Awesome video! I enjoy collecting different tennis racquets and playing around with different set ups. I am a counter puncher naturally, but I enjoy aggressive net rushing from time to time. For the past 3 years, I have been using the Prince Phantom 100p with a leather grip and 2 grams at 12. I usually have 2-3 different frames in my bag for fun. I also need more help with power against better players. I bought some used 2019 Pure Aero Rafa PJ. I customized the frame with silicone in the handle. The extra pop is nice on defense. I strung it with synthetic gut and poly cross at 50lbs. This combo made the frame much more comfortable than polyester. It will stay in the bag!

I also luv watching you compete in actual competitive matches. It's so much more interesting than racquet reviews. I actually like watching how differently you hit in matches because it's a complete reversal from how you practice. The fact that it's ITF is even more interesting. Keep this up.

Totally understand your needs. As i'm back competiing too, i realized my 100p Is Good 80% of the matches... But since i m growing, and competiing at itr 5+ , i can see why many players use their Aero...i m now going deeper into customization to make the FS nova the right weapon for those matches...and looks like a Key change. I totally understand this. I play with the current Radical MP. I love the feel of that frame. I’ve always preferred more control frames going back to my days of using Pro Staffs. Recently I played against a guy who was playing well below his USTA ranking. He was a level or two above me and used a Pure Drive. I felt very underpowered and made me question why I use more of a control frame.

Hi Jonas! Knowing that we like the same racquets, I can highly recommend that you try my setup if you are up for it. Customize the v8 16x19 with 20 g (12 handle and 8 sparsely from the 3-9 o clock-to 12). Change the shit stock grip for the head hydrosorb pro(old prestiges came with that one). Control, decent power, crisp but comfy, stability... I don't have a doubt you would love it.

I've been using the Prince O3 whites for a few years with some added weight, coming to about 11.8 Oz and 6 pts HL. I hybrid string with soft poly in the mains at around 51 lbs and multifilament crosses around 58 lbs. I like it quite a bit but as I get older into my 60s sometimes I feel that I'm late more than I should be, and that I should transition to something a bit more powerful and lighter. I guess I should playtest some rackets.

Just thrifted a 16x18 n6.1 95 and it is quite different from the 18x20 its definitely much more lively. Im also a more attack-oriented player i use the pro tour 280 and i love it. I understand the power drawbacks and the depth issue but I've just decided to live with it and stick with it and improve my game with it. It is not easy and i lose to players below my level all the time but i'm learning to just live with it!

Glad you try different racquets as after buying Aero I couldn’t resist ordering a Head Extreme MP waiting for that to arrive. Currently play with Head Speed MP which I bought to hit aggressively with spin since then realised that worth trying pure spin racquets as that is how I want to play. If I find that too demanding I can go back to the Speed. I also may enter some tournaments as I am 64 yrs and can hold my own against good 30/40 year old club players at singles I wonder if I could do well in an over 60’s singles tournament if I can find one in the UK ? Thanks for all your content Jonas.

Hello Tennisnerd (Jonas?) - I like your revievs a lot. My natural swing style is that I have too much spinpotential, long and powerful swings. I started with a Head Instinct (that was the raquet Miss Sharapova used), then bought and older Head Extreme, with which I could play my one hander better, because of the round head shape. Then I bought the Babolat Pure Aero 2019 version, with that I had a really good serve and tons of power but it lacked control an the ball lift off the raquet was too high when playing from the T-Zone. A year ago I bought the Yonex VCORE 95 (310g) and put a lot of lead on it (from 9 o'clock to 3 o'clock) and it suits my game style more. Love the new raquet, is also good for one handers (backhand).

The middle point that you are looking for is a Head Speed MP. 100 head size, bigger sweet spot, more spin and power than a 98, 60 RA from a control racquet, 23mm constant beam, 330 swing weight, 300 grams. Everybody is saying that: Want a Aero with less power and more control? Go Speed MP. Want a Blade or Radical more spin friendly, bigger sweet spot, more forgiving, higher launch angle and power? Go Speed MP. Want a Ezone with more feel and control? Go Speed MP.

