We went on the Disney Wish mid august. At some point someone over heard my daughter say her favorite princess was Elsa. One night outside our room was an envelope addressed to my daughter. There was a card inside hand written by Elsa to her. Another day my wife was sitting with my 3 year old down the hall from the kids club. Mickey came walking by. Walked past them, stopped and turned around, grabbed my sons hand and took him into the kids club where he showed him how to steer the ship in the play area. Just him 1 on 1. I was so sad I missed it but she took lots of videos. That’s the Disney Magic people talk about but can’t describe. It was incredible. We’ve done all the major cruise lines now and no other company comes close to that level. We already booked the Disney Treasure for 2025

We went to Disney Fantasy Jan 2023...it was the best family vacation I've ever been on. Cost up front was hard to swallow but after the trip...I would've paid more. Only very minor downside was my youngest was 2 years old so she wasn't old enough to go to the kids club. My oldest was 4 but rarely went to the kids club because she didn't want to be away from her sister. They had a blast either way. We booked the Disney Treasure for Jan 2025. I can not wait since both of my girls will be old enough to join the kids club.

Took my first ever cruise on the Wonder this past May which fulfilled two bucket list wishes - a Disney cruise and visiting Alaska. It was absolutely magical and well worth every penny. I booked fairly early and felt I got a good price even though I traveled solo and paid much more for my cabin than I would have if traveling with others. As an older adult I felt there was plenty for me to do whether I wanted adult entertainment, relaxation, or Disney themed fun. I opted for an ocean view and to save money elected for the cruise line to choose my room which was fine though I feel I would choose my own room next time and opt for a balcony as long as the weather is warm. The food was amazing - I am a vegan and eat a very low fat diet...my servers were wonderful and I had no problem finding meals that fit my dietary requirements. The gym was beautiful and the spa is spectacular. Can't wait to cruise with Disney again. Thanks to Ben and David for giving me so much information and helping me feel more confident selecting my next cruise. :)

We cruised 13 times on Disney from 1998 with our last in 2017 and enjoyed every one. We reached the top loyalty tier. Since the pandemic Disney have ridiculously raised their prices (double pre and post COVID), started charging for things that were previously included, doubled the specialty dining prices, reduced the number of adult only areas and activities, and added a new even higher loyalty tier (reducing the value of our current tier and removing perks). Bottom line, we no longer think Disney is a good value and now cruise with other lines.

My family and I normally cruise with RCCL, and tried Disney last year, aboard Disney Fantasy. We had a great time, but we agreed the price difference - over 2X as much for the same type of cabin - just isn't worth it. DCL was awesome, but a one and done for us unless their pricing is on par with RCCL. We're back to Wonder of the Seas in two weeks' time and saving a ton on our balcony cabin.

I'm glad you made this video. I hear other reviewers talk about how Disney cruises are only more expensive because of branding which I disagree with. I've been cruising for a bit now and I notice that Disney's upkeep of their ships is well above others. I considered making a video about it. You guys are spot on, Disney is pricey but I feel they're worth it because of the service, upkeep, and friendly cruising community that sail Disney. Also you can find competitive pricing if your time is flexible.

  • @kevwwong

It's definitely not just the branding. They put a lot into the ships. Agree that if you have flexible time, you can shop for the best possible price. But the issue is that when you have kids, you really have to weigh whether it's worth it or not to take them out of school. If they're really young, should not be a problem. As they get older, it becomes more of a factor. That's where they can really get you with prices.

Yes it is very worth it- did a 7 night Eastern Caribbean cruise in Dec 2022. The Disney magic and service is far above & beyond. The cast members go out of their way to make sure you are happy with their service. My husband and I did the Remy brunch. Our head waiter was so concerned that my husband didn't eat much of his dinner (we had the early time slot) and thought he didn't like the food & offered other options. In reality, he was stuffed from Remy still. We miss our servers as they did cater to what we liked and took note of our dislikes & how we liked our meal timed out. Remy was a class above & one of the best restaurants we have ever tried. Looking forward to trying Palo next time. Our son enjoyed the kids club and the nightly shows were out of this world and really broadway quality shows with the lights, moving sets, etc. Looking forward to using our future cruise credit to book another DCL vacation.

I took the kids on the Magic when it was about one year old. It’s was fabulous! Had to drag them out of the kids club, they loved it! One night we were awakened around 1:00 am with a ship wide fire alarm. At the time I just got annoyed that we were all awakened. They had it taken care of in about 20 minutes. Now I realize how serious a fire on a ship can be. We were blown away by Castaway Cay! I’m not sure private islands were a thing then or maybe they were and I didn’t know 🤷🏻‍♀️ The adults only beach was phenomenal as it was considered a sea life preserve so it was well announced not to disturb the sea critters. Live starfish and conch were in abundance as well a beautiful, tropical fish. A very memorable experience indeed. I agree. It’s hard to put a price tag on intangibles such as service and maintenance. I only say intangible as many feel it is expected. But increased levels are worth the money. Unlike taxes 😂

Because they don’t nickel and dime you like all of the other cruise lines. I’m new to cruising and took my first cruise on the Wish 4 months ago since then I’ve taken 3 additional cruises and the nickel and diming is crazy! The only cruise where I didn’t feel like that was the case was Virgin and it’s comparable in price. I also went on a Royal Caribbean cruise last month and it seemed like every time I thought something was included boom another fee; mind you I stayed in a suite so I would’ve though my that much of what they were charging me for would be included. It was super annoying to have to pay for a friggin cup of coffee when I’ve paid nearly $8 for my cabin. It’s another example of getting what you pay for and I’m willing to spend a little more on Disney.

