Goal setting, especially for New Year's Resolutions, is something many of us are doing this time of year. Whether it's life goals like weight loss, improved mental health, reducing stress, traveling more, or spending time with family - setting the right goals is important. However, many of us set goals the wrong way, because we focus on milestones instead of actions. When it comes to scuba diving goals, this happens as well. In this video, you'll learn how to actually achieve your goals by focusing on actions instead of milestones, and how scuba diving can lead to you accomplishing your life goals as well. If you want to learn something new this year, spend more time with family, travel, and more - take the action-based goal steps in this video when doing your goal planning this year.

👍😎🇵🇭🤿! Scuba diving and always enjoying to improve skills is the most relaxing goal I can imagine! Each and every dive brings a new and unique feeling for me and where I am and how far I go! But we must respect others who are not so comfortable in and under the water along with the costs associated with diving such as personal equipment, renting costs and the expense of the trip. I know friends that get so much pleasure and joy of a long bicycling journey and enjoy hearing about their adventures! I have found that in scuba diving and constantly developing skills and specific gear requirements to achieve new skills! Scuba diving has also dramatically improved my mental wellbeing as no matter how healthy we think we are there is an incredible experience somewhere in something all of us can benefit from!👍😎

My goals are simple - complete side mount certification, and practice side mount as much as I can. To dive to the M2 aircraft submarine wreck. And restart running routine.

Great goals!!! I really love diving side mount. Where is the M2 aircraft sub?

This makes a lot of sense! A lot of my goals right now are just more action based like heading to the gym and the pool once a week. Try to make each pool session the length of a dive like an hour or so to train dive fitness 😅 But if time or weather (as it’s monsoon season in Singapore) is not ideal, then just being kinder to yourself showing up for that session will do 😊 Side note, I did practice back kicking in the pool the last session and it blew my mind that one can reverse underwater. Looking forward to using it on the next dive and perhaps use your tip on dedicating each dive for an aspect of diving improvement!

Great video. I travel to Maui every Jan or Feb. and this down time I reevaluate my year. I set new priorities with goals. This year my dive goal was to get my AOW certification. Now that I achieved that goal I want to improve buoyancy, more efficient air consumption and frog kicking. When I return home, I want to practice more. I have a shallow pool 4ft. Is it appropriate to practice solo in the pool? I take rules seriously, and know that I should never dive alone.

Hey Eric, great goals and I’m happy to say I’ll have videos over the next 4-6 weeks on kicking techniques (like frog kicking) and buoyancy! Woo! Practicing in a pool solo is fairly safe, especially if you can stand. Remember that you can still have issues if you take a breath at 4 feet then hold it and stand though. Lung over expansion can happen in shallow water. It’s great if you can practice with someone, but you can use your best judgement. I can’t say I recommend diving solo without solo training, but I also think you would likely be fine. I’ve done this myself, but I make that choice and know the risk associated. Personally I think the risk is quite low.
