I first realized he was on the floor because of his height in relation to the arcade cabinet. Plus there are a few videos of his guests like Andrew and Satan adjusting their legs.

This is an incredibly loose tangent, but wanted to say I find great comfort seeing you still doing this turning 50 years old. As a 28 year old, I wonder if someday soon I'll have to give up what I love because Im "too old for games/anime whatever". But seeing you still rock the floor talking about gaming at 50, gives me peace of mind. 🖤 🤘

Its so cool that you have so much footage and pictures of your life and you insert them in your videos to illustrate the stories you're telling. It really feels like watching a documentary of my favorite gamer's life.

If you want a documentary of someone's life, you should watch the Chris Chan documentary. Probably the most well documented person in history. But be warned, it's a horrible story.
You sit on the floor? Dude, my mind is blown. Somehow I never realized that and I've been watching you for at least 5 years.

Never knew you were sitting down. This is incredible.
“I enjoyed the experience of the table” - Johnny.
I’ve been watching your channel for years and never realized you weren’t sitting in a chair at a regular sized table 😂 now I’m looking at that arcade cabinet in a whole new way.

Now I’m questioning if it is an arcade cabinet at all 😂 I’m pretty sure he mentioned it in an episode at some point but man it really does look like a wall and mirror.
Seeing your old footage and hearing your passionate stories is truly the best. I’m a really nostalgic person and you keeping that table gave me goosebumps. You always treat us so well.
You continue to have a story for everything! Most people wouldn't be introspective enough to know their reasoning behind something as simple as sitting on the floor for all their videos. Thanks for the insight!
One of the first nostalgic moments I had with your show was recognizing that coffee table. I grew up with the same one in my parents house and when I moved out I took it with me to my first apartment. When I recognized it I thought to myself wow John's doing this entire show sitting on the ground? At first I questioned whether or not it was the same table because you make it look so natural.
I can relate. Growing up in the 80's and 90's, we had no choice but to sit on the floor to play the NES and Sega Master System. It was completely normal.
you....sit on the floor?! I have been watching for years and never noticed

Me too 😂
You don't have to explain anything to us ever but we love when you do.
I just turned 52 and I think I would have a hard time with that, despite liking to be very low to the floor. I have always loved the way your videos come across, like we are just sitting in your living room with you, discussing video games. No one else gives me that feeling. I hope that you can always continue doing this in the way that feels the most comfortable for you ❤
Just watched a guy spend 10 minutes explaining why he sits on the floor and I loved it. That's the magic of the HCG.
I always associated you sitting on the floor with my memories of playing video games 3 feet from the TV. I guess it’s something of a generational thing now. I used to sit at the coffee table, watch n the floor, and do everything.
The reveal when you stood up was a top 5 plot twist moment lmao. I never even thought you might be sitting on the floor.
As a fellow artist and diehard floor-sitter, I have a lot respect for the level of intimacy between you and that table, Johnny, thank you so much for sharing the whole story. This was such a delight of an episode!
OMG 🙆🏻♀ .. I never realised! 😊 I do exactly the same; but my table is very obviously a coffee table in the lounge, so I reckon my viewers realise that I'm kneel-sitting, Japanese style (great for my back). I remember pointig out to PoodlePa what a great setup you have. "Look! The HCG has got a proper desk he can sit at and do the video shoot!" I told him. 🤭 Great video ❤
I wouldn't have it any other way! Happy 15 years of HCG!!!!
What a great episode idea, I’ve always wondered that. Johnny with the hard-hitting top-notch content 🤘🏻❤️😆

