WHY I SOLD 80% OF MY COLLECTION

Ойындар

I JUST WANTED LESS STUFF! I literally sold game that wasn't playstation, or didnt have some serious sentimental significance.
14k worth of games. Only regret selling 4 of them.
Thank you all for watching and staying with me this long

    I did something similar to you, except I sold off ALL of my physical collection and instead focused on modding, homebrew, and flashcarts. I did this because I realized that as I became older, I'd have less and less time and money to focus on just purely gaming. When I was in middle school i spent ever scent i had on video games and built up my collection because I had no other responsibilities. Now that i'm in college I have a lot more financial things to worry about compared to back then, so money became a lot tighter. Would I continue collecting if I had the money for it? Hell yes, without question But I have to be realistic and realize that these days I can't spend every scent that falls into my hands on video games anymore.

    I can totally see how you’ve minimised things a bit. I’ve done the same thing so many times. However I then find myself “rescuing” beat up/damaged consoles and giving them some love but after a while I pack them up and put them in the closet. It’s then sometimes hard to let go of them because you’ve done the work and given a console a new life and you don’t know if it’s future home will take as good care of it as you did. I’ve done it with CRTs too. On my 4th CRT now and found it on the side of the road. It’s stereo and has component. I don’t have any room for it so I don’t know why I do it! I’ll probably keep it for a while then move it on. ☺️

    Great video. Similiar thing with me. Im not really a collector but heavily into gameplay. Once emulation really blew up I sold all my old consoles and games. Currently I run everything from Wii and down on a fully fleshed out emulation PC. Accessibility and features are way beyond original consoles and theres no storage or equipment breakdown, games breaking over time. Save and Load states also allow way more efficient practice of specific sections which has allowed me to master and complete games much quicker. The physical games I own now are from consoles that arent well emulated or emulated at all yet mostly. They are all games I wanted to play at some point. I even beat and sell alot of full priced games to re purchase them later very cheap, when the console dies out. That way I can play through many new games for the price of one game and not have the game sit on the shelf unplayed. With the best new games I will go through them twice. Once on normal, once on the hardest mode but then they sit on the shelf usually. Eventually the games I own will most likely be emulated and sold as well.

    @@RETROGAMINGARTS ha ha. Nice. I still own over 600 games so I havent always been vigilante with buying, beating and selling over the years. There was alot of games I thought about revisiting sooner but it never happened. Usually once I go through a hardest mode in a new game Im done with it. Some games I only enjoy enough for a single playthrough. I noticed all that money was sitting on my shelf so I try to resell and experience the current games Im interested in that way. When the consoles die out all the games get dirt cheap anyway for the most part. I gained most of my 360 and PS3 games that way. I did play alot more online in the past so that did justify keeping some games. These days single player interests me the most because its easier to see goals being completed. After winning some matches online its difficult for me to really feel like Im driving toward a further goal. Online is very dynamic and different each time so its hard to get a feel for progression in skill. TheConsoleKiller name came about when a friend made that comment since I went through about 9 Xbox 360's. They often only lasted 3 months back then. I had one last under 24 hours. Atleast with RPGs you feel like you got your time and money worth most of the time, ha ha. Some of these new games are such quick kills and dont really have the replay for me. I have so many games in my backlog , old and new, that its hard to justify spending 100s of hours on a single game. Once I beat a game once or on the hardest mode my interest goes to hell.

  • @RETROGAMINGARTS

    @RETROGAMINGARTS

    3 жыл бұрын

    My interest usually goes after I beat a game once. Most games I've beaten I've only beaten once. And 100s of hours is hard for me to put into a game too. I agree with you. But dude. DUDE. Have you played persona 5? I'm 120+ hours into it. Near the end, and its kept my grasp every step of the way. Its soooooo good omg. I cant even begin to explain. It has so much personality

