Good review. I have all six IRIX cine lenses available at this time (with the 150mm Macro but not the Tele version). I've shot three short films with them so far and really like the look. The materials are great quality but the build can be inconsistent, as you discovered. I never had to return one, but the tension in the focus and iris rings are inconsistent between lenses. New purchasers should check each lens over carefully and make sure they are satisfied. On full-frame sensors, there's noticeable vignetting when wide open and softness in the corners (not necessarily a bad thing, depending on the look you want). The vignetting disappears and the sharpness improves dramatically when stopped down by 1 - 1.5 stops. On the faster lenses, I typically shoot at around T2.8 anyway, and I'm very pleased. The plastic lens caps are crap, so I replaced mine with the newer kind. The only downside is that the lens hoods supplied with some of the lenses won't fit in the storage position with the cap attached. No big deal if you're using a matte box. The magnetic filter system is also convenient. I'm looking forward to the 65mm lens that has been announced. One thing that attracted me to IRIX in the first place was the atypical focal length choices. Coming from a stills background, I already have an assortment of fast primes in "normal" focal lengths and it's tough for me to justify buying a lens in the same focal length.

I ditched mine because the 200 degree focus throw is just too short for me.

Interesting, I feel it’s quite smooth and long based on my previous experience with photography lenses.

@@Ernesto_media Yeah I figured 200 degrees would be fine when I bought them. I miss focus less using the Meikes that are 270 degrees though. I always pull focus from the barrel though. If you have an AC pulling focus it wouldn't matter. I like the Meike look more overall but they aren't as fast T2.1 vs T1.5 for IRIX. I bought a Canon CN-E 24mm T1.5. It's nice and fast with a 300 degree focus throw. My issue with it is that the lens is too large. There's really no perfect option.

Exactly, using the focus motor handle from Tilta I see how 200 degree may not be enough. I ended up pulling manually most of the time in a recent shoot.

@@Ernesto_media I am not sure about the Tilta handle but using a Nucleas M, you actually can change the focus throw and make it longer. For pulling by hand I prefer 270-300 degrees over 200 though. What I experienced with the IRIX over the Meike is the shorter focus throw, combined with stiffer rings, and overall larger lens diameter made it harder to pull vs the Meikes.

This is the original case of the IRIX cine set, you can find it on their website. Unless you are looking to purchase the entire set I wouldn’t recommend buying it because it’s bulky and you can’t store longer lenses in it like a 70-200 or the 24-105 rf. Aside of that, it’s got a great quality and protects the lenses very well. I also use the front pocket to store my nd 4:5 filters.