Love this, and I sit on the floor a lot still to play games. It's nostalgic and I also grew up pretty much ONLY playing on the floor. Great video!
Dude you look amazing at 49, I feel like you are the perfect age for the video game world. So many great games and systems and you got to experience them all.
Johnny I think that sitting on the floor while using your table literally adds charm to the foundation of your show! Thanks again for the amazing video game memories that you share!
Been watching for 13 years and used to enjoy the parts of Rob standing up after episodes you left in, visibly in pain.
You smoking a cigarette in the living room and bringing your beer over to the TV to sit on the floor and pull out the PS 1 is the most authentically 90s thing I have ever seen. I love it!
I never thought in a million years that the answer would have such deep lore.
I could listen to Johnny telling a story about what he had for breakfast 😂. Great episode!
I never knew this. Definitely adds to the mythos of this show.
"Its my show and I can do it anyway I want." I love that attitude! I've been thinking of doing content creation (not on this channel) and you saying that has made me feel less self conscious, so thanks! Also I used to play on the floor too but then I had my spinal cord injury and now I can't which sucks but it is what it is. Awesome video as always!
Amazing video! I remember being blown away when I realized you were sitting on the ground.
Dude, I’ve been watching you for a while, and legit never realized you were even sitting on the floor.
This has blown my mind 😂 I had no idea! As soon as you stood up, it was like someone revealing an optical illusion! Lol
Kids today forget what it was like to have a tiny TV and short controller cords. Plus: To get that slight advantage in Mario Kart, you had to sit as close as possible to see that tiny half/corner of the screen.
Great episode, John! I get it man. When you’re sitting on the floor like this, it subconsciously puts you in video game mode. I always wondered myself when watching your videos. Glad to have it finally answered! Hope you and your family are well. I’ve been playing Final Fantasy IX and really digging it. I just arrived at the auction house. Not sure where to go from here. Working on it.🎉
More lore from my favorite story teller! Your personality’s input on current releases is always great, but your tales of the past are really something special :) Signed, a lifelong floor sitter
I remember the video you made when you turned 40, I was still in high school. When you said you're turning 50 I had to check my calendar for sec. Life really goes by quick.
OMG the 2000 timbits box so much nostalgia 5:41 !!! Very nice video John congratualation for you 15th years of the chanel big fan for a very long time !!! I am from Montreal area !!!
Classic HCG episode. Luv ya Johnny!
Love the backstory on your sentimental attachment to your parents’ coffee table. Also, I always suspected that you were either kneeling or sitting on the floor during your episodes… thanks for finally setting the record straight! 😂
I loved this. As a contemporary dancer and a gamer I have a really strong relationship to the floor. It’s where I feel the most comfortable, focused, and myself. Your video was super validating of my own experience.
I sit on the floor to watch film TV or play games. My parents and brothers in the 80s sat on all the chairs, and I always ended up on the floor. And now my kids and wife take the chairs and even though I have a chair I can sit in, I still sit on the floor. All my KZread videos I film standing up though.
I absolutely loved this episode! It was so wholesome and personal, and I loved hearing about your personal history gaming on the floor and drawing at your coffee table, I did a lot of the same growing up and it made me reflect on my own little safe space of drawing at my parents table. Amazing work as always, my dude!
0:32 my mind just exploded
I think this is a shared Gen X behavior. We grew up sitting on the floor in front of the giant console TV in our parents homes. We sat like this on the floor and played with Legos and action figures. We sat like this playing video games exactly as you describe. We sat like this in every assembly in school growing up. We sat like this in every group activity in class in elementary school. We sat like this watching TV in the dorms in college and hanging out in lounges at the student union. We sat like this in our first singles apartments when we couldn't afford furniture. We sat like this at parties in those first apartments when there were never enough seats to go around. So I think it is safe to say that sitting on the floor like this is a big part of the Gen X experience. Its a habit that has become part of our identity. Lord knows I still do it from time to time and I'm quite certain that we are not the only ones still doing so.
I enjoyed the 15yr anniversary vid. Love the story about the table this is why I love your channel, its humbling its nostalgic etc. I'm 39 and I can relate to the emotional connection we have with video games.
Great story Brother. I grew up starting with the NES in the 80’s and we all (brothers, cousins) sat on the floor to play. I haven’t really thought about that until your video today. Thanks for bringing me back to a simpler time man. That coffee table must have a lot of great memories!
Wow, Johnny had no idea you were literally on your knees doing the show this whole time! You do you man! Here's to another awesome 15 years!
I've been watching Johnny for over 10 years (I am 34 now) and I knew that he was sitting on the floor, but him sitting on the floor is something I have never put any thought into because I just accepted it. I used to sit on the floor to play games and still do sometimes. Great video
My friends and I always sat on the floor while playing games, back in the day, too. Always just made sense, given cable lengths and everything. That's awesome that the table has so much personal history to it!
Mind blown 🤯 I always thought you were sitting at a desk. I'll never watch a new game stuff episode in the same way. In my head, all that cool new game stuff, was sitting in an open drawer. Turns out it's probably just piled up on the carpet!
...wait you've been sitting on the floor this entire time? I didn't even realize! Lol
One thing I love about your channel is how much of a community the viewers are. I recognize names in the comments almost every week. And even though I've seen like every video you've put on KZread, somehow I missed you mentioning you were on the floor and I never even thought about it. Then when you stood up I was kinda blown away. Such a small deal I never realized I didn't think about haha. I love hearing stories of your younger years. Specially about gaming.
