I've always felt that a good dj is one that can play using almost anything and still deliver a dope set. I feel modern djs are too reliant on modern technology and not the exciting challenge of creating a beautiful set regardless of what you use.

Hi chief - I understand that point it’s a really fair opinion. I’ve def fallen into the trap of being a modern DJ, far cry from just turning up with my records. The one thing I love about where the tech has gone is I love live remixing/ creating an edit of a track. Not saying you couldn’t still learn do that regardless of tech, but you definitely become more dependent on the tech for sure as the path of least resistance. Def with you on the main aim should be creating a beautiful set regardless ❤️

@@ebow707 Yes I agree with you on this. Tech is really good and exciting for sure. I also love where things are going with tech. I just feel we can also maintain the authentic feel of live mixing with almost any hardware. I've seen an increasing number of djs who refuse to play if certain tech isn't there. They forget that almost 100% of the audience know nothing about the tech how it works. They just wanna have a good time. I do feel you on your point. Big up brother. ⚡👊🏾⚡

Hey there, Great Video, I am myself beginning in the industry (tho still on a Pioneer DDJ-RB) and this Video really helps in deciding whether to go the Denon or Pioneer route for the next upgrade...(Probably is going to be a DDJ-1000 or DDJ-FLX10) One recommendation for future videos: try putting some kind of limiter and/or compressor on your lav-mic to reduce the occurring clipping. (If the audio is already clipped at the recorder/camera/preamp, then try reducing that pre-amplification-level and add a compressor on the channel in post-production to get the volume you want) If you have any questions about this, feel free to ask... I'm already stoked to see your future videos on discovering the CDJ World. Have fun and keep pushing ! 🔥🔥🔥

Hi mate - thanks for the comment. I came from 1210s and before that belt drive Gemini PT2000 so only learned on vinyl. Two and a half years ago I changed to digital and a started a new journey so I understand your point and I think it’s important to have that foundation even if you are starting to learn today on digital only. Engine itself is not limiting - the choice is more of a comfort factor, and maybe I’m being a big baby about it 😂 I want to know that what I have practiced across the three decks and the MPC, is the same as in the club. There may be a point in the fact that I’m not as versatile as other DJs, so increasing familiarity with the tech made more sense for me, but get it’s drastic and there were other options.

The challenge is in the grand scheme of things I am a no one, trying to get some gigs, which is tough enough as it is to try and stand out from the crowd. I fought the good fight years ago on a different scale when everyone was playing FIFA and we few chose PES. Similar thing - some things may be better than others but swimming against the current when almost everyone else is doing the other thing makes it tough. In that case I stuck to my guns because it didn’t matter - for this though, for any change to matter it needs to come from the top down, ie promoters, venues, big DJs. Having said all that…. yep I definitely feel like a sell out still 😂

I mixed with my pioneer djm 600 for years paired with 1210’s and loved it. Never cared for cd’j or any digital. I still love and will always love vinyl Going to shop to buy Getting in post Opening for first time Placing that special vinyl on deck Artwork etc But I’ve unfortunately had a long break from dj’ing and now I’m looking to get back into it and I decided to go digital. I’m still keeping my turntables but as I really can’t play loud music, I’ve opted to buy the Denon sc live 4 standalone controller with built in speakers (don’t laugh) but they may be quiet enough for me to get back to the thing I love. I don’t need laptop, extra speakers and I can even use a power bank and mix in my garden kitchen or even go over the park. I almost bought pioneer standalone controller or cd’j 3000 but as I can’t play loud music and the Amazon music unlimited really appeals to me and sc live 4 only cost me £900 Cd’j are £2000 plus each Denon prime 4 plus is £2000 Pioneer standalone from £1500- around £2,800 Considering I can’t play loud, I think I made right choice. I just stumbled across these 2 incredible U.K. garage compilation cds on Amazon and they have so many songs from my teens and both cds have 60 odd tracks. Can’t wait to mix em. Oh and I hope you enjoy your pioneer setup. If you was getting rid and had the Denon lc6000? The player without the screen, I would have offered to buy them from you. If anyone sees this, is it worth buying the Denon LC6000 to go with Denon sc live 4? I understand they don’t have all the bells like the bigger brother with screen but I have amazon streaming with sc live 4 so I think it may be decent enough. I don’t really need them but I do like making my setup nicer and they may come in handy.

I understand your thinking. I had to convert denon to pioneer to play on cdj 3000s a few weeks ago. I borrowed a cdj 3000 for a few days to run through its paces. Here’s my thought. The only thing on the cdj 3000 that is better is the platter. Everything else is out of date. The processing power can’t keep up with the software. The setup functions don’t make sense compared to some of the options in recordbox and you are extremely limited in terms of performance features compared to the denons. The performance features wouldnt be handled by the current processing power if they were added and in my opinion the device is outdated. There is latency when selecting cues and loops. This was on the most current firmware. I hope they give you what you are looking for. I would personally not make that change and just convert denon data to recordbox when you need to. If you are mostly using the players for simply playing music… then it’s fine. But for performance features.. the denons are light years ahead.

For the money they are asking, Pioneer just doesn’t make sense and I’m not about to drop a used car price for gear that’s inferior to a 800 dolar console. My strategy has always been to just ask what kind of space they have in the booth and decide if it’s worth it to bring my s4 mk3 + x1 mk2 combo. If it’s a short set with limited space, I’ll stick to my x1 with CDJs in HID, if the space allows and/or is a longer set, it’s my full rig. I also have a Rekordboxed SD card for backups and impromptu play, but everytime i play with them i get a reminder of how tragic the looping system is and how idiotic they behave in some ways

@@ebow707 But again, Denon works better with Engine than it does rerkordbox. How I play at home is with my CDJs linked to my home network and rekordbox running in Export Mode on my desktop, having to export to USB when I'm doing stuff at home is a dealbreaker for me. I know you can import your rekordbox library into Engine and I know there's third party tools available, but I basically want to live and die in one app.

Hi Sara - yes you absolutely can on both Denon and Pioneer. There’s a third type of loop you can set up on Denon which is what I meant which behaves like an active loop but you engage it yourself once you enter the loop zone. I have got used to not having it now. Thanks for watching and commenting :)

When the music is boring as nowadays , is more important creating loops .

Hi chief. I am unfortunately at this moment just a man on KZread with a small channel doing what I love. I hope to be big enough one day that companies pay me to do what I do. Until then, it’s just me, myself and I.

Denon’s are far more superior than Pioneer. Don’t care what the clubs have… don’t mind bringing mine.5:29 Someone can easily ask the same in reverse. Using CDJs doesn’t make you any more of a DJ than walking into a McDonalds makes you a Big Mac.

Pioneer DJ is dead bro. They're not even made by Pioneer any more. They haven't put out anything "pioneering" since 2014, since then they have been playing catchup with other brands. Now it's just a subscription based bullshit box. Can't even turn the thing on without being forced to sign up for a trial.

Hey - yeah that’s a fair statement and I only just heard about being forced to sign up for a trial last weekend on another KZreadr’s video, which doesn’t sound particularly legal. I’m not sure why but I haven’t had to since I had them but I’m not going to complain as it would def annoy me.

Fair comment. Sharing with people was less about justification and more about sharing my experience….like other people do every day on KZread. What’s wrong with sharing 😂
