I went through that a few years ago. That's when I upgraded to a desktop and control my filing system to ensure RAM and ROM speeds were behaving correctly. Best decision I ever made.

I have the STEAM folder on an external SSD with no issues at all. I have a studio Glyph drive & absolutely love it. None of those issues you described, so it seems like you don't have the right hardware & blaming the software instead. As an educator, thats not how you should be mentoring new producers. Especially when Omni is the industry standard these days.

Yeah, external SSD is the way to go. I use it too. Also i use Soundpaint which has large libraries, and never had any trouble.

Yeah I was about to say that’s a non-issue and even if you need to you can create an alias folder. That’s also way the loop hole for any program that doesn’t let you move the content folders around

I have the same issue as you mate; I run my VSTs from an external SSD to Cubase 11 Pro on my laptop due to limited memory space. I'm thinking twice about buying Omnisphere now. I know it may be sample-based, but still, I don't think they had to make it such a massive size. Or they should've at least given options on how much of the programme to install, or provided a less power-intensive "Lite" version.

you can use the thunderbolt port on your computer to get better performance and more space.. but you need to check which speeds your mac are supports and buying a storage device with the same transfer speed.. by this way you can get a real change.. try also to use an nvme ssd external drive..

I have omnisphere with the sonic expansions running fine on my LaCie external SSD. When I first installed omnisphere I installed the steam folder to my external SSD. Try a fresh install and select SSD for steam folder location

if you have a fast external its fine or just install a 2nd ssd on your computer and it all loads instantly. omnisphere is nice to add as layers to exsiting mic/instruments i find

@@busyworksbeats coming in really late but great channel. what I would try to add is for you to point your content from Omnisphere..or all of your plug in content even but especially in spectrasonics, point to your new folder on your external drive(spectrasonics instruments for example) and you do that in NI Access but you probably will have to reinstall everything to point it in the new direction. Headache for sure but thats the only way I can save my hard drive space.....apologies for chiming in

Question. Have u ever used an E-Mu rack. I began music production with an E-Mu MP7. I realize these are vintage sounds but I like the ol skoolness of them especially for Larry June type beats

This is so true. I feel exactly like that about Kontakt...There are some tools I haven't used in a while.

Not sure about omni but in keyscape under settings there's an option if you move the steam folder. And yeah I noticed a lot of the UK Drill production has live instruments which makes it tough to remake

Completely off topic what type of controller do you use? On your camera views? I always see you hit that button.

i no longer use Omnisphere as I find the sounds too dense and a little on the wooly side.

Just upgrade your internal hard drive to a bigger size cause the more plugins the more better. that’s what I did and I kept Omni for years now with no issues. Also your absolutely correct about live instruments they have way more character and there always a must have in any studio.

@@rigel4211 well first things first i would purchase a 250g to 1tb ssd hard drive and to install it for (desktop only not laptops) is to connect the power supply cable hint the bigger sata plug from the power supply then plug in the data sata cable which is the smaller one into the motherboard sata port then turn on your pc after connecting the hard drive and motherboard together and it should automatically appear as like drive :D or :E on windows then re install omnisphere on to the disk by tweaking the install location in the install menu after that scan plugins in that directory in your daw, mark as favorite and enjoy. now for laptops your gonna need a external hard drive and thos plug in by usb and are fairly straightforward but they are expensive for larger capacities

Interesting! I wonder why it was so slow on external. I put my libraries on external SSD and have zero problems with latency running Omni. I am on M1 Pro though so perhaps that is why

Kind of like you have no idea what you're talking about?

I'm not really up on MacBooks, but I know in PC Laptops, you can typically put a second SSD in the same drive cage as the main SSD. So you'd have a second SSD operating at the same speed as your main drive. I would be very surprised if you couldn't do this on a MacBook. I'm on a PC desktop, and I got a 4TB SSD on sale for about $230 last year. I'd maybe look into doing that. External enclosures can be fickle when it comes to bandwidth and connection speeds. That's been my experience. Hope you get it sorted man, there's no way I could live without Omnisphere. And you shouldn't have to, even if you're able.

Your hard drive is in the wrong format that is why it aint working correctly. Chances are the SSD you are talking about is in a FAT32 format which is not suitable, it should be in APFS format and you will not have a problem.

external SSD Samsung T9 with SymbolicLINK works perfect for me with 230GB on a 2TB which is mounted on my Macbook Case

He’s not lying my gear is almost full having all this stuff.

i have it all on my external hard drive, keyscape trillion and omnisphere is on my comp but the sounds are on the external hard drive works fine ...wow

My studio computer only has Cubase and VSTs. There are no other programs on it. It's maxed out CPU and RAM and internal space. It would be a top end gaming computer if it had a graphics card in it.. but its purely for production and mastering. My graphics card is basic, but its passive too along with all the water cooling so I have no fans in my computer. It's silent and deadly! Still have 3 screens running off it though.