You are so good at your videos and channel even a sitting on the floor is wonderful. Been watching you along time now and enjoy every Sunday to see your next video. God Bless to you and family! Keep on gaming!
Love this so much! Make sure to look after that coffee table!! :D
Dude! I'm watching your show for 10 years now and didn't know this. Love the Japanese culture as well and I think sitting and even sleeping on the floor has so many benefits.
I'm impressed how much your wife looks like your mom. Wow!! She's not a twin but they have very similar features, especially the smile.
You gotta sit on the floor to play Nintendo in the old days, that's it right there. Those who grew up with console gaming back in the late 80/early 90s got you John. Then that table packs a lot of nostalgia and wholesomeness. Such a fond episode, emotion driven for sure.
I don't know that anyone has ever been truer to their nature. In a good way. Great episode.
I remember sitting on the floor playing games with my friends as well. Both at home and at friends houses. It was how things was until I was like a teen when cables got longer.
I found your channel a couple years ago and I love your reviews, your taste in games is very similar to mine, so when I see games coming out or want to check out an older game, I always come by and check your videos for reviews. Thanks for being awesome Johnny
This is such an awesome discussion! I graduated to sitting on a couch when I grew up. That being said - if Im ever struggling or really into the game, I switch to the floor. I have cushions specifically for these crucial, life changing moments.
Never realize you were on the floor this whole time 😂 I've been watching for years lol
I've always loved that you sat on the floor. I always thought it was supposed to be a call back to the old nintendo days of gathering around the TV on the floor with all your friends. On a side note, my Japanese wife, who's been in Canada for 12 years, still sits on the floor. Same with all of her Japanese friends. It's a hard habit to break. lol.
Mind blown🤣 as many others have said I've been watching for years and had no idea you were that low to the ground! Love the channel Johnny, this was a really endearing vid😁✌️ *you look amazing for being almost 50, I'm only a few months away from the big 40 and i hope i can maintain my youth as well as you have haha
That's incredible!!! I've been watching your show for yrs (probably at least 5) & the thought never crossed my mind that you're sitting on the floor. You make it look like you're in a chair very well. Glad you're doing what makes you a "HAPPY" Console Gamer! Pun totally intended! ❤
What a time to be alive when sitting on the floor is deep lore once said in one of the videos or something some 10 years ago.
I never knew after watching many episodes that you were sitting on the floor. 🤣
I had no idea!! 🤯 The nostalgic home videos in this video honestly got me emotional! Who knew an episode about a coffee table could get me choked up! Haha. Seriously great episode. It's the video i never knew i needed.
Aw man, I still remember the jelly-legs from that day we recorded together! What a great time! :D
Floor Sitters Unite!
I'd love to ask how you avoid knee pain when you sit on the floor? I sit on the floor when I play my PS4 and after a while, my left knee usually starts to become slightly painful.
I love that you did an episode about this. I've been watching since I discovered you via your "40yr old gamer" video. I'm almost there myself. I'd love to see you cover, "The Aging Gamer." I know my joints aren't what they used to be, and probably my reflexes as a result. I'm curious what other gamers on the back 9 are experiencing after a life time of gaming. I do find my patience is much greater for games I didn't have the patience for in my youth.
This was a great episode - like most people, I too didn't realise this revelation about you! Makes sense now looking at the scale of your Master Sword and Hylian Shield in the corner. I noticed I tend to sit cross legged on the couch/sofa when I'm really focusing on a game and totally immersed in it!
I legit never realized he was on the floor 🤣
The fact Kim sat on the floor pregnant still surprised me 😂
I’ve been subscribed to you forever, and it’s still a mind f*ck when you stand up, that’s crazy.
😂 I didn’t even realize you were sitting all these years my mind has been blown. But gaming and sitting on the floor dose feel right growing up the TV was always far from the coach and because controllers were plugged in to the console you had no choice but to sit on the floor in front of the TV. Great video really enjoyed.
Wow I never noticed you on the floor 😂
Kool trivia, but nobody ever knew you sat on the floor.
I can't believe I never noticed you were sitting down. It really is the perfect setup for a retro videogame show though. It's so cool that you've been able to keep that table all of these years. It looks like it's still in great shape too. I also have some pieces of furniture from the 90s that I still use and cherish.
This is why I connect with this channel so well I myself am a 50 year old gamer and grew up playing games on a pillow sitting on the floor in front of a crt tv playing
Watching Johnny is comforting .
I played the nes almost exclusively on the floor growing up. Every now and then I still do. Sitting down and looking up at the tv is something that will always take me back to my earliest gaming memories. That and my feet falling asleep from sitting on them for hours on end. 😆
I've been a fan of this channel since 2008, so I always knew you were sitting on the floor, lol. The title caption though, is the most interesting premise for a video ever. Had me intrigued just to find out why.
sitting on the floor makes sooo much sense to me - I used to it all the time (reading, drawing, playing games....) and my mom would scold me and tell me to use a chair and a table.
I think the comfort level has always shown through from the short table! Even your old videos have a certain aspect of presentation. The floor has such a personable quality, your videos always give off a vibe of talking with an old friend.
@HappyConsoleGamer I’ve been a fan a long time and stopped what I was doing to come comment. I’m 37, my bro is 42, we grew up gaming in the 80-90s WHILE SITTING ON THE FLOOR. keep doing what you do man! I love seeing someone be themselves as hard as possible and not apologize for it! Love you take care man!
It’s a pleasure watching your shows, your stories are heartwarming and I love your kindness and purity. Thanks for being!😊
Sad to say, I just found this channel last year, but really love to watch you and your wife. Great videos. Thanks.
Similar upbringing as I used to "Squat-Sit" by using my knees as armrests while playing games in front of our old flood model TV.
