I think the problem of affordable housing is much deeper and not so much dependent on foreigners. Foreigners are just an easy topic for populism, but not a solution for affordable housing for locals. The problem exists in all countries in one form or another, there are no simple solutions, but there are already practices that Portugal could take advantage of and adopt.

@@sanderrecommends interesting to know that you already admit that better houses dont bellong to portuguese anymore. Regarding the affordable houses, are not affordable anymore and because the enormous quantity of digital nomads living and moving here and the short Rental business for tourists. Please read some locals news on this topic. The situation is catastrophic for locals.

To my deep regret, I don't yet see any sensible programmes in the media to address the problem of affordable housing in Portugal. Only unrealistic statements, let's stop all programmes for foreigners. But this will not solve the problem of affordable housing. If tomorrow a luxury flat that sells for 10,000 Euros per sqm in the centre of Lisbon is sold at a loss for 6,000-8,000 Euros per sqm. This would not make it affordable to the average local person.

@@sanderrecommends those luxury buildings are made is renovated buildings in the center where locals were pushed out. There are plenty of news regarding this topic in online newspappers if you want to find it. Please use some online translator. Last weekend took place demonstration regarding this problem in 20 cities in Portugal. There was many thousand people just in Lisbon.

Can you tell me in wich European or world capital the city center is dedicated entirely to the affordable housing and locals can afford it and live happily? Please, indicate at least one real case.
