Can't agree more with you. I anticipate VC to continue go below MSRP. This year their took the direction to release exclusive custom pieces instead of releasing new existing hot models. Honestly, I would not blame VC for the price adjustments. The Richemont group definitely got ahead of themselves in raising their prices. Happened with JLC, Lange, Cartier, Van Cleef. Their online retail side of the business YNAP is losing money for almost a year, they had to do something to try and make money back.

I’ve also had to sell my 4500V black dial due to not wearing it from my collection. Was very lucky to sell during the peak at over 50% retail. Now I could’ve bought new at slightly under 5-10%. Buy what you like and enjoy, that’s the best advice I received.

Thank you for the review. Today, I expressed interest in Geneva boutique to buy SS black dial Overseas without complication. Perpetual calendar is not yet in my budget. The attitude in the boutique was superb, and I really liked the watch. You are right that buying watches as an investment is wrong strategy, unless you buy at retail and put it immediately to the vault for several years. In this scenario, there is no enjoyment of wearing the watch which completely messes the enjoyment of collecting. Not my choice.

As silly as it sounds, “some” malfunctions are acceptable as they (to me) indicate a human simply made a mistake, had a bad day, was distracted, was hung over etc. etc. If we wanted perfection we’d buy a Casio (overstatement obviously). This all goes out the window if it isn’t covered of course. Even then, so what, get over it, if you’re that angry, the watch doesn’t mean enough to you. Fix it, sell/trade it and move on.

Vc makes beautiful watches, no doubt. The problem is the horrible depreciation. People will say buy them used but still does not really save you from the depreciation. When you go to sell it most models are difficult to sell and dealers will want to give you drastically less than you paid if they will even take it at all. Some people believe when you buy something that’s extremely depreciated you getting a good value but you’re really just getting a product that was over priced to begin with and has low demand.

I am shocked that the rotor stopped working. And you mentioned this occurred in other Vacheron’s too. At this price point free $100 dinner or $20 coffee isn’t enough. All this money is being paid for the quality of the watch, experience is secondary after quality product is delivered. I was planning to buy VC chronograph but I did more research after seeing your video. I don’t think VC deserves to be called a grail watch. Instead A. Lange & Söhne should be in its place as a holy grail and the second option would be JLC. It’s my opinion. But I think everyone would agree with me that at this level and price no matter what the reason might be, they should not malfunction so easily.

Kudos for the honesty. Loved this episode that was put out. VC is an amazing brand which is deserving of the status as one of the trio of the holy trinity. However I think management really dropped the ball when it came to managing the hype and building the brand. No surprises that they are now suffering immensely. It’s hilarious how they thought they were on route to stardom like the likes of AP and PP. in fact they probably thought they were going to cover all the ground lost in a much shorter span of time than the duo. All that unrealistic expectations and change in the level of service and attempts at bundling and following the likes of AP and PP really did them in. Today, it’s more expensive than ever to buy VC and likely the trust in the brand is eroded as money is better parked in AP or PP be it for status, or value retention.

That VC Perpetual movement needs sorting out - the month dial is almost unreadable. I bought a bespoke early 70's VC in white gold with the same base ultra-thin movement as in your perpetual (the 1121, the date only version) for about £900, pristine condition - that tells you what these things are really worth, and they aren't worth anything like retail.

Honesty and transparency. The covid years were just so surreal and I just felt compelled to sell all of my watches except the couple (ironically the cheapest watches I owned) that my father, who has passed away, gave me. Luxury watches are consumables and very very very very few will actually appreciate value in a significant way. You have to get lucky and to pay a lot for basically perfect storage and maintenance to see appreciation. Rebuilding my collection now. I didn't turn down my overseas allocation.

I have approximately zero sympathy for rich people who lose money on buying watches they didn't really want and just kinda wanted a shiny thing that they could have for free for a little while. it demeans the really passionate watch collectors without those kinds of means who couldn't care less what value their watches were and weren't lucky enough (yes LUCKY - being Vacheron Perpetual Calendar-level wealthy has literally nothing to do with hard work or intelligence) to be able to fully express their passion. and then we sit through and watch this drivel just so we can see the things that you people barely care about and fret about their value and gush about "the buying experience" because what really matters to you is being pampered. get bent.

@@gackerman99 no it really doesnt, it requires initiative to create your own company rather than working for someone else, the hard work and intelligence to scale it. luck can help but its by no means required. Your problem is you didnt find a way to build wealth using equity instead working on a salary. You have no financial sense and thats why you cant afford the watches you want. You chose the wrong path, equity is all, equity above all else is the only thing that has the potential to generate "fuck you" money and if your career path does not involve owning equity it can not generate fuck you money

This is a terrible video. You vacillate back and forth on your opinion and what you're saying doesn't make sense. For one, it sounds like you didn't really like the watch as you mention in the first 5 minutes due to the fact you had other watches in your collection, or on loan, that you preferred. At 4:48 you said, "I wasn't wearing it much." Then when you talk about why you sold, you said, "I wore the absolute hell out of my 4300v." Look, your opinion is your opinion, but don't speak out of both sides of your mouth. You weren't wearing it, you changed your mind, which is your prerogative, but you didn't wear the absolute hell out of it at all. I'm not sure how they sell VCs in Singapore, and maybe this is because your purchase experience was a few years ago, but in the US and on the global website, when you buy an Overseas, you get 3 bands, including the bracelet you lament not having. I hate when people buy watches they don't really like to begin with, only to complain the watch didn't live up to expectations. As people have pointed out, if you are building a collection, the number one priority should be do I like this watch, followed closely by, am I going to wear it?

This 4300v VCO didn't come with the bracelet, hence the gold deployant buckle, the straps that come with bracelet option comes with a pin buckle, just saying.

Watches are not bought because they are “needed” or because they are “practical”. They are bought my fanatics who love a really finely made object that provides unmatched style & exclusivity. . It is an elite, ultra-luxury segment, where, frankly, 134K is about the entry point. It only goes up from there😂

It’s jealously when someone has to knock another watch enthusiast for what they paid for a watch. If you are a collector and someone that has the resources and enjoys art on there wrist why not. I’ll bet the naysayers can’t afford any luxury timepiece, they don’t have the money so they have to knock others to make themselves feel better, what a shame.

@abhaig mist of the price of those watches is almost entirely due to perceived status. Very little of that price is due to tangible qualities such as quality of materials and style. It's similar to the tulip craze in Holland in the 18th century. It's almost all due to psychological factors and very little to the watch itself. Only fools buy into that paradigm.

@timeisahumanconstruct9251 even if I were a billionaire I would not buy into that fool's paradigm. I would spend my money on items that are expensive due to their intrinsic value, not almost exclusively due to their perceived social status. That 134000 watch is equivalent to the over priced tulips in 18th century Holland. Yes, he is a consumer sheep
