Why is Africa turning away from the United States? | The Bottom Line

Officials in the United States look upon Africans as people “in need of help” or people who “need to be told what to do”, and this is destroying relations between Africa and Washington, according to the former African Union representative to the US, Arikana Chihombori-Quao.
“The US needs to call a timeout and treat Africans with respect,” Chihombori told host Steve Clemons, adding that the US-Africa Leaders Summit hosted by the White House this week “will fail unless Americans see Africans as equals".
Chihombori-Quao argues that pan-African unity is the only path for the continent to be less dependent on outside powers.

it's no wonder why Africans are turning away from the United States! United States has done nothing for Africa but supported dictators and murderers and have funded terrorist organizations throughout the African continent to cause destabilization! they have done little or nothing to help Africa prosper they have only drained and depleted and exploited Africa for every resource they have and have supported the colonial Powers against Africa's efforts to create their own democracy and Independence !now they wonder why African people don't trust them and don't want them in Africa we can look at Somalia and what they have done in Ethiopia and don't have to go no further and not to mention supporting apartheid in South Africa we have a whole list of grievance against the United States and why Africans are turning against them United States have always betrayed Africa they have never ever supported Africa in their true efforts to uplift themselves but have always supported colonialism and pointers who have sought to exploit Africa!China has done more for Africa in the last 30 years than the Europeans have done in the 400 years that they have been there China has the same purposes and reasons the only difference is China is willing to deal with Africa on their terms and not on European terms and trying to set their own terms but China is there for the same reasons to explore Africa for its resources! China and Russia are beating the West at this game Africans the richest continent in the world and they want those resources!

China has allot of surplus goods for building their help is good in that sense and convenient for them. But just like Afghanistan, Africa needs to be at a certain level of development to be able to comfortably implement our structuring, technology, efficiency and stability otherwise our help and supplies would be sold off or stolen for basic needs usually ending up in criminal hands. Look at Japan and south Korea, that should be the motivation Africans need. Currently their problem is basic things like food, housing, and education which should be a simple enough basic requirement. They need to suck it up and work hard to be proud Africans and stay away from the ulterior motives of countries with get rich quick schemes. They will take away your freedoms... I hope Africans wont have to learn the hard way.

The game is changing. But my advice and wish for African leaders and African people is, we don't have to stop thinking that, by our own we can do a good things if wake up and do our efforts to do better. Africa is providing food to Europeans but still suffering in hunger in our Africa. Therefore, let's do a special effort to make new Africa, educationally and economically. We shouldn't be an instruments to the outsiders to exploit us. I warn to the outsiders living in Africa which litting fire within African to exploit the resources of the land. Maybe you haven’t looked for speeches from other leaders. There is a leader who has been defying the western powers for decades and going the total independent route with the belief of Trade instead of Aid That leader has been vilified by western media and Al Jazeera itself. No one wants bring his idea to light because it is too dangerous for the colonialists. He is the president of Eritrea the biggest headache of America. He is changing the thinking of the people in the Horn of Africa to be independent of western supremacy. We in the Horn of Africa are very proud people anyway we don’t allow anyone to dictate us based on our identity. That’s why we kept our religion and language. I find people of this era are emotional not critical thinkers. They judge people by what they say not what they do. We have a lot of charlatans like this lady. Why is she not addressing the current crisis that is driving young Africans out of African instead of taking about African Americans? America is as much as their as it is for whites. I believe the western countries are paying her to get rid of blacks from America and the Caribbean. They would love to rid of black people.

Same as the idea of turning other human beings into slaves, subhumans... that was not due to any lack of understanding, it stemmed from the wickedness of their hearts. Thank God that they also die like every other human being... The pioneers of slavery thought they would live eternally... well, here we are, the world still exists with new humans, the muh#@$ are dead! This world needs humans who love each other regardless of race, religion and all else.

Very well said! Her courage in speaking the truth boldly is truly commendable. African countries have rich cultures and agriculture, yet they've faced neglect and mistreatment for a long time. As an American, I apologize for our actions, and I hope our government acknowledges its mistakes and takes a break, as you suggested, to rebuild relationships with fairness. Africa deserves equal recognition, just like European countries.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! The world needs to know this too. Africa will not be the last one on the list when everyone needs Africa's resources to keep their country running. Slavery is over and the atrocities which the African people in their home land and abroad must be addressed by the colonizer if a new road must be forged ahead. This is the greatest problem facing these colonizers, addressing their horrific past atrocities imposed on all Africans. The history of violence is very long and bitter, one which must totally stop if Africans are to work with their oppressors. Address their wrong which they've improved if restitution must be made, do it or leave the African alone!

In the 1950's heads of government and industry from the United States told our Prime minister to shut down our program to build an interceptor bomber aircraft. They then took some our scientists and engineers to help the Us to get to the moon.

1Africa1vision. Enough of white privileged and the west using and taking advantage on Africa’s resources. Africa really don’t need the west. We have the brain, the youngest population, the raw materials. Africa can choose who they want to partner into business with which should be more on industrialization , and they should keep their raw materials and manufacture for themselves. Africa can feed themselves organically and not importing all these genetically modified food which intrusive illnesses to the citizens. Refuse Monsanto seeds. Africa has seeds. Replicate and practice safe agriculture practices. Africa has the larger arable land which means Africa can feed the world if they did mass farming. The government needs to stop being self absorbed and greedy but look into thing that will be beneficial to the citizens along with then in generations to come. You can’t expect to eat today and destroy for no food tmrw. Africa needs education by it own knowledgeable people, teach out history to our kids, teach them hands on and tech Oni Al skills needed, create more jobs for the youth to reduce the brain drain in Africa and the senseless death of our youth dying in route on attempts to fleeing the country for greener pastures. Stop deforestation, plant 4 trees to every 1 tree that is cut down, value the mother land Africa, nourish it for its breast milk won’t flow forever.

The European ones are condescending, often come to interviews with their own talking points and don't deviate, and they interrupt their interviewees a lot, not to mention they also going on the attack when they feel they are losing control. I invite you to look at those interviews done by European journalists of Prez Paul Kagame.

Yes she is an an intelligent insightful woman but she should also address the incompetence of our African leaders. The reason Africa is not respected is because most of our leaders are corrupt to the core and will allow their countries to be exploited and all they will ask in return is you make their pockets heavier. A lot of African countries have had independence for over fifty years and they still can't provide clean sustained water supply for their citizens despite selling billions of dollars worth of resources to the Americans and Europeans. That's the level of corruption Africa has to deal with.