1000% They are also very strict on alcohol sales. They don't offer an alcohol package and will not let you get too drunk because they want to maintain the family friendly environment. On our last sailing a man was escorted to his work due to. his behavior from drinking, so alcohol sales are likely lower as well, and that is a huge markup for most lines

Disney is the preferred cruise line for my wife and me. Our first cruise was on the Disney Wonder for our 25th wedding anniversary. We've sailed on the Wonder, Fantasy and Wish with a goal of cruising on every one of their ships one year. We've also sailed on Carnival, Royal Caribbean and Norwegian. Our order of preference is DCL, RCL, Carnival and then NCL. We've booked an Alaska cruise late in the 2024 season on Holland America Line, so we'll have another line for comparison. As a show comment, I liked the information you provided. There is one correction that I think is needed, though. Animator's Pallet is only on the Magic, Wonder, Dream and Fantasy. That restaurant was replaced on the Wish by Arendale and on the Treasure by Cocoa.

Food was same every day at the Cabana’s and has few options as well. The only time I liked food was lunch at Castaway Cay. I was on the Disney Magic for the Westbound Panama Canal crossing…my honest opinion…it was NOT worth it. I could list a laundry list of things that I made this cruise really bad but here are three things: 1. The characters were not there to greet guest as we boarded the ship. 2. The disorganization to disembark at a port. It took us over an hour and a half to get off at Grand Cayman. 3. The lack of things to do for adults after 1030pm. Once the last activity ended, the ship went quiet. Yes the bars might stay open until midnight, but there was no music or entertainment anywhere.

Having annual passes to Disneyland even went to Disneyland paris (disappointed) Loved how you explained why disney is priced higher . We feel it’s worth it, having also cruised on 3 other lines (princess, royal , ncl. ) listed in order of favorites after Disney. Having said that our 4 night cruise is more expensive than a 7 night on the other brands. The entertainment, food quality, cleanliness and attention to detail makes it an easy decision for us. I did take the entire family with 4 grandkids on our dream trip. And the kids absolutely loved it. Still talk about it 5 years later, now as teens. But the price tag for all 12 of us in three cabins is harder to justify when we could go to New Zealand (non cruise) for the same price … it’s all about variety in life isn’t it. Try everything at least once .. Really enjoy your videos. Keep doing what you do. I find the content just perfect. No unnecessary blab or bad jokes . Just great information and advice , with video showing everything necessary

I've only done 3 Disney cruises. LOVE Castaway Cay. Love the service. I'm not a super Disney character fan, but I found they were never "in your face". Saw a movie that wasn't in the theatres yet. They have fireworks. We tendered to one port - don't remember which one. There were other ships in port. We did our excursion and returned to shore to go back to the boat. There was a HUGE LINE to tender! However, upon inspection, it wasn't Disney - it was another cruise line. Going a bit further, we found the Disney area - and it was empty. We got the next tender and was back on board very quickly. I felt sorry for the people in that long line. Like you said, the main dining rooms are on par with other ships specialty ones. Disney does lack a casino, ice skating, motor racing, aqua diving, water surfing, and stuff like that. The best they can do it putt putt, rock wall (?), game room, and the floom water rides. Free (included) soft drink and ice cream is very nice too.

Enjoyed the video! I took a Disney Cruise before there WAS a Disney Cruise Line! July of 1986, I sailed on a 3-day Premier Cruise Lines Star/Ship Oceanic which was then the Official Cruise Line of Walt Disney World! It was a Senior cruise to the Bahamas that included overnight docking at Nassau. We had an excursion to Salt Cay for snorkeling & Barbecue. That island is located over near Rose Island. I was 17 years old at the time, and the drinking age was 16 so I blew through $200 cash I brought with me on alcohol and gambling! No sail cards to charge to back then! No parents either! Just high school classmates! Lol! I don't recall any Disney characters onboard although if there were any, I didn't see them. Yep, glad today drinking age is 21 on cruises! Lol! We were too wild! I'm more surprised none of us fell overboard! Star/Ship Oceanic was 40K ton ship which is tiny by today's standards. The ship was turned into razor blades back in 2012. That cruise wasn't too expensive whereas Disney Cruises today are pricey! May one day I'll take a cruise on Disney for nostalgia purposes!

