I am south african. My family is of indian origin. My great grandfather was awadhi he believe vidya (knowledge) is the most important thing in life. He was one of the first indian teachers in south africa. His children became teachers and so did there children. In the 80s my aunty got a job in england, shes an english teacher. Imagine a south african of indian origin teaching english people english. Lots of my cousins and nieces and nephews are also teachers. My other grandfather was a vaidya and all his children ended up in the medical field. Im blessed to have come from a culture that values education. I'm proudly south african but bharat is also my home and holds a special place in heart ❤

There’s a reason millions of people emigrate out of India to begin with. Then there's the fact that indians in india lack opportunity to do much, rampant corruption, overpopulation, lack of education, poverty, economic divide, crime, etc. Indians do excel in the US because they adapt some american values like individualism and freedom and the thirst for money. Back in india it's impossible because of the hyper collectivist society and family oriented upbringing of indians. You'll find many mommy's boys and daddy's girls in india because they never developed as an adult.

Of course, I'm never going to compare with slavery that black people had to go through but we weren't given preferential treatment when we landed in Mauritius. On the contrary, the Catholic Church and the Franco-Mauritian elite made sure their converted slaves got better education than us after the British took over. Today we, along with Chinese Mauritians, represent the new elite simply because we do better at school

@@manovrsb Accessibility is key, I agree. That said, culture matters a lot. Among coloured migrants in Mauritius, Chinese Mauritians did better than us Indo-Mauritians at school and took a lead. We later had to catch up. It's probably due to the fact that they had a general value system that placed great emphasis on academic education. That same emphasis was more fluctuant among Indian communities and somehow lacking among creole (black) Mauritians The 500 best candidates at the A levels are ranked each year. Chinese Mauritians who represent 3% of the population make up 9% of the best candidates. In contrast, creole Mauritians who make up 28% of the population make up 9% of the best candidates too. The same pattern of chinese children doing better than indian children and indian children doing better than black children can be seen elsewhere. Even in the West, Jews outsmart non Jews by a significant margin because of a solid academic culture. I think we can all learn from each other. I would like to see black children more interested in science. That's where scopes for upliftment resides. I live in France now and specific black communities here are adopting education as a medium of progress like the Cabo Verdians etc. Unfortunately religion sometimes hinders progress like in the case of Malians. The African diaspora is so vast, huge and diverse that generalisation is not possible but I notice that those in small tropical islands somehow have a more pleasant mentality

Kamala Harris is also from indian origin. I read somewhere that "Kamala" in India means Lotus Flower. India's urban elite and middle class have great human capital. Many even study at Western universities. Or they send their children to study in these institutions. I've never been to India, but it seems to me that Indian families take their children's education very seriously.

Well happiness is not the correct word as I had no complaints there. Life was easy, I had decent income, decent living quarters, friendly neighbours, absolutely no hostility, people who respected my indianness, to be more accurate were actually awed by it. But still I felt an emptiness which just refused to go away. I have since always lived in india in almost all big cities of india. There have been weeks when I didn't interact with any human being. But I never felt empty at all. Every nook and cranny, every street, every tree, every hillock, stream, every village, every town, every city of india feels like home... hard to describe this feeling ... I really can't live outside india. Every person of indian origin knows this feeling. That is why they strive so hard to maintain connect with india.

Maybe some indians hates people who left india, but i love and respect those people, they are the main reason indian is no.1 in remittances in the world, they are not using the resources of this country but still supporting this country economy, alone indian American send approx 25% of total remitence to india As student who is studying in delhi in government school, i fell that they are far better than me because i am just using country resources but in return i am not giving anything to this country 😢
