    You didnt load the film in properly. Happened to me on my first roll as well. Make sure your rewind knob is also turning while you advance the film.

    @@drakedoggy103 I found out that actually my developer got contaminated with blix. not sure how it happened I'm usually pretty careful about it but yeah my developer was totally shot, the entire roll including the markings on the edges by the sprocket holes was clear.

    I worked at a 1 hour lab in the late 80's. Biggest issue was the leader wasn't pushed into the takeup spool and slipped out. When you advance the film on a 35mm camera the rewind knob should spin. Also if there are vertical lines throughout the entire roll you rewound the film backwards. Damn I have so many stories.

    Scenario 4 - which happend to me at my first three rolls of film at my vacation in italy with 3 other friends - to load your film the wrong way ... the numbers on your camera will go up as you release the shutter again and again, but in the end you messed up loading your film the right way. RIP

    Thanks for this. Scenario 3 happened to me recently with a roll of 110 film, which was really surprising. I started suspecting it was the roll of film, but it was the first roll I had developed off of this particular camera. But there are no markings on the edges. And it felt like the film “broke free” at the end when 110 stays attached to its feeder side. So somehow, it definitely all got exposed.

    This is very helpful! I'm wondering what you think might be the issue if SOME (about 13 out of 36) of my exposures are just blank but the rest developed just fine. It seems as if something happened about halfway through the roll.

    Just developed my first roll of 110 and I had this happen. My first couple of photos did develop but after the first two it started to fade until eventually the rest of the roll wasn't even showing anything. Some good tips for what I should look out for. Thanks. I used an old Kodak ektra 200 camera

    I develop old exposed film most 40 years old and older. Just because a roll of film was taped shut after removal from the camera doesn't guarantee images 40+ years later when developed. The heat the film is subjected to is a major factor. Also, film wrapped and taped that was displayed for years in bright sunlight will be worthless. Of all the films I process over 50 years past exposure date, only about 30% yield any images.

    Heyyy i have a question. What happen to the film roll if i wasn't able to develop it for a year? Will the output get affected? Photolabs are far from our place. Please enlighten me

  • @CineStillFilm

    @CineStillFilm

    Hey there! Leaving film undeveloped for a long period of time subjects your film to age fog and the exposure fades from latent image failure. Ideally, you'll always want to process film as promptly as possible for the best results from your film. Sorry to hear photo labs are far from you! We're happy to say that we offer tools and kits to easily start processing at home. you can find more information about our processing kits here: cinestillfilm.com/collections/laboratory-supplies/_starter-kits We hope this helps!

    Best to load the film in the subdue light. Make sure that is is fully l on the take up sprocket before you close the back. Then after you close the back. Put your had or lens cap over the lens and advance the film to one. Than you can check by trying to rewind the film if you have a manual rewinder. If there is resistants' than you a good to go.

    Okay, I'll put on my old guy hat. IMO the primary reason you get new 35mm film photographers with rolls of blank film is that they are creatures of the internet. They get a camera and a roll of film or two. Then they play around with the camera, maybe quick scan a YT video, then declare themselves a fully vetted member of the tribe. Download and read the user manual for the camera? Not on your life. Instead, they screw around making mistakes until they admit that they are fools and seek help for someone who knows, or dive into YT and find a video like this one. Not a very efficient learning curve, is it? In my universe, each of these guys would get a Pentax K1000 loaner and have to return the camera and a developed roll of film images which are all properly exposed, or they would be banned to digital. Think of all the film we could save. Think of all of the mindless YT videos which would never be made.

    I've had an issue where my camera works fine and the develop lab was not an issue and rolls were coming in blank. Nothing was expired. No cover on the camera lens. Nothing. I suspect it was an error during production of film. I contacted Fujifilm to hopefully get my 3 pack of film replaced. What I have heard is resellers are packaging expired film to resell as new. 🥲