Hey Jonas, I can definitely relate to that testing different racquets and strings are part of the fun of tennis! For a middle of the road frame, why not the Pure Aero VS? It has the benefits of the regular PA but in a more control oriented package. Or even the regular 2022 EZ98, customized to your specs since the Tour version is a bit demanding on your one handed BH.

Great video! I’ve been in the same boat this year for some reason. In my head I always like to have one racquet and have 4 or so of them all matched perfectly and stick with them but as I get older I sometimes don’t always feel the same from day to day with my body, opponent, mind, or style. I’ve been switching a lot lately with liking a racquet then selling them and buying something new because I need something else, but I’m thinking maybe I should stick with 2/3 different but similar sticks in the bag and use what suits me for the day. Not like I’m going pro anytime soon lol So YES, I can definitely relate to wanting different sticks for different situations. Might have to try doing that rather than the one racquet thing from now on.

LOL I have 5 different rackets in my bag! Thought i was crazy! I have 300g Angell TC 97 18x20, New TF 40 18x20, Prince tour 100p 2015, Prince tour 100 16x18 2017, & finally my latest the new KI5 295 16x20 (actually 292g) now 322g with leather grip over grip 2g of lead at 2 & 10, this bumped up power & plough. Got to say this & the 100p have become my Fav but i do alternate especially if i am playing bad! I find some times the change boosts me! LOL its probably all in my head! The Prokennex is very comfy as is the 100p. I play old school tennis flat etc. However I do find the lighter 100 tour generates more spin, its beefy SW still allows me to hit a decent flat shot! The KI5 doesn't help with spin, very controlled great comfort maybe a little 2 dampened compared to the 100p. One more thing the KI 5 is suppose to be 100sq" However after pairing it up with the 97 angell & the 100p, surprisingly i found it more a 98" ! The 100p hitting area was definitely bigger than the KI5! Still its a solid racket & didn't have the tinny feel that the previous Q5 had. (not sure what the yellow Banana Q5 feels like. How did you find them Tennis nerd?

Having 5 different rackets is probably overkill, but in these poly days, having more than 2 of the exact same does not really serve a purpose. I've been thinking of having the same model but only two of same spec, then one maybe lower tension and one higher tension. Or possibly similar but more powerful one, then another similar but lower power racket model. Still thinking about this. I do have two rackets that are same model (Phantom Pro 100, 3g+3g at 3+9, 10g blutack) and strings. I try to alternate them a bit, as I hate it that I always seem to have a favourite, even with two rackets that are the same (as close as possible). Now ordered a 100x 305, hoping for a little more power at the net and in defense, let's see...

String choices. Also your technique. Control is always going to be a compromise with this racket if you take wild flat high risk swings. It will also punish the common amateur mistake to go too wide too often. With this class, you must bring your own control. For flatter hitters, it's perhaps best to ensure you swing for big targets but try to apply a lot of pressure with big swings. Modern topspin players though should have no trouble controlling an Aero because the spin access should be a massive safety net allowing you to swing away and get margin for error through spin. If you're hitting out, add more spin. Or adjust your timing in general. Perhaps increase string tension or use a string with a lower launch angle (when you increase tension you decrease the launch angle, which decreases the distance the ball is thrown (not pace)). Remember as well that its power is relative. Many elite professional players, even ones using control rackets, have setups more powerful than a stock retail Aero. In fact, heavier retail control offerings like the Yonex Vcore Pro 97 330 are more powerful. The reason for this is hitting weight, the biggest factor in power. Hitting weight is effective weight at different points of stringbed, which is not the same as static mass of whole racket. So the Aero feels powerful because it achieves higher and a larger area of high hitting weight values than most retail rackets, especially ones around its weight. The better the hitting weight the more the racket wins the battle of ball Vs racket. The end result of this is the ball gets pushed through court further and faster. And because the aero has a wide area of high values, you gain more consistent depth and pace, which is especially handy under pressure. That's obviously a good thing. As you increase hitting weight you also increase control, stability, and comfort as well, which can be another way to gain comfort/control here (the aero has a lower base control and comfort score because of other factors, hence why even with high for weight class hitting weight values it's not beating other rackets like how it does with power). Note that where you add weight alters the size of the area you choose to enhance the hitting weight of and also where that area is on stringbed. I'd say many control rackets are actually partially underpowered more than a power racket like the Aero is overpowered, in the bigger picture. Stock Vs stock (retail). It's getting less so with modern control offerings though, especially spin focused control rackets like the Pure Aero VS and the Yonex Vcore 98. In my control racket days I had them at advanced beefy specs to compensate for their lack of ideal hitting weight values.

