Why I'm Saying Goodbye to My Lotus Emira: Adventure Recap & Next Moves 🚗💨

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Get ready for a bittersweet journey as I share the news that I'm parting ways with my beloved Lotus Emira. It's been an incredible ride, and in this video, I'll sum up my adventures, discuss some of the challenges I've encountered, and reveal why I've made the difficult decision to bid farewell to the Lotus.
Our journey with the Emira started with a thrilling run-in period, during which I took it to Wales via the breathtaking Cheddar Gorge. The pinnacle of this road trip was undoubtedly the exhilarating drive along the Black Mountain road.
Once the car had been driven and properly run-in, I set my sights on my very first European road trip through the stunning landscapes of Spain. Starting from Santander, I traversed through the Picos De Europa into Portugal. From there, I journeyed south to the vibrant city of Seville and the picturesque Southern Coast near Malaga.
The adventure continued as I drove east, crossing the captivating Tabernas Desert en route to the awe-inspiring Alto De Velefique, and finally arriving in Valencia. An overnight ferry then transported me to the beautiful Balearic island of Mallorca before a boat ride returned us to Barcelona.
After these incredible road trips, I made a pit stop at Spa Francorchamps, the legendary home of the Belgian F1 Grand Prix. The experience was nothing short of breathtaking.
For my grand farewell, I took the Lotus Emira to Scotland to explore my own variation of the North Coast 500 (NC500). It was the perfect send-off, featuring unforgettable moments at Applecross Pass, Kylesku Bridge, and the awe-inspiring Cairngorms.
And now, as we reach the end of this chapter, I'll provide a sneak preview of the car that's next in line to join my sports car adventures. It's a petrol-powered beauty with two seats, and I can't wait to share more about it!
Thank you for joining me on this incredible journey with the Lotus Emira. Stay tuned for more adventures to come, and don't forget to subscribe to catch all the exciting updates in my automotive world.
Up the Tours!

    5:00 Just an observation, as someone who used to race on track: I noticed you were sitting upright with your back off the seat rest. That suggests your everyday driving position is wrong for hustling the car. By having the seat in that position you are using your biceps and shoulder muscles to hold yourself upright. These are exactly the muscle groups which need to be free for fine control of the wheel. If you notice, Racing drivers sit quite close to the wheel, to the point of having a 90 degree angle at the elbow - the optimum angle for freeing the biceps and shoulders for precise wheel control.

    i have a c8 and i was thinking of getting an emira. what are your thoughts on that?

  • @switchlanez

    @switchlanez

    7 ай бұрын

    @ZackVuldin What tipped me to C8 is availability/affordability/faster shipping of replacement parts, 1st year gremlins mostly sorted, and dealership network. C8 is cheaper in US vs UK, Emira is cheaper in UK vs US so C8 wins in value only in US. I'll mostly be driving on average American roads (not as much in twisties) for which the C8 is tuned for whereas Emira suspension is tuned for average British roads which are very different. So I'll get more out of the C8 vs Emira in terms of engineering intent. C8 makes more sense if you're in America due to its pricing, the type of roads, and and ease/cost of maintenance. Its body lines don't flow as elegantly but it has more aggressive supercar road presence due to its wider proportions. Almost a wash, but slight edge to C8 if you're in America. But Emira makes sense if you prioritize exclusivity (not being as ubiquitous as the C8 comes with its own set of pains I described earlier), handling feel, and manual transmission. I've had my C8 Z51 with mag-ride for 3 months. It feels more futuristic spaceship than old school analog. Mag-ride completely eliminates body roll. It's dartier than I expected and can be set much stiffer than I expected (I always drive in full soft). So concerns I had about handling are completely quelled. Some sound is processed and artificially pumped through the speakers. Some hate it but I find it satisfying and futuristic because it still sounds good plus consistent. People say it drives like a video game which I thought I'd hate but oddly like because I've been playing racing games since even before Gran Turismo (part 1) and games with the C8 the last few years before I got the real one. Longwinded way of saying you should consider what you grew up liking. C8 nails it for people like me in the millennial demographic.

    @@switchlanez gotcha!!! Thanks for the explanation man! I really didn’t think of it that way when you were comparing the UKvsUS differences. Isn’t the c8 straight up better in performance too?

  • @switchlanez

    @switchlanez

    7 ай бұрын

    @@ZackVuldin oh yeah you're right the C8's performance on paper does give you more bang for buck. But I saw it as kind of a wash because Emira loses some performance in exchange for a more analog, lighter weight and manual transmission experience.

    Got my deposit back, been waiting two years while they raised the price. Test drove it, not impressed as an owner of 981 boxster, the interior of emira feels cheap, plastic, too much of a whining noise coming from the engine, shifter is not that great as people describe. For 75K might be worse it, for 110 hell no. I will get a manual supra instead if I can find it in US, if not a manual GR86/BRZ to have fun in the canyons.

    I respect your opinion, but.....The 981 Boxster is not even close to the Emira, neither in performance nor in quality.. if you say Cayman GT4 the OK, but hey... Feels cheap, compared to what exactly, but you go for a GR86/BRZ or a Supra? What do you think they will feel like?? I understand, that you had to wait two years, but that is quite a paradox, you are saying... Btw. don´t buy a car with a compressor if you don´t like the whining.
