    anyone remember the NEAR money play on SF 49ers? I think it was Montana to the tight end. He would start up at the bottom and at the snap, the tight end goes straight up and if you pass at the right moment, a defender can never stop it. I wish I knew which play it was.

    Sorry to dominate the comments, but if you don't mind just one more- Have you seen the way that Christian Okoye of the Chiefs is statted on TSB? Take Neal Anderson and Brad Muster, and combine them, and you had a monster of a RB. Jackson may have been the fastest, but Okoye, when played by a person, was a dominant back. When I was a 20-year-old and this game was out, I had a group of friends of mine that got together for four straight years on New Years' Eve and did an all-night Tecmo Bow War. Each of us picked a team, and we played an entire 16-week season with playoffs and Super Bowl, with the winner getting a small trophy that all of us kicked in to buy. The first year, my friend Jayson had the Kansas City Chiefs, and blew everyone apart by just pounding Okoye over and over. He could do wonders with Okoye, getting out of the way of tackles and barreling over others. He just wrecked me in the AFC Championship game (I had the Oilers), and won the whole thing that year. It was such a blast. Good times. I'll shut up now; thanks for sharing this.

    Let me make this clear, this was a time without internet and "cheese plays" you can find all over the web in today's sports games. If you discovered something that works on your buddy or brother you did that on your own! Tecmo bowl was the cream of the crop for sports games on the NES, you didn't need to be a football fan to have so much fun playing! BO was a beast on that game but I use to pick the 49ers my brother the Raiders, we both got the best of each other! What memories👍 great throwback as always!

Whenever he order the Ahi Tuna Salad, I modified it "Bo Knows" so the kitchen knew he liked his Tuna extra rare. I started to get to know him and I asked him about Tecmo Bowl and even he admitted how ridiculous it was for him to be that good. The guy was nothing but class.

    Wayne Haddix from the Buccaneers, John Offerdahl from the Dolphins, and Jerry Ball from the Lions are all hidden defensive gems in this game.

  • @giampaolofini1535

    @giampaolofini1535

    Жыл бұрын

    Fun facts about all 3: Haddix is rated the best CB in the game due to his ranking being based on the '90 season in which he lead the league in INTs with 7. He never had another INT before or after that season and only played 42 games in the NFL. Offerdahl opened a bagel restaurant in the '90 season which later became a chain that would later merge with another group to become the nationwide chain Einstein's Bagels. Ball being a stud shouldn't be too surprising to those following NFL at the time, he was selected to the Pro Bowl in '89,'90 and '91 and was arguably the best DT in the league. He is one of the few players to have a rule change informally named after him. The "Jerry Ball Rule" outlawed chop blocks after he was injured by one.

    It was timing. Tecmo Bowl for the NES was supposedly based on the 1988 season, but it was clearly 1987 with Chicago still having Walter Payton (he retired after the 87 season) and Indianapolis, Denver, and Washington included as they all made the playoffs in the 87 season. Bo was insane his rookie year, with the signature game against the Seahawks on Monday Night Football. He was actually pretty pedestrian under Mike Shanahan in 1988 but was great against when Art Shell took over in 1989 and in 1990.

    The Nintendo version is really good but it's nowhere near as good as the Super Nintendo version. Super Tecmo Bowl is a lot better with no screen flicker, you can do touchbacks, etc. It's the best version of Tecmo Bowl ever made. I can't even play the original anymore and the NES version of Tecmo SB is really primitive. They could have just updated the rosters on Super Tecmo Bowl and I would have continued to buy it. It's still one of my favorite games and I play it all the time.

    Wow Chris you are right! I guess I had a Mandela effect with the original where I have recently just played the original tecmo bowl on the classic and I was totally convinced they didn't have the names back in the day either lol. My mistake dude. I try my best to get it 100% right but I botched that one. Thanks for being cool about it.

    They probably would have to get individual players permission instead of dealing with the players association. Would cost alot of $.

    How to "stop" Bo Jackson in Tecmo Super Bowl: Be the Philadelphia Eagles. Offense for offense. QB Eagles aka Randall Cunningham is a juggernaut, in his own right. Defense for the Eagles has Bob Golic, who can lurch and stop any run up the middle. Lurching is often deemed "illegal." If thats the case, simply use Reggie White as your defensive player.

    I was a Kansas City Chiefs guy. I liked to throw a lot and they had the best passing game that also had a top RB (Okoye) and dominant defensive player (Thomas)
