    also the grip used is different between men’s and women’s gymnastics because with women’s we’re switching between the two bars instead of being on one. and female gymnasts are lighter on average due to the higher demand for flexibility in women’s gymnastics compared to men’s.

    Ok so I’m a female competitive gymnast, and for all the people complaining about him saying women won’t do as many powerful swings on the bar, it’s true. He’s completely right because not only are our routines different and don’t incorporate the same kind of moves as men and also, women are lighter than men on average. He’s just saying facts.

    Not sure if someone commented this, but women's gymnastics also used to involve a lot of "bouncing" moves. They'd purposefully wack their thighs/hips against the bars to bounce between the low/high bars. You can't do a giant on the low bar to build up momentum/get that bend he's talking about, so instead momentum was conserved by litterally smacking into the thing. So, yeah, steel would've been less than ideal.

    Men's parallel bars are also made of wood and fiber glass. They can also be offest and adjusted into a position reminiscent to "beat bars", or how uneven bars used to be set. Female gymnasts used to bounce and swing from bar to bar. The bars were also not a cylinder shape, they had the same shape as parallel bars.

    @@colbey32 In Turnen (a Sport) in Switzerland, the Stufebarren are exactly that, parallel bars set at different heights. What's really fun is we'll do routines with multiple people (sometimes even mixed men and women) and multiple sets of bars. It's super fun and really reminiscent of the old days, especially when bouncing off the lower bar back up to the top bar or holding the top bar, catching the low bar with your hips, and going straight into a back hip circle. Just gotta bend the knees on the circle so you don't crack your shins on the high bar. 😅

    To all the comments, women's and men's gymnastics shouldn't even be compared tbh. They're basically two different things. One's more involved in flexibility and the other's more involved in strength. They'd both fail trying each other's sports so that just shows how different it is. The only real thing they have in common is flipping around but that's basically it. And they're not even doing it the same way either so like...

    There are actually similarities, such as the same events ( As in shared events like the floor and vault), they both have difficulty and execution scores they both have bars just made out of different materials. So they are both gymnastics, just different ways of doing things. So in certain aspects you can compare but they do have a LOT of differences. We are sane, and people just need to figure out how and when you can compare the 2.

  • @nunyanothing1408

    They also fail at each other's events because girls are naturally more flexible and have practiced balance beam or uneven bar and guys haven't. Exactly, there’s multiple series I’ve seen from different gymnasts where a man and a woman who are both either competitive or pro (or both in the case of pros) will swap and test out how good they are at the other genders skill set that the other person is trained for. The results are always entertaining and it shows just how different the two sports are since often each person struggles with the skill set they’re not familiar with/trained for.

Steel is one of the materials that has a fatigue limit, that means it will never break as long as the applied stress stays below a certain value.

And I'm not sure if this is comparable to chalk that gymnasts use, but I often had my hands covered in flour from baking my cakes, and I still got blisters. My grandma had a mop with an aluminum stick, and I didn't get blisters from gripping it when I used it to mop her floor. Since then, I made the switch to the aluminum stick, and I never got blisters again. It's also satisfyingly cool to the touch. Now don't get me wrong, I don't know if it works the same way in gymnastics. Maybe it's a different case for you guys and you don't get blisters because of the chalk, but I honestly think they should all be metal.

But the steel is used by all people, because women can have just as much force on the bar as men, the wooden is used most by the kids and teens but the adults (no matter what gender) are free to use those when they wish, however we do heavily state that if your practicing a routine to use the steel bars.

  • @pepelepepe

    @pepelepepe

    Жыл бұрын

    Could be both because build, as in the bone composition and density does affect the torque, meaning force, applied by the skeletal muscles. Ex: Males have longer arms so the arm lever system for them creates more force in comparison to a woman. In addition, Males have more fast twitch fibers than women, which affects their source of substance use. Men use more carbohydrates, which is less energy but a quicker source, than lipids, which is what women tend to rely on for fuel. This quickness of energy availability can impact the prolonged use of power/force used by the muscles during the short period of the routine and, likewise, affecting the amount of stress on the bar.

    No, but it’ll critically deform under the weight of the balls needed

    Flexibility has nothing to do with it though. It'd be more accurate to say it's because of the toughness and hardness. It could also be accurate to say elastic deformation too. And why oh why that material? Well, 'cause if it's made of aluminium or copper, you'll soon figure out that guy Newtown was right...

    Steel doesn't fatigue, either, as long as you don't go past a certain stress point. And it's cheap.

    Women's bars developed from men's Pbars. They initially just offset them, then used spreaders to get a tilt that eventually turned into a new apparatus. It's about an evolution in design, not so much about the power of the skills. It could be argued that the difference in the power of the skills was shaped by the evolution in equipment design.
