cents total, or 3 dollars?

I think if you use a debit or credit card, the transport authority just makes one charge on the card per day which will include the cost of all the journeys you made that day - plus the single credit card surcharge.

Yeah it is confusing. The other commenter Tom has it right - the ticketing company adds up all the trips you made on your foreign credit card for a single day, then adds 60 cents and this is what is billed to you. So if you make 5 trips in one day, the fee is 60 cents; if you make 1 trip in a day, the fee is still 60 cents.
