Thermal camera inspection corroborated our suspicion, indicating a potential malfunction in this circuit. To conclude our diagnostics, we connected the device to a precision laboratory power supply, which indeed indicated the CPU's overheating.
After a detailed visual inspection under the microscope, we noticed tiny "balls" indicative of overheating issues. Despite the option of performing a CPU reballing, we were fully aware that this was only a short-term solution to a likely recurring problem.
