Asgore is a good person at heart. I’ll give you an idea of the situation he was in. The humans attacked the monster for no good reason and killed thousands while not losing one. They then sealed the monsters underground potentially forever, with only way to break it to get 7 human souls. And spoilers the humans then killed Asgore son, this causes I’m to declare that any human that falls into the underground will be killed. And Asgore doesn’t enjoy any of this, he’s a good man stuck in the worst situation.

I remember someone once saying that Asgore sounded like "a good person forced to do a horrible things", and I can't describe it better than that. There's tragedy in the melody, because for all intents and purposes, this is a fight that shouldn't have to happen, it's great. So many bangers in this ep, SAVE The World fills me with so much emotion due to the context in the game, it's powerful, it's great. Snowy is just Toby showing off in the piano and I LOVE it, it's beautiful, with this underlying loneliness, it represents its area so well. And man Fallen Down Reprise, that song gets me, it really does. Love, nostalgia, sadness, comfort, it's everything to me. He has no idea what to do in such a stressful situation that he was basically forced into, but because of his social skills, he conviced his people that he's got everything under control, He was genuinely scared of freeing monsters. Gerson straight up tells us that a long time ago they promised each other that they would abandon the goal of freeing the underground and that he's disappointed by Asgore for breaking that promise. Because that's the point of the Undertale OST, it's meant to make you FEEL things. Good things, bad things, doesn't matter as long as you feel SOMETHING. SAVE the world is not a continuation of anything BUT it is an alternate version of Hopes and Dreams that plays during the final boss fight of the True Pacifist route. The name is also a reference to the ability to SAVE the game 6:12 Asgore is the king of monsters, Toriel's ex husband and father of Asriel. Honestly, ASGORE sounds way better if you listen to it combined with Bergentrückung (Intro). 8:32 No it's not fine to murder 6 children, it's not fine to murder any humans. But I blame Toriel for him acting like that. If she hadn't left, if she had stuck by his side then maybe, just maybe, he wouldn't have killed those humans. also I wouldn't say Asgore brutally murdered the 6 humans. They had a similar story to Frisk. They fell down, found out how to escape, fought Asgore but ended up loosing against him.

That last thing is one of the things I love in the Growth Spurt Comics. There is like a small chapter that deals with this. For context, this comic deals with a Post Genocie, current pacifist run of the game. Its after the end of the game, and they somehow brought asriel back. He has some argument with Toriel about how she treats Asgore, and he yells that he should have the same treatment, since he killed people when he was back in his "old self" (trying to avoid spoilers here in case Matt didnt finish the game yet). So she goes to talk with asgore, and in that talk, we get to see Asgore still deals with the Guilt of murdering those children, and Toriel acknowledges that, if she had stayed instead of running, than she could had prevented the child killing spree. Normally the comic isnt that serious, its more of a comedy one, but sometimes they deal with this darker and more serious side of the game

She obviously was strongly and I mean STRONGLY against the whole idea to murder humans who fell down and made that pretty darn clear but Asgore Chose to inact the plan and chose to continue. For reasonable reasons and for a noble goal but you can not just blame Toriel for not sticking with the man who literally said "I will murder 7 Innocent People who all could be literal children to free my people" Its a complicated moral question in which I would support Asgores choice yet both have their faults as well as shortcommings but saying Toriel was not justified in leaving or that she was to blame at all for him doing what he did is just blaming her for Asgores own choices.

Fallen down is one of my favorite not vocal songs the vibe i get from it is happy depressing and a feeling of uplifting but also the truth it gives you the unknown something you want to find out but also like you in a void of nothing just floating in infinite space of nothing the feeling of the song is so spaced out there is more than just a specific feeling your supposed to get out of it thats why i like so much i listen to it to dumb out all my messy thoughts into the calm void Also its eases you but also makes you paranoid for the unknown that why i love the song soo much its passion into the void into something we can never escape i just wanna lay down listening to is whilee i drift off the space it gives me happiness sad reality and paranoia for what is next what move should i make or do i just let my choices drift and just let it happen i don't really know but all i know is now the past and the happiness the song gives me

Personally I think next step to go to when reacting to Undertale music (other than another Deltarune reaction hint hint) is the Undertale live orchestra that was done officially for the 5th anniversary. The entire games soundtrack was conducted infront of a live audience, it’s perfect for a reaction.