The Fantasy is a fine ship, but the onboard activities really didn't suit me. But, these are things that you are only going to discover by trying different cruise lines, and I absolutely do not regret trying a Disney cruise.

Hey, Ben & David! You are spot-on with the "service exceeds the industry standard" opinion. My wife and I will only cruise Disney, even when our daughter opts to stay home. The adult sections of the ship are strictly enforced, and it is extremely geared around adults. (less "magic"). We made the one-time only mistake of cruising RC, and their older ships do not meet the standards of DCL. One final comment that is rarely discussed is that drink prices on DCL are far lower than RC. (can't speak for the others). And when we did cruise RC, it took 20 minutes in line to get a drink. I would rather take less cruises on DCL, than more cruises on another cruise line. We cruise 3 times per year. Cheers!

We love DCL and have taken 11 cruises with them with 2012. We agree that you can just sense the Disney difference when you are on the cruise. More recently, we have taken a Celebrity cruise (Beyond) and a HAL cruise (Rotterdam). We enjoyed both and have cruises booked on both lines, but we agree that Disney have them beat in service for sure and entertainment in our opinion. DCL and HAL both beat Celebrity on MDR food quality. But Disney's food variety on the MDR menus beat both HAL and Celebrity. DCL is expensive so we have decided to stick with them in the Caribbean when it is more about the ship than the ports and when we have access to DCL's private islands. On port intensive and/or unique itineraries we are happy cruising with Celebrity and HAL (but we do miss that hard to define/articulate Disney difference!)

It’s totally worth it. We love Disney cruises and go on them with family, friends or even just by ourselves. Going on a less busy week is way more practical so just something to keep in mind. I don’t think we will ever get tired of DCL. We have three booked between now and next September!! I tried RCCL earlier this year, but honestly the only thing I liked about it was Cococay. I might give them one more chance but the food was awful and it was so loud and there was literally no where calm to relax on the entire ship. Also, I can’t stand the gambling and smoking on the Royal ships. Also they barely cleaned our room whereas Disney does 2 cleaning a day. I am looking forward to trying Viking ocean cruises at some point though. I will say Chops Grille was pretty good but a family next to us had kids banging the table the entire time. I missed Disney Adult only dining, the Cove cafe, quiet lounges, no smoking and appropriate shows. I was literally embarrassed to be in the theater while they were doing the Grease show with all the younger kids around. I may still give Royal another shot on one of the newer ships but I’m not a huge fan of how gigantic they are. I wish they had a newer smaller ship to try. We may go ahead and just try it one of the celebrity ships that goes to Cococay. But I’m OK admitting that we are just DCL fans. And yes we pay a premium for that. That part stinks! 😂

Disney cruises are in the upper end of cruising costs. Yes they may coin in on the brand but the level of service is far higher than competitors. There is also no casinos on board, where other lines gain thousands extra revenue from gamblers. Would they be cheaper if they had a casino? Possibly but you'd lose more of what they are all about and the general service and feel of the ship. Another bonus.....they announce each travel party a hearty welcome announcement as you first board. Do you get this level of service from mainstream lines? I think not. You get what you pay for, so add up all your nickle and diming and look at the total bottom cost to better judge and see who's overall service wins

Back in the late 90s early 2000s when Disney first started, their cruise experience was worth the price of the cruise no matter what it cost. However, recently their quality and service has sadly gone down hill since what they started with. Also, since Disney only has 6 ships (Treasure coming soon) currently a majority of their itineraries only go to basic ports in the Caribbean and Alaska and only embark-debark in certain ports. Other cruise lines have way better itineraries and port options. So for example if I’m leaving from say Port Canaveral, Disney is only going to the Bahamas and their private island. Their private island is wonderful, but to us no longer worth the premium. For example a 4 day cruise in a standard balcony room was over $4,000 for 2 people. We are able to take 3-4 seven day cruises on other lines to better more exciting ports.

I could honestly careless to go on another Disney cruise since my kids are now young adults, but my husband is a huge Avenger and Star Wars fan so we just booked the Treasure for May 2025. As for me, the idea of kids wondering around, yelling, running, taking over pools is a huge thumbs down for me. Been there, done that. Plus I don't like the idea of a tub/shower combo.

Disney does cruising the way cruising SHOULD be done. The ships are fabulous, the entertainment is amazing, the service is what cruising used to be years ago when only the rich could afford it. The food is above the other cruise lines and frankly so is the quality of passenger. Disney has priced the rabble off their ships. You might get some snobs and a few elitists, but you won't generally get drunken neglectful parents letting their kids run amok. By keeping their prices high they won't have the booze cruise types and I really wish I could afford to cruise with them. Everyone complains about what they charge because they can't afford to sail wiith them. Its not a right, its a privilege. If you can't afford Disney, cruise with another line or do what we are doing, save up for a few years and make it a cruise to remember. You get what you pay for, and you really do have to pay for the Disney experience, high standards and great service.