  • @Tennisnerd

I do like the string I used, Dunlop Explosive Bite, but if you have a sensitive elbow it might not be the right string. I added weight for stability and plow-through, it's hard to customize an already powerful racquet for more control because when you add weight to the head you add swing weight and that means more power.

It was pretty funny though seeing someone else come up to you and ask if you were the Tennisnerd, and then your hitting partners laughing with you. To answer your questions, no, I just stick with one model of racket. I also think your ezone tour issues are maybe due to the weight of that stick. You might be better off with the regular ez22. I find it crazy having 5 different rackets in your bag haha :D That would never work for me. I currently stick to my customized Ezone 98s. What I sometimes do is having different tensions set up that I can switch to depending on different factors 😅

I’m the opposite. Against a weaker player, I have more margin for error, so I swing bigger. I double-bagelled a guy with my Pure Aero, before I sold it due to arm pain. Against better players, I become a counter-puncher, so I hope to win with better control. And, yeah, unfortunately I get that with a different frame, Pure Strike.

@@jamesonvu4825 it depends on your style. I have been really liking my polys in the 45 to 48 lb range as I’m still getting control but ball pocketing is enhanced because of the lower tension. Poly tour pro gives a surprising amount of crisp, spin and I feel like that string goes well in just about any racquet. If you string it too tight though (as with most polys), it becomes board like.

I tried this racquet today and it felt good to me. I am 43 yrs old NTRP 4.0/4.5 player with bit of elbow issue. I use Yonex ezone 98 with Gosen Sidewinder (a very soft poly). I really like Babolat PA. I would also like to try Wilson Clash 98, but there are no demo racquets for that. Hence asking you, i will only choose Wilson Clash for it's comfort. i want to know your opinion between Babolat Pure Aero (RA 65) Vs Wilson Clash 98 V2 (R 60) for my particular case. Can I make Pure Aero is soft by using softer strings and lower tension, coz i know that I liked it, not too sure about Wilson clash. I do like to put some spin on the ball and Babolat Pure Aero allowed me to to take bigger cut at the ball, the older version was not that great, tried that too. Spec with Wilson Clash 98 or 100 pro looks good because of the extra string 16x20, assuming that will give me more control. So a bit confused here, tough to make decision just based on specs :( Would appreciate a response @tennisnerd.

I am one of the biggest racquet changers in Hungary (Denis Timár can tell) :D I think, all non-professionels should use at least 2 kinds of racquet. One for the good day, when you have strenght, good knees, ect., and one for the bad day, when you feel week and can't hit the ball over your own T with a Prestige :D ... or just accept loosig on your bad day This is the cheaper solution...thay say 🤣

Depending on the conditions I try not show up on court with no more than 4 frames and leave the rest it car. Preferably in shaded parking. "I don't want to appear that much of a Nerd" 🎾 🤓

RTA (Racquet Testing Addiction) as you so nicely put it, Jonas, might well be your downfall in your development on court. You are quite literally being spoilt for choice. I guess Fernando Verdasco was the highest profile player who suffered from that. I’m clearly hooked on your informative channel nevertheless.
