Why I Switched To Resolve after 10 Years on Premiere Pro !

Check out how the intro of the video was made ! • How I Made the Resolve...
Here's my feedback on Resolve 16 Beta, which I truly think is a big deal for editing and post-production. Also talking about a few of its limitations after switching from Premiere which has been my go to editor for 10+ years. Please correct me if some things are unclear or if I'm wrong :) Hope you like it !
Generally speaking, Resolve seems to be running flawlessly on Macs. On Windows it works very good on my side, but consider going for a good GPU (such as Geforce 1080Ti which is 7-8 times faster than the Geforce 1050Ti). In both cases, Mac & PC : performance is night and day when compared to Premiere !!
This video is not sponsored by Blackmagic.
The video was shot with an URSA Mini Pro and a Sigma 50mm ART lens. B-Roll mostly with the BMPCC 4K. It was edited, sound mixed, color graded and rendered on Da Vinci Resolve and the VFX parts on After Effects because I'm too new to Fusion. However, the intro sequence had 500 layers, it would have been MUCH SMARTER to do it inside Fusion, which is not based and not layer based.

@@RodCine Not worth it. They are a scam and a complete waste of money. They are twice as expensive as anything else with the same insides and Same performance if not better. Not to mention, that they choose to design their stuff with Form over Function, so the "high performance" ones have over heating issues. The GPUs in them for video work are God awful for what you paid for and that's the most needed component of an editing system. The best laptops right now with the best GPUs are the gaming ones because they are designed with graphics in mind instead of being an over priced luxury device. Dude, I've used Mac for over a decade just because I'm forced to use them because of the school and work I've been in, they fail too frequently, they are a pain in the ass to get serviced. I've used many systems in the past and the best ones are either custom built for specifically editing, special effects, and rendering, or a "gaming" computer. trust me dude, it's not worth it just because they look pretty and have a commonly circulated misconception that they are designed for creative work. If they were designed for that, they would have a much better GPU in them, have better compatibility with other systems to minimize the complexity of file sharing with other users and collaborations with other companies, not over heat as much, and be more easily serviceable to minimize downtime in a professional work flow. Macs are anything but professional by any means. They abuse the lack of knowledge most consers have about computers and exploit you to their advantage to make sure you don't buy anything else and you buy a new model as soon as you can. That's why apple stuff works so well with apple stuff than anything else. They have the capability to make their devices more compatible with other stuff but they choose not to. Don't get one, you will be missing out on a system that lasts longer, is faster to work with and more tailored to your needs instead of being forced to accept whatever specs they offer you. Don't be fooled by the pretty aesthetic and ecosystem. And dont let a multi trillion dollar abuse you.

I don't know about Premiere, but in Resolve there is a feature called "Live save" and it's rather a LIFE SAVE! It basically saves the project every second and if the program crashes, which might happen sometimes, especially using Fusion with the free version (without GPU rendering), you can simply restart it, open the project again and everything is how it was. I mean this is the freakin most insane feature I've seen yet. That makes Resolve usable even for people with a bad cpu.

@@AndrewFurmanczyk86 true, thats why I said that.. But your point is personal preference based because not many people know what Fusion is and have been working in after effects for yeaaarrsss you know.. they do these things inside AE because they dont know any program that can do it better. AE should make a change in layer technique and change it into sequences like Fusion.

well, still is, after effects is hands down the best tool for creating effects etc, and I think there is still no other software out there that could still be as better than after effects. I think the point of his video is focusing on premiere pro not in general of adobe products.

I'm absolutely blown away with the quality of this video - in literally every aspect: Informative, well shot, top quality graphics, well edited, data is accurate, and helpful. Surely you are using a more advanced Compositor (Nuke, AE) then Fusion? Or are you just that damn good. As a former VFX artist myself and Uni graduate with 15 years experience in post production, compositing and modelling in 3ds Max and Maya, as well as Colour Grading and archival restoration, I very rarely come across content on KZread which is of this level in presentation. Hats off to you mate, just subscribed.

Thank you so much for your nice comments ! Wish I had time to reply to all of you... what a supportive community, I'm quite lucky :) Extra notes along time following some feedback or new thoughts : - Don't forget Resolve 16 is in Beta testing and still unreleased so don't use it yet for pro work. - Premiere has Optical Flow, which I didn't know. - Resolve has very good collaboration features which I didn't mention since I didn't test extensively - No Prores export on Resolve on windows, it would likely rise the cost (Apple license). I use DNXHR, it's pretty much the same. - Subtitles are MUCH EASIER to handle in Resolve. - Warp Stabilizer in Resolve is less efficient than Premiere in my opinion, but good for part of the work - AAF export to Pro Tools in Resolve isn't perfect yet. - Relinking media files is more intuitive in Premiere - VFX in this video : After Effects. - Video was cut, edited, sound mixed and color graded in Resolve - Check out description for color grading tutorial channels that I like - The transition used to smoothly morph my talking head is "Smooth Cut" in Resolve. Also used the blur transition often.
