This guy is morphing into a joke. When I started watching him, he was giving useful info but lately he is all about self promotion. And one to ask, where does an ex-forestry employee amass the funds to support his “toys” and clothing. I am sure. that many others have similar questions.

The screen share software that i assume they recommended is two way and you must likely unknowingly gave them free access to youre entire computer. Hopefully thats not the case but if you have any sensitive info on the computer it could be a problem. They may even still have access right now.

@@joshb8302 no, the only thing I’m assuming is that he would have said something if he downloaded a whole other program while on a zoom call where it’s one button to share your screen. Cody might have fallen for the scam but I doubt he’s so foolish that he’s downloading a whole other program while he’s talking on a program that allows you to easily and securely share your screen much easier than on something like anydesk. Besides that, we all are making assumptions, you assume he’s using anydesk and I assume he’s telling the story accurately.

Sorry you were hacked. The Facebook posts didn’t align with your character at all. You’ve still got a loyal fan here. Thank you for the great content !

The screen sharing was a big mistake. They can secretly get into all your files you had on that computer. It'll be bigger than FB. I hope I'm wrong but there'll be more

He was screen sharing not letting them control his desktop. I assume they had him changing settings and in the midst of that had him lower his security settings so they could brute force the password or they may have even convinced him to change his contact for password reset to their email or phone number.

I think the reason all this happened was not 'trolling', but severing connections between like-minded people. Ditching facebook is not the answer. Being productive and wise using facebook is the answer.

It happened to a classic car dealer I know. Facebook refused to help and eventually he had to just make a new account. Facebooks support is notoriously useless

I learned my lesson back in the day I'll never screen share with anyone again! Make sure to change all your passwords to anything you've accessed with that laptop. You got this brother!

Stop using the computer you used while doing the settings thing on facebook and restore the OS back to factory. If you used that computer to change all passwords, new passwords are probably compromised.

Remote access/screen sharing software will let you install/run/use software/commands in the background without the user knowing everything that is going on behind the scenes. So it's definitely possible that computer was compromised. @@PrinceMeat

He did a screen share and according to his description of event he was the one taking instructions on what settings to change. Unless he downloaded something, which is unlikely, there’s no reason to suspect that the computer itself is compromised. This is more like a confidence scam where you get the target to do all the work for you, not a targeted system attack where you use a RAT or some sort of monitoring on the computer.

That's a new one. There's a guy on KZread, Jim Browning, that does videos on stuff like this. As soon as I heard "screen sharing", I had a vague idea of how they did it. Hopefully nothing else is compromised.

Sorry that you had to deal with this. Even many of us that consider ourselves internet-savvy sometimes fall into these hacker traps. Hopefully Facebook can sort it out.

I love how according to some fb comments their screenshots to warn you were taken down but the original stories are still up. Fb really makes it easy for scammers, so many public groups are filled with spam/scams and when i block them i get a message that i only blocked one of their profiles but i cant block all of them at once

The real reason you were hacked is so the hacker can silence you and have people "unfriend" you on FB and here on YT so you lose followers and revenue. They are jealous of your success and/or do not share the same values that you do, and therefore are trying to bring you down. i am glad to see you are fighting back and that hopefully, at some point in the near and not too distant future, this will be resolved, and you can go back to doing what you do best. I have over 20 years exp in internet security and I'm 100% convinced this was done via an exploit in the remote desktop feature/protocol or a similar protocol in Windows. So when you screen shared you gave them access and permissions to do a lot of stuff. Even upload files. The file they probably uploaded would have been a persistent file to regain access to your computer later(persistence) even after you disconnect and even after you reboot and also a keylogger to download and read every single thing you type on the keyboard from that point on. I say this is highly likely because Facebook often or always requires you have email access as well to change your password so they probably have everything at this point in order to do that. Be thorough in your future security measures across the board. Good luck.

​@@ddou3992 IP address are not permanently linked to a computer. The IP your computer gets (a so called local IP) isn't even accessible from outside of your own home network. Your home router translates the computers IP to a IP assigned by your ISP. However, if you suspect a computer is comprised by some virus or other malicious software, a fresh install of the operating system is a relatively easy way of cleaning everything up.

I have someone messaging me saying that I have copyright infringements on my business page and that I should call them to resolve the issue but not mentioning specific infringements and I blocked them and they keep sending the exact same message from a new account every time I block them

Real supporters as myself, knew what exactly is going on & how your page got hacked. I myself have fallen for this type of scam, however, it is as simple as opening a link and boom you’re hacked. Hope you gain access to your FB and keep up the great Homestead content.

Social engineering is I think how this happened. If I understand correctly you shared your screen with this alleged employee and he "helped" you optimize your FB settings. My guess is he got you to remove some security off something in your setup on FB. Never ever share you screen with someone unless you are absolutely sure of who they are and properly vetted. I hope ya'll can get this all sorted and cleared up ASAP.....it's just a crappy thing to happen to good folks.

Sounds like he had access through the screen share and was able to get a auth token from your browser session and has used that to get access to your account.

@@OGPatriot03 they would need access to the device he was using, likely via the screen sharing software but the token isn’t visible as such but if they know where to look they can find it. It would likely expire in an hour or so, not sure with FB tokens but long enough for the person to use it, reset the password and get around any kind of multi factor authentication.

I don’t know if it would help, but there’s a few anti-hacker KZread guys who routinely scam the scammers, gain access to their computers and delete all their files, as well as exposing their real names and locations. I’ll try to find one guy’s name in particular. All that probably won’t actually help, but maybe contacting someone like that may get you a guy who knows a trick to regain control of your facebook account.

So sorry. I saw the questionable content yesterday and was like "WTF?" I thought someone created a duplicate account or something but it makes more sense that you were hacked.

My dad almost fell for the same thing when contacting what he thought was Amazon support. When he downloaded and enabled the screenshare and they had him go into his settings, I told him to end the call. Sad that people have to do things like this to others.

For now, I have reported & unfollowed that FB page as the "Scorched Earth" approach is all that can save that and you'll have to start a new page anyway. Consider that FB page dead and infected my brother and just know, if you can't see them in person and there's a thick accent, then whatever it is, you don't need it. I thought it was strange too... standing in the middle of the boat show on Sunday 01 - 21 - 24 and this BS Facebook story from Wranglerstar shows up at first I thought Hmm maybe he wanted to rant on the LGBT crowd... it seemed like a guy in a one piece ladies swimsuit...

It's a real risk that all content creators have, not just the ones with millions of followers like yourself. My account was hacked a couple of years back, and it took me about three weeks to finally gain access to it. And you're right; there's no one on Facebook that people can access to help with things like this. I pray that you are able to get it resolved quickly. Let us know when you do so so we can follow your Facebook page again. As of now, I've had to unfollow it because of the trash that was showing up on my phone.

Don't need to see the password or even have a key logger. PtH (Pass-the-hash) attacm can bypass if you have admin rights on a windows pc.

If he emailed you a PDF contract or other documents, that was probably how it was done.
