My mom is from down south, born and raised. Her brother walked across the bridge with Martin Luther King and was hosed and attacked by police dogs, a courageous family, but they never knew about their African heritage. I married a man from the Caribbean who taught us about our people and Africa. He has watched Wode Maya since he was back in China and so did I. My mom moved to Florida to live with us and now she loves Wode Maya and Africa….Now through him we’re off to Brazil 🇧🇷! Go Wode Maya!!! May The Most High guide your steps.

I'm Brazilian, and I can say without a doubt that this info is simply NOT true. Brazil does not have the amount of blacks you claim. This data is constantly been told about Brazil but no matter how much ppl say it, it doesn't make it true. It's a fact. Blacks make up about 10% of the brazilian population, almost half the country is mix with white genetics being predominant but because of these mix ppl they add them up together with blacks in order to say Brazil has the most blacks outside Africa. But again this is simply not true and if someone goes to Brazil they will see it.

Welcome to the western hemisphere! Please spend time getting to know the local Afro-Brazilian diaspora and all the diaspora communities you visit that have gone through slavery, in addition to meeting recent immigrants from Africa. You will find that their cultures are different and worth exploring, and that slavery and civil rights are not the whole story. Thank you and welcome!

Hope you still enjoy Suriname 😉Lobi, brada ♥

Maya, do not feel bad about those negative comments. Most africans on the continent do not have the right info and where misinformed about the slave trade. That is why your mission is so important. Now they can see why you need to do this. The same way the diaspora learned that africa is not full of flies and hunger from your videos traveling across africa, same way the africans now will learn that slavery was indeed something that happend. I'm from Surinam, from the saamaka mix with okansi tribe. Mostly when ghanian see me in Holland they do not believe that i'm from Surinam. I hope you had a wonderful time with my people, the marroons😊

Wode Maya , I’m definitely going to contribute to your trip and I hope many others do the same to allow you to close the gap of our people. Your challenges are great example of how hard it is for Africans in the diaspora to get back to Africa. As an African American the financial commitment is sometimes too large for many to overcome. It almost seem strategic, I can go from the IS to the Caribbean and UK with no problem. But when it comes to Africa and Brazil . That’s a whole other story . Keep pushing the diaspora is watching!!!!!!!
