I got back into music production in 2020. Since then I made several investments that has cost me thousands. Windows laptop, mpc one, audio interface, monitors, ect. I hesitated on going iOS because my first experience with iOS Production was IMachine on a iPad mini 2 in 2015. Needless to say I didn’t like it. Fast forward to 2021. I purchased a m1 Mac book pro which I enjoyed more then my windows laptop and also step into the maschine world with my last big purchase of the plus. This year in April my wife bought me an IPad Pro for my Bday and I fell in love! BM3 was my first purchase in the App Store. It blew my mind how easy it was for me to create what I have been doing already with my mpc and maschine. Looking back at my journey I kind of wish I would have just started with the iPad . I would have saved thousands! However my journey is my journey and I believe it has helped me appreciate iOS Production even more. People sleep on what they don’t know and will only try something when the majority is doing so. Keep up the good work my guy! Your experience and input in iOS Production is much needed!

Man the Ipad is defiantly where its at bro.. there is enough pro apps on it to basically do everything you can do on a desktop.. its really is awesome. It still blows my mind that I have all of Fabfilters desktop plugins on my Ipad!! And like you said its WAAAY cheaper. I could go on and on 😆 Ipad all the way!

Thanks for this video you are spot on. I got back in producing last year and the iPad Pro is so easy to jump into when I have an idea and I don’t need to go sit at my desk. The price point was easy and tbh touch screen for me is just so easier than sitting at my computer and fighting with a mouse. I had a MacBook I use but I I find my work flow is faster creating on my iPad Pro.

It’s all those things. Portability, cheap apps (I have to stop buying apps 😑), and having the pads/keys in BM3. I just reallly need an update 😢.

iPad from base to pro is amazing for music production. I tend to do final mixes and mastering on Mac, but the music is mostly created on iPhone/iPad for me. I love Auxy Studio & GarageBand! Novation Launchpad is what I started with. Now i'm getting into Korg Gadget. I love it.

I’ve been producing on laptop for the past few years. I’ve also been purchasing apps on the iPad to produce as well. Even tho I still produce mainly on my laptop, there’s something about the iPad that just draws me back to it. And those reasons are: 1- ease of use 2- portability 3- i can make music in my bed literally before going to sleep 4- if I have an idea I can just unlock the screen and start working rather than having to turn on the laptop and waiting more 5- having a 9 to 5 makes it difficult sometimes to produce in a home studio cuz of time. With the iPad I can take it with me and lay down dome ideas on lunch time or on a free time and simply continue later. Also just like you said. it doesn’t hurt as much to spend $9.99 on an app and realize that you won’t use it compared to purchasing a $200 dollar synth to end up using more your stock plugins and not even realize it. What I really wanna do, and I’d love to chat with you later if possible, is to figure out good gear to work alongside my iPad just to officiallize things more.

If you're reading this & thinking about getting the Akai Mpk249 Midi keyboard controller for beatmaker 3, make sure you get the Apple USB-C to digital AV. Also get the Upbright 6V AC Adapter to power the keyboard separately. If you don't do the above mentioned, you will be sorry you didn't.

I work from home in the same space that I make music in. After 10hrs in the room for work, I don't feel like I want to stay in it and make music. So since the pandemic started, my music making dropped off because being in the same room all the time is a drag. So I bought an Akai Force to make music around the house, but after many years of using Logic and having that linear flexibility, I just didn't connect with the force. So I sold it and am now debating moving to an iPad pro for music. My wife does amazing work on her iPad pro for music, video editing, graphics, illustrations and controlling logic on her laptop. So I feel like it is a good move. She says that the limitations on the laptop help her focus on composition first. She has less choices for sounds and instruments so she focuses on the structure, melody and mood. Then she can export it to Logic and replace sounds if she wants to. While I find I get bogged down a lot in all the options we have in Logic. So that immediacy is really attractive to me. The cost of the ipad seems insane now with our yen devaluation, but more and more I think it will free me to do music anywhere for scratch padding and integrates with Logic for finalizing and taking it to release level. But also the other tools on an iPad pro seem to be powerful too for quick video edits, photo edits and illustrations. So for an all round creator, it seems like a good approach. And I think more music tools will come soon.

I love working on the ipad and iphone because... I can. 🤷🏾‍♂ It's just fun to know I can do powerful things on these tiny devices. I look at my new mpc and wonder why. I could make a beat on my mobile device with or without the controller of my choice. And as the host said, I like getting inexpensive plugins. I can always export my sessions to the desktop if need be.

Thanks for your tutorials, I was wondering if you have done a tempo change on a sequence? For instance I recorded a beat in beat maker 3 @90 BPM and I also created a intro that is 60 BPM. Is there a way to have my intro and beat on the same sequence, because I can’t seem to figure out how to use 2 different tempos on the same sequence🤷🏽‍♂️

Have you fucked with Drambo at all? I’ve wasted a fair bit of money on host apps I don’t use, but Drambo just stuck with me. It’s got a workflow like an elektron box, but it’s also a modular synth/effect/midi processor. The great thing about it is that it can fit into anyone’s workflow because it’s also an AUV3 so instead of using it as a host you could load it into beatmaker 3 and go wild.

First of all, the workflow speed of an iPad will never compare to a desktop. Never. I click one button in pro tools, and all the plugin windows for the selected track pop up. Just one example of so many. Secondly, i just can’t imagine not having (at least) a dual monitor experience. I need a mix window and edit window in front of me at the same time. Ideally a third monitor for plugins. third of all, the plug-ins just don’t stack up on iPad. Not even close. The iPad isn’t powerful enough to run 60+ tracks with multiple plugins on each one. Even if you were, the plug-ins themselves are child’s play when compared to UAD, waves, etc. The most beloved plugins are memory and CPU intensive for good reason. Great sound requires processing power. This will all get solved when external processing solutions become available to iPad (aka UAD, Pro Tools HD, etc) but until then the plugins don’t compare. Even still, why would I choose to stare at a tiny little screen? If you want to make beats while on a plane then go for it. I’d much rather dedicate a time and place (my studio) for making music, where all the tools I need are at my finger tips. I can write lyrics on a plane or study music theory. When I go to record it, it will be distraction free in my studio. The whole idea of making music “on the go” is a little ridiculous to me. To each their own though. My goal is maximize efficiency so I can keep the creative process moving. The idea of one tiny little screen makes me want to pull my hair out.

Ok. Stay in your box. These are just tools. Creativity can hit at any moment and the ability to have something portable is ideal. So your saying the only place your creative is in the studio? Thats such a limited mindset but to each his own.

@@abelanc1090 I guess it just spends on what your goals are. If you’re looking for a scratch pad to get an idea down then sure. Yes they are just tools. Not having the most efficient tool for the job is not the way I work, and I was sharing my perspective. “Stay in your box”? What does that even mean? I feel like I made it pretty clear that I was sharing my perspective… Are you saying that perspective shouldn’t be shared? Sure I spoke with a bit of passion around it, and It’s because I’m passionate about music production.
