Louise, this video couldn't have come at a better time. I've been a doctor for 20 years and last month finally admitted to myself that I'm not half and want a creative career. It's terrifying at the age of 45 to consider giving up everything and starting again but also exciting. Your story gives me hope so thank you.

I’m 55 years old and it’s the first time that I feel that I can do what I truly love: paint, taking care of my cats and chickens and work in my garden. And I really love to watch you paint. Most of the time we don’t love the sound of our voice but I have to say that I find the sound of your voice very relaxing and it helps me focussing on my painting when I follow your Skillshare’s class. never too late even if you have to wait until you retire. I got sick and retired at 50, was lucky enough to get a disability pension and then my life actually really began. Did I have lots of money? NO! Did I have a mortgage? Yes! I lived in a small country town in Western Australia, I hated it. It took us 6 years to sell our house.. because if I didn't like it why would anyone else want to live there??? Then we did sell our house..no mortgage. Yey!! We bought a nice 2nd hand car - which we couldn't afford before we sold. Then moved to a lovely town where we couldn't afford to buy but did get a rental which takes 1 whole pension...but I live where I cant afford and we live simply and I paint, I read and paint some more.. I don't even have my beloved garden any more (I have lots of pots) and we cant have pets but I can paint. Im now 70 and life has begun..Never say never!! Its not necessarily about everything you have its about friends, family, each other and what you can do right now. Nobody will thank you when you are dead for leaving them a half paid for house in an area they dont want to live in. I think kids today make more than we ever did and really its up to them to make their own lives and their own mistakes, YOU have to live yours. Good luck,

Hi Louise - thank you for sharing your story. We started our career change at the age of 40! We worked hard to shed the shackles of the 9-5 ( more like 8 - 7 in reality! ) The goal was the same as yours. To enjoy a creative life. 23 years on and we are still enjoying the journey. Still learning, teaching and painting. Have a great week 😃😃😃😃

I can't find whatever it is about your voice that you don't like, I've listened with a hat on, standing near to my PC, sitting at a distance, from another room and even with a musical accompaniment, I stood over here and over there, but all I seem to hear is the inspiration to aspire....

As an artist myself and a non-completely happy English teacher in my late twenties, I find this talk like some kind of universe-driven message... and every cell in my body tells me to embrace it.

Hello Louise! You have inspired me a lot. I feel like my dream of becoming a professional artist is even closer to me. I am 42 years old and I think that I now have the opportunity to get to my dream job, although there is not enough time with three children. Thanks for your lessons. I never thought that watercolor would excite me so much; it always seemed to me something unattainable. Previously, I was interested in interior design, painted toys with gouache, and studied graphic design. At school everyone thought that I would go to study as an artist, but I went to study as an economist. I saw your lessons on KZread. Drawing pictures with my hands is exactly what I need. I hope that everything will work out for me.

Hi Louise! I'm Lauren- I'm Head of English at a school in England and I've been teaching for seven years. I am tired of being Miss Austin and not Lauren anymore. I think, breathe, dream and live teaching, constantly working with never enough energy to live my life at the end of the school day. In July, I'm leaving and I'm pursuing art and writing in a very similar position to you! It was so cathartic to hear somebody else's perspective on taking this giant leap :)

Louise, loved this video, thank you for sharing your journey, and for your vulnerability in growing as an artist. About your voice: I am a retired professional classical artist/opera singer from Ontario Canada. I spent the last 33 years also teaching at University and College level, classical and music theater. I have a degree in vocal pedagogy and performance. Your voice is SO soothing, calming, relaxing, and very pretty and dainty to listen to. I find it meditative, and you are my favorite artist both on Patreon and youtube to follow. Voices can be annoying/grating when they have a lot of "twang" or nasality, or are too loud etc. Yours has none of these, it possesses a perfectly balanced tonal quality/timbre. Take it from the pro girl, it's a lovely lovely voice! AND know that many hate the sound of their recorded voice....it's a thing, lol (myself included). But you have a bit of "tonal dismorphia" lol, going on. Your voice is a sound I could listen to for hours, and I don't say that about many voices, having worked for over 33 years with thousands of students, and fellow artists. Your art work is gorgeous, I'm glad you found your way to a full time career in the art world. *I'm a truth speaker, and never compliment or BS anyone. Just so you know! hugs from Windsor ONtario

Oh no way, I have that book you co-authored, had no idea! Wow! This video is really inspiring… I’m 32 and absolutely miserable with my retail job (the people I work with are nice but the actual job is so repetitive and mundane and a lot of customers treat me like I’m something on the bottom of their shoe even though I do my best to be kind and polite and never pressure them to buy anything). I have a second job too in the medical field which I love but my heart has always been drawn to art. I think this was my sign to finally start my art business on the side and eventually quit retail.

Dear Louise, I love your work, and your voice is so calm and soothing. This video represents me from start to end. I've been a teacher for 38 years and finally decided to quit my job last month and use the free time to learn more and pratice painting watercolor. It's one of the best decisions I've ever made in my life. Since then I've been invited to illustrate a poem book and a children's book. I'm so excited about that. That's what I always wanted to do ❤

The content creators like you are prime examples of how one person can make a positive difference in the lives of so many. So many have been excited, thrilled and inspired by your teachings and your story! Thanks ever so much for sharing your journey. I have listened to some other artists stories on YT (e.g. Emily Olson and Michele Weber) and am cheering them on every step of the way. Making videos is something I have not tried, but it is very time consuming and labor intense. The average viewer likely has no idea how much time, effort, editing and love goes into each video. It takes hours of work and editing to produce even a short, quality video. Arts and languages were my first choice for a career, but like so many, I had to choose where I could make a living. So I was a doctor for thirty years! And, realistically, not many have your talent. Your voice is so pleasant and soothing, and your diction is excellent. Your delivery is a desirable speed, as many speak too quickly in an attempt to convey more information. Not to mention you are very attractive with excellent posture! 🥰