  • @Corsaka

so, the original Fallen Down plays right at the start of the game. it's far shorter and focuses way more on that strange dissonance of being halfway between F# and G; you're in a completely new world, alien in nature, not certain quite what to do. the music throws you off and puts you slightly on edge because it just sounds wrong. the reprise comes right near the end of the game, and it serves to remind you of that confusion and uncertainty you felt at the start, but the second half of the song brings back the main UNDERTALE motif: you've grown as a player and as a character in this world. you're familiar with it, and it's not so scary anymore; you're almost nostalgic for the times where you were living in quite so much fear. toby fox does this all the time in his music, it's great. Also, the """boss""" version of 'sans.' you're looking for is 'Song That Might Play When You Fight Sans'. if you listen carefully, you'll hear that it uses the exact same melody! (it also never plays in the game)

Asgore is such a sad character. He did terrible things, cause he felt forced to do them, but the worst thing? Most monsters supported it, kings meant to do the right thing, after all. Sadly, Asgore isn't the best king material - he's liked by his people and is very powerful, but lacks mental strength to push through tough times. Maybe if Toriel didn't leave she could've change all that history, I kinda hate that she blames everything on Asgore... Anyways I love Dreemurr family and think about them too much.

To be fair, we didn't do "both routes", so much as did Undertale: The Musical in the Pacifist route, and then a No Mercy package because those songs are absolute BANGERS and it would be a disservice not to cover them-- plus some bonus adaptations mixed in. c: Star's a good one! It probably had nothing to do with the character we associated it with, but we had fun with that one. And thank you for the plug! I did not expect to write this long of a comment but my ADHD said I had to so here are a whole bunch of song recommendations! I'm operating under the (probably false) assumption that you haven't heard any of these. (I haven't seen your Terraria video yet so if you've already listened to this one I apologise) I really like the Empress of Light theme from Terraria! There are a lot of interesting sounds they incorporate into the song and it sounds really cool. The Calamity mod is a wealth of awesome songs! There's a complete playlist here on KZread, but I'd really recommend Stained, Brutal Calamity (13 mins), Yharon Phase Two, "Roar of the Jungle Dragon" (vocals!! 8 mins), The Devourer of Gods (14 minutes but SO worth it), "Wasteland," theme of the sulfurous sea (6 mins), "Hadopelagic Pressure", theme of the Abyss (4 mins), "1NF3S+@+!0N", Crabulon's theme (4 mins.), and Acidic Lament (Not strictly a Calamity song but very vibey!) I really like a lot of the Sonic.exe Friday Night Funkin songs, which tend to be scary but I like them a lot! (My favourite is Fleetway Sonic VS Super BF, and my other favourite I think was sadly deleted) Always and forever obsessed with the Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack, my favourites are Jack's Lament, What's This, Jack's Obsession, and Poor Jack. I would also recommend Paper Mario songs: TTYD and Super Paper Mario have really good tracks! Mimi the Copycat (Super Paper Mario) is a really vibey song to me, and I also really like Doopliss' theme from TTYD! Plus Thrills at Night (Origami King) is a Thriller parody that's very dance-worthy. Aside from that, a lot of Kingdom Hearts music is really cool (especially Xehanort's themes. Lots of violin and orchestral sounds.) I would also recommend the Bug Fables soundtrack! (Venus' Guardian, Harvest Festival, and His Friends Call Him Spuder are some of my favourites.) Finally, there's a song called Warbringer which sounds really awesome. I think it features Lindsay Sterling on violin? It's a really nice song that goes hard Phew I think that's everything! I really enjoy your videos, your commentary is always a lot of fun :)

Asgore wouldn’t necessarily say that it’s okay to brutally murder six human children, and he actually despises doing so. He made a promise after his two children died, when all of the Underground had lost hope, that he would free them and make the humans pay for what they had taken from them. He didn’t actually want to do any of that, but he said it to give Monsters hope again, and was then forced to carry out his word due to the expectation of his subjects. He’s actually a really nice guy all things considered and is remarkably respectful to any human that comes to challenge him.

The whole thing with Asgore Dreemurr is that his name is a clever anagram. Asgore = Aegros, based on the Latin word aeger, which has several meanings, one of which translates as "Reluctant" in a figurative sense, and then Dreemurr = Murder. So his name is literally meant to be "Reluctant Murderer", in the sense that he doesn't *want* to kill the children, but he sees no other alternative to free his people and prevent them from giving up and turning into dust. It is the weight and burden of his crown/duty that he feels he must, even if it kills himself inside. (It's also what led to Toriel leaving him. She wanted to hope/believe they could still find a way to be free without anyone dying, and she sees what he's willing to do and isn't okay with that.)