    @@RETROGAMINGARTS If I revisit alot of these modern games it will probably be many many years in the future. I remember them fondly but the motivation to get that kill is just not there, ha ha. I really enjoy adding games to the kill list so sometimes Ill beat a different console port of the same game just to motivate me to revisit a game. Its a little strange. I have to feel like Im doing something different, a harder setting or a different port. RE 4 was one of those games I went through many times over the years. Part of that was do to how mind blowing it was back then, the replayability and unlocks and having way less shit to play back then. There was another exception with Ninja Gaiden Black which I spent over 600 hours on when going for Mission Mode scoring which was brutally frustrating. I really got into that game. Part of it was because I had major weight lifting injuries and took myself out for 2 years. All my intensity went into really pushing myself in gaming and that was the right game at the right time for me to really invest myself in. Persona 5 was great. For some reason it took me 140 hours to complete in the menu, ha ha. Im sure that includes running time too but it lasted a LONG time. Even though it did drag at points for me I never really got bored with it. Usually I would hate that kind of story, high school drama type of shit, but the presentation was so good and it was very well written. It remained entertaining.

In fact, it got to the point where I would just buy multiple versions of the same games I like (usually from 5th or 6th generation systems) just to see what differences each version has, instead of buying new games I didn't want. All I personally want left is an NES (Maybe a Saturn but I don't have a way to justify getting one, really just Panzer Dragoon and Shining Force games), basically my logic is get 1 or 2 physical copies I REALLY want per console, and use a flash cart for anything else. Happy with what I got so far. As well as RGB modding them if needed. I like several of them as people and entertainers, but I have to question their voracity. There doesn't seem to be a common thread or theme with a lot of them. Metal Jesus is a great example. He releases "new pick ups" videos on a monthly basis and it will often be an amalgam of different games for different consoles. He'll have a new PS4 game, a SNES game, a Commodore 64 game, a Sega Saturn game, etc...In my old age I prefer to have a focus and a purpose to my video game collection. I really only buy games for a handful of retro consoles, and they are usually games that I either played in my youth or wanted to play but never got a chance to. I don't need 20 Atari 5200 games that I will absolutely never play.

    Collecting video games can be very expensive and take up a lot of space. A friend wanted to start buying a lot of Super Nintendo games because those were his favorite games as a kid. Not to collect them but to play them. I told him there was a way to get to play all the SNES games he wanted and not to have to pay a cent to get them and not have to store them. Download a SNES emulator and download ROMs of the games. He did it and said I saved him thousands of dollars. Plus I said no matter how many SNES carts of Chrono Trigger and Super Mario World he buys it is nothing new but exactly the same old game he remembers. I told him there are ROM hacks of these classics that hackers change the games and you can play new different versions of the games. There are fan retranslations of Chrono Trigger closer to the Japanese Super Famicom version and new versions where you can save Schala and one with a completely new area added. A completely playable 1999. I told him there are ROM hacks, at least a dozen of them, that are completely new versions of Super Mario World. The best reason not to get into buying a lot of original carts is you can play the games for free on ROM hacks on your computer with an emulator. I have told a lot of my friends the advantages of ROM hacks and they sold all their video games to get the cash and free up the space. All the Super Nintendo games you ever wanted on one little thumb drive AND completely new versions of old favorites. .

    Don't even get me going on rom hacks, because of this story I want to make a video about my vita and show it to you. I got some really cool fan translations on there, and I beat FF6 on gba and it was a rom hack with upgraded sound + color pallet. I'm with you 100%

    RETRO GAMING ARTS -glad someone is with me on the hacks. I don't want to discourage those who enjoy the collecting of the actual carts themselves and the thrill of the hunt at garage sales and thrift stores. But for those without money to buy the game carts or the time and patience to search and search for them and just want to play the games, SNES emulators and rom hacks are the way to go. Plus if you want to play RPG's like Final Fantasy V, Dragon Quest V & VI there are no original SNES carts because the games never were released here. A company called Timewalk games did put these games out on repro carts for those who want to play the games on carts on their Super Nintendo but that company is out of business and I have been told their repro game carts sell for over $500 now. So if you want to play those games they are only on ROM hacks with fan translations which can be more faithful to the Japanese Super Famicom game than cleaned up and dialog changed Nintendo releases.

    My only retro consoles are my Gamecube and 3DS, and I only have my 3DS because I can do so much with mods. Other than that I'm fine with Switch and PC. I used to have a pretty big collection of PSX, PS2, GB, GBC, GBA, N64, Dreamcast, Genesis, Wii, and Wii U. But I could get all the games I played on those elsewhere, there just wasn't a point in keeping them.