Unless you're external hard drive isn't also ssd idk why it takes a second. I use an m.2 for both internal and external on 3.2 usb c. You can replace both. If not I would say you should look into replacing the internal to m.2 ssd 4tb or its time for a better computer. Ps most people don't use a laptop for home studio. Sounds like you would have the same problem with internal instruments. They take a ton of space too.

I was in your shoes awhile back. As a lifelong Mac user, switching to a Windows based platform was a game changer. I got tired of the Apple “Pro machine” song/dance and lack of upgradability. As a PC user, a $50 internal m.2 SSD would have solved your problem, just as it did mine. I still use my Mac for other things, but no longer for music.

Bruh I don't get the point tho, you can get a 10 TB hard drive for only 200-300 nowadays so there is really no excuse in this day and age, system space is available at a near unlimited amount in 2023 at more affordable prices than EVER

I don't know why you would ever purchase a Macbook for music production, one of the worst decisions you could ever make. They're completely overpriced and are known to have a lot of bugs, other than if you use Logic Pro there is no reason to ever buy a Macbook over a Windows Laptop (if you wanna travel around with it) or just a normal desktop and then you can have 10+ external drives to get how ever much space you want

What folder do you save the library too on extra interal?

Youll need to create a sym link from the original folders location to the new location

having this same problem at this very moment

I have a BUNCH of VSTs, Ableton Live 11 Suite and Reason 12 along with Omnisphere 2 on my PC. That ate up all my SSD space, so I ended up just upgrading from a 1TB SSD to a 4TB SSD and that solved the issue. I'm swearing off any more VSTs in the future (unless there's a deal for something i want that cant be passed up lol).

If your computer support big drives, Simply buy an 4Tb drive of the same brand of whatever internal drive you use, and use something like Macrium Reflect Free Edition to Clone your 1Tb drive to the 4Tb drive and replace them. The 4Tb will have the same setting with all the drivers as the 1Tb drive with extra space.

Here's the external SSD that you need for off-loading Omnisphere, Kontakt, etc - A blazing fast 4 terabyte ScanDisk SSD. Feels like you never left your internal SSD - i.e SanDisk 4TB Extreme PRO Portable SSD - Up to 2000MB/s - USB-C, USB 3.2 Gen 2x2. Spectrasonics has instructions on how to install their stuff to external drives - and it works like a charm. IMHO..You will be cutting your nose just to spite your face if you leave Spectrasonics :)

I went through the exact thing, I’m just sticking with kontakt, at least with kontakt you can load up all your libraries on your external hard drive

I took it off my computer as well for the same reasons like you I also moved the steam folder to a SSD and had the same issues……So I bought the komplete ultimate collection and im able to install those instruments to my SSD and the work beautifully and not to mention I absolutely love these instruments way better but this is my opinion…..

I stopped using Omnisphere because of space. I faced really hard time at that movement.

What the heck are you using? A netbook?😂 large HDs are inexpensive and abundant nowadays.

Nexus 2 is my favorite VST.

Anytime you compare agianst the "competition" (OMNISPHERE) you HAVE to build a Mind Image... aka use a VISUAL, aka screen record and SHOW that you are better. :) you are though, so -PROVE IT.

First of all dude, why you doing production on a laptop? That's like DJing with a Walkman. You need a Desktop PC with the capacity for 8 hard drives. Hell I'll build it for you. Hit me up if you want help, I'm a computer technician. I'm running Omnisphere, Keyscape & Trillian on one TB internal slave. Nexus is on another slave drive, and I have at least 4 TB of Kontakt Libraries. All running smoothly and comfortably.

My Steam folder is 241 Gb 😀 Apple ecosystem is not so friendly with your pocket when it comes to music production software storade space needs.

I haven't cared of Omni for a while.. It has some nice sounds.. but too few that I actually like/use FOR the price.. AND for the Amount of space it takes on your hard drive.. so many other options.. to use..

I seen it and read the reviews. Wasn't for me. I use Heat up 3. I got that and a bunch of expansions for it. Better for me instead of using omnisphere. Not as big space wise, but not as expensive either.

get a mac with more space. copy your harddrive over. keep going on. or just use an external drive for it ? I use an external nvme drive in a metalcase for all the large stuff and vsts and samples etc. Just use symbolic links and it works great, and is super speed. Thats the cheaper route. Otherwise buy a mac with 8TB :)

Dude with OMNISPHERE alone you can get rid of every other plugin, and cover every genre of music.

For a producer that worked with all those names you are flexing, maybe buy a mac with a bigger hard drive. Also, you CAN move libraries to external SSDs. I use Spectrasonics stuff for 20 years or more now since first Atmosphere and Triology (old Trillian) and we all know it always took a lots of space. So that is your argument to get rid of the arguably the best VST? lolz. learn to format your drive homey.

I bought Omnisphere 2 many years ago, but never liked it. It's got too many useless sounds. Not a single decent bass sound, not a single usable piano sound, not a single usable pad sound. I see other producers making music with Serum and Nexus, and they sound so much better. I'm thinking of getting rid of Omnisphere 2.
